- Yeah, not buying the "at least we made it close." Took fluke shooting on both ends for that to happen. They got whatever they wanted all night. We don't pressure the ball, we let guys get comfortable, we let them run whatever they want. Layup or wide open 3 on about 90% of their possessions. Honestly unfathomable how bad we are at forcing turnovers with this squad.. was a huge issue last year too, but was hoping that was explainable by roster construction/injuries. Starting to get concerned that's just how Pope's defenses are going to play. Pretty hard to be an elite defense if you don't force turnovers.

- Offensively we're merely okay. Maybe we'll make enough shots, maybe we won't... but the quality of our looks vs the quality of theirs is night and day. Lowe is creative, I guess, but he gets relentlessly bumhunted on defense. He needs to be much, much better on one end or the other (ideally both) for us to do anything of meaning.

-,Oweh is finding out that he can't just force it into a packed lane on this team. Not enough gravity around him this year. And I'm not sure his shot has ever looked worse.

- Last year's team (if healthy) beats this one by double digits. There's no Brea, no Williams, and there's sure as heck no Butler on this squad.

I mean I love the analysis, I really do, but we’re 3 games into the ******* season and in a hostile environment and our PG has played 15 mins coming into this game. I’ll maybe give it 10 games before really diving deep into our strengths and weaknesses. One thing I’ll say is thank god we have Aberdeen over Acaden Lewis

In two more weeks, when that trash-*** football team wrecks us - and the Google/Disney dispute still isn't settled - I think I'll just call it a career for sports fandom. There is not a thing in this life that gives me more utter frustration than seeing anything good happen for that university or the people that cheer for it. I can't handle it. They are THE worst. I'll have to disconnect. I can't allow myself to care about it anymore.

Their fans were wishing death upon their starting QB 72 hours ago. Now they get to thump their tatted chest with this win and be loud pieces of **** for the rest of the year. It won't matter if we end up making a Final Four. If we even cut down the nets. They beat us on November 11th. That is enough to sustain them for another 2-3 years, like a f'ing cicada.

Piss poor. However, as stated previously, they were due to beat us and played about as good as they could, while we played like poo for most of the game and still made it interesting. This game should show an analytics man like Pope some really good things on who's ready to play and who isn't. Time to tighten the rotation significantly.

Also, as much as I hate to admit it, UL is a damned good team. They are deep at 1, 2, and 3, and have lots of ball handlers and shooters. Absolutely a top 10 team.

Please let JQ be a difference maker.

I say this without a drip of irony - if losing to them 3 times in 15 games does this to you, you really *should* give up on sports.

That ain’t healthy. And that’s from a guy with 20k posts on a message board.

Walked into a hornets nest too early in the season and got reality checked, like I said earlier.

Learned a few things about the group:

1- We can’t guard PnR, period

2- Cam Williams needs to play, I don’t care who’s minutes it cuts.

3- Moreno is solid as a FR, JJ is not

4- Chandler isn’t scared, but pretty much everyone else had no clue how to play from behind, what a smart shot is, or what exactly to do to close out a comeback

5- Aberdeen, Chandler, Cam, ????, Moreno

that’s my 5

6- Brown is really good

Oweh just coasts at times, need more consistent effort out of him. Terrible decision making at times, such as leaving a shooter to help or dig on ball side post feed. WTF!

Garrison is unplayable. Gives you nothing. Doesn’t punish or post smaller guards on pick and rolls. For a kid that can move he has absolutely zero instincts. Out of position to block shots. Two straight drives by Ville going off both feet. He’s nowhere to be found to block shots.

I was hoping Pope would give Dioubote some run at the 5. Go small for a spell. Never did.

Game was about shot selection and turnovers.

Not a fan of Johnson’s game.

It’s November 11th. We’ll be fine but really need Quaintance.

Oweh and Lowe rightfully catching a lot of flack but Dioubate was supposed to be the defensive bully and he didn’t do shlt. -15. Afraid Pope-ball rubbed off on him and not the other way around.

Lowe is soft. My guess is that will be our problem this year. He will spend tons of time laying on the ground and looking side eyed at refs.

Have a ton of respect for Aberdeen, Chandler and Kam tonight.

I know I am sick of losing games that matter to us in football and basketball.

I give zero ***** about beating scrubs in football and Sweet Sixteens or less the past 3-4 years. Enough already!

