Another whack job, this time in New Hampshire, at a country club wedding. A young man walked in, yelled "Free Palestine" and opened up with a gun. Shooter is in custody. Initial reports are that the bride was shot and killed.

Good thing you're only teaching math, and not current events 👀

Wayne and I have , no doubt, brushed shoulders without knowing it. I was at B-dubs and Knoxville in 98. Was also hanging from the crossbar after the Alabama game. Trust that I was able to get up there on my own, and I didn’t need a human step stool.
What? Wait a sec... you're that tall guy whose *** I kicked and then stole his girl. My bad dude... chalk it up to being young and immature. How ya been?

Our permanent opponents- SC, FL, TN (Not sure the rhyme or reason)
Will the Reds break our heart?
I have little passion for anything these days, not sure I'd attend the Pope's funeral, Mark or Leo. So, to see those folks attend some politico's memorial, it makes me question things..

Who is Ashley in relation to GYERO and the Wodie Crew? Today I noticed we have 10 mutual friends from here. Her son has had class with my daughter this year and one other so she’s at least acquaintances with my wife, they may even text occasionally.

Ashley N R? If so, friends with B$. Been around the crew since Aughts. She's great.

Pretty sure Legal Beagle was the dude who "stole my girl." I guess it's possible you kicked my *** in those days, but not probable. ;) I was in a fight about every other weekend. Sometimes you win; sometimes you don't.

My buddies and I got into an altercation walking around Knoxville at about 9 a.m. the day of that '98 game. Once the dust settled, we shook hands and ended up going over to one of those dude's apartments to drink for the next couple of hours. Simpler times.

Yep, didn't know if she was a lurker, friend of the program, family member, or what. It's always surprising how quickly Lexington shrinks in terms of knowing the same people once you have kids and get involved in sports.

I'm going to qualify this by saying I don't think the FCC and Trump should be going after Jimmy Kimmel or anybody else because of their political views.

Lastly, "Jimmy Kimmel Live" averaged nearly 1.6 million viewers in 2025. Basically 1 in 220 people watch it. This is not going to have the effect people think it will.

They didn't go after anyone for their political views. Kimmel blatantly lied and essentially accused half of the country as the reason for the assassination.

Given Kimmel was bleeding viewers...1.1M in September, and was 3rd behind Colbert and Fallon in late night network ratings, he signed his own pink slip with his gaffe.

  • I like the Reds because a) a lot of you guys like the Reds and b) they're the local team and c) my Braves are out of it. But I definitely love seeing the Mets blow it more than I like the Reds going on a nice Wild Card run. All that said, please Reds, pull this out.
  • Speaking of playoff collapses / late season runs. The American League central is getting VERY interesting. Detroit is fading almost as bad as the Mets are.
  • Hitting 60 HRs is a special thing. Never felt great about Maris having 61 and the record given that he wasn't an all-timer of a player. McGuire, Sosa and Bonds were cheatin' bastards, but they were stud players. Was glad to see a prolific guy like Judge hit 62 and owning the American League record. Which brings me to the Big Dumper. How can this goofball potentially be a 60 HR guy?
  • I used to be a baseball purist. But not any more. I love the ghost runner in extra innings. So much so that I'd love to see them pilot a game or two where you get a ghost runner every inning. It would be really good for little league. More kids on base. More action.
  • Some other novel ideas across baseball:
    • ELIMINATE THE INFIELD FLY: Runner on 1st and 2nd with no outs. If a dude hits a sharp ground ball to the third baseman they can turn a triple play. So why the f should the defense be punished if the offense hits a high pop fly to an infielder. Turn two if you can pull off dropping the fly intentionally.
    • ELIMINATE INTENTIONAL WALKS: My general rule in sports is that a team shouldn't benefit from being pussies. So eliminate the intentional walk. "But Wayne", you might ask, "couldn't the pitcher just throw four pitches way out of the strike zone?" Glad you asked. The new rule is this. The batter can turn down a walk if he has less than two strikes. That ensures a pitcher has to at least try to throw him a couple strikes. And to make it where the pitcher can't just try to miss off the plate until the batter swings, if it's a 5-0 count the batter can elect to go to second, a 6-0 count he can go to third, and the ultimate, a 7-0 count he gets to go all the way to home. This is for college level and above. Barry Bonds would have hit 100+ HRs in a season with this rule.
    • DOUBLE HOOK (adjusted): They're testing a rule that says if you pull your SP before 5 innings you lose your DH. I would make the rule that you get to keep your DH until you move to the third pitcher, regardless of when that is.
    • EXTRA CATCHER AT BACKSTOP (Little League Only): My kids in 9-year old kid pitch. They throw wild pitches every other pitch. Put a 2nd catcher position in where the kid stands by the backstop and fields the past balls. At best it speeds up the game so that the catcher doesn't have to walk back and get the ball every other pitch.

You have Pope in full older gentleman hobbling run, gleeful for practice to start yesterday.

Then you have Bruce Pearl retiring a day later with little time to do much of any search. Hope it’s not health related but if it’s not, pretty nasty timing for Auburn.

Which is perfectly fine btw

Interesting. I'd like to see how that works out. Not sure I'm interested in ever seeing pitchers hit again, but that would add an extra level of strategy and rid us of ridiculous "openers" in the process.

One more new rule: EIGHT PITCH PER AT-BAT MAX. If an at-bat goes to the 8th pitch or greater and it's 3-2 due to a bunch of foul balls the pitcher has to throw a four-seam fastball. If the batter fouls it off it's a strike out.

-Don't know if Dexter is a newbie or came from the old board with another name but I always enjoy the introduction to UK stories. First basketball game I remember is the Dream Game with Louisville in 1983. First football game I remember was the bowl game in 1983 against West Virginia. Didn't even know college football existed until then. Both started with losses.

First basketball game I ever attended was the Indiana game at Rupp in 1985 that Steve Alford was suspended for appearing on a poster or something. Was discussed in the Feinstein book "Season on the Brink" (the game, not my attendance). First football game I attended was 1995 at home against Cincinnati where Moe Williams set a rushing record while freezing to death atop Commonwealth watching it happen.

Was also at the game at Mizzou in 2018. Very un-UKlike as you said Dexter. Was also at the UK game with Indiana if you are talking about the one in Bloomington. It was the one moved to the end of the season because of 9/11. Antwan Randle-El put on a show and we looked like garbage. Was in the endzone where a few IU players jumped Glenn Pakulak after a punt and there was a brawl. IIRC, Pat Forde lambasted UK for being sore losers and never mentioned the Pakulak incident. It was told the flu had gone through the locker room but whatever.

-Stayed up many a night in college and early adulthood watching late night talk shows. Seems like political jabs were taken back then but appeared to be more at something stupid a politician would do and no outward bias one way or the other. Haven't paid attention to them in decades but it sounds like that isn't the case now. What a terrible decision to alienate so much potential viewership.

Grew up watching SNL and still haven't given it up but hate the turn it has taken also. Would still like to see it in person one time.

-I don't suppose there is a way to stop it but don't like how Wisconsin, Virginia and now Auburn have had coaches that more or less dictated their successor by leaving when they did.

-Our 3 permanent rivals has me disgruntled but not surprised. There was no way they were going to make Auburn play Alabama, Georgia and Florida so it's pretty obvious they switched Florida and Vandy with us. Thought we would get Missouri instead of South Carolina but I'm good either way with that one.

-I know the Reds are going to blow this. Still glad I have a reason to keep up with them though.

Alternatively you could just say that you get three pitchers max per game unless you go to extra innings.

F that one! Batters should be rewarded for working the count, not punished. If you foul it off with two strikes, you get another try. That's fair.

Please keep your weekend wiffle ball rules away from MLB.

The game I remember was at Commonwealth. It would have been a year before or after the one that you mention. That West Virginia bowl game might be the first UK FB game I ever watched as well. It was definitely one of the first 2 or 3.
The Dream Game was intense. That was a tough loss to a hated rival. If my memory serves me correct, didn’t Jim Master hit a baseline jumper to send it to OT? I also remember Charles Jones blocking a Dirk Minnifield layup that was a huge play in the game. UL always had some great athletes in that era and Jones was one of them.

I’m a long time lurker who just started posting after the switch.

Joey Meyer worked out great for continuation of DePaul’s dominant basketball legacy.

NYC kinda shuts down to a ghost town tomorrow (RoshShashanah - Yom Kippur) for two to three weeks for Jewish holidays… mystery as to when they actually end. Easier commute for us gentiles tho. Prophet.

Crispy evenings = Bourbon szn.

Baseball should stop tinkering with rules. Outside of the Pitch clock implementation which helped with the 4.5 hour Yankee / Red Sox root canal games (remembering the Nomar Garciaparra batting glove fidgeting after every pitch🤮)but the extra innings dude on second is an abomination.

The deer population needs to be culled. I have no landscaping under 6’ tall left in my yard.

There is a stately French Second Empire Victorian home in my town that’s about to be plowed. It has been in foreclosure and disrepair. Owner hung himself in it during Covid. I knew the guy… his cousin is Pink. I wanted to write her and tell her of the historic significance of the house for a stopgap contribution to his memory… Alas. No one with enough money or vision has stepped up to restore it. Across the street is Senator Jones mansion that I made sure was restored when I was chair of the planning board…. This one though, was and could be a beauty. Effing sad.

NJ has the worst controlled wildlife in the country. Needs to cull deer and bear.