-Hate the way we defend inbounds underneath putting our 5 on the inbounder leads to bad mismatches.

-JQ will help our pnr d as we’ll be able to switch everything. Could go small with Mo at the 5 in spurts now and do that. Can use Mo on wings/guards some too but we haven’t seen it yet (other than switches).

-Nice to see Kam break out a bit, what a weapon he can be.

-Lowe and Oweh will have better days and are knocking off some rust still. Oweh being pulled on offense late had to be humbling and hopefully lights a fire under him.

-Would like to see us force more turns. He did a bit more of random pressing and trapping out of dead balls/timeouts at BYU but we’ve yet to see that here.

Consistent shooting will be a problem as well as the decision of when to hoist one up. Saw a lot of bad shots last night from Mo, JJ, OO, and JL.

14 turnovers will not do.

But hey, we're almost bowl eligible.

Matt saying our defense won’t improve much with JQ on the postgame is quite the take
Matt proves time and time again that he doesnt know ball. any kind of ball really.

i will give him credit for one thing though. he spews his ignorance with absolute confidence and im sure ill be debating some boomer today over him saying that.

88-95 with 1:24 left:

Gave up offensive rebound on a 3 pointer (could have been 90-95)
Gave up offensive rebound on 2 missed free throws (could have been 92-95)
Turnover off 2 missed free throws (could have been 94-95)
Oweh missed jumper off 2 missed free throws (could have been 96-95)

They practically tried to give the game away and we didn't make a single basket.

84-88, 2:30 or so to play. Our national champion guard goes to the line for a 1-and-1. Misses. Gets his own offensive board. Misses wildly in the paint.

UL goes down and misses a shot. We get rebound.

Lowe gets fouled and goes to the line for a 1-and-1. Misses. UL gets rebound.

Shot clock winding down and the set play totally dissolved, Mikel drives on Moreno after a terrible switch, help arrives late, AND-ONE!!!!!

^That^ was the ballgame.

Red flags

Lowe's defense
Lowe's decision making
Lack of 3P threat handcuffs Pope's offense
We’re soft. Afraid that’s just Popeball.
Outside of last year’s OU games, our best player is not a go to guy. He stuffs the stat sheet quietly. He's an amazing Robin, not a Batman.

The game was summed up in the pregame trash talk... "F*ck em" vs "We'll win hee hee 🤭"

But yeah the football team is almost bowl eligible. Just need to win 2 of 3 against opponents that have a combined record of 25-4.

Something else that was lost in the emotion from last night: I think Moreno outplayed Garrison and I'm not so sure he isn't just better than him. *I never thought I would have said something like that back in March.* So . . . when and IF Quaintance comes back, Pope is going to have some tough decisions to make imo.

Lots of $$$ on this squad and lots of egos/personnel to manage. It's a bit of a gut-check time early on in Pope's tenure.

I actually really like Lowe’s speed and quickness and ability to break down a defender. I think that’ll be huge as the season progresses. Kal Williams was a revelation last night. Really like Chandler. Would’ve really preferred this game in mid December. As it was Lowe has played 15 mins total all year before last night and think he ran out of gas.

Im gonna go a little deeper on some of the criticisms.

- Lowe is too feminine to lead a winning basketball team.
- Garrison is at least 50% retarded. Id love to see him take a Wonderlic
- Jasper is as selfish of a player as we have had. I dont know if pope has the personality to get a player like that to submit to team ball. Cal would have dog cussed him on national television last night.
- KSTA said it last week maybe even the week before. We just dont have the shooters to let Oweh be as effective as he was last year. Its only three games in but im afraid our best lineup has him on the bench.
- Having a player like Mikel Brown gives the rest of the team a confidence that they wouldnt normally play with. we dont have a guy like that (again)

The call to put Kam at the four was a good one. Either Moreno or Diabate at the five in those minutes would work. Can't have Garrison in there. Billy G would've had his *** in a bathroom stall.

We lose our first true road game regularly. Hell the 2012 team did too. Not trying to excuse it just trying to frame it 12 hours later. The difference is instead of floppy banged ******** it's guys wearing jerseys and their wives drinking 24 oz Coors Lights.

I disagree. JQ will bring that confidence to this team.

Also OO was just lined up on the perimeter and never once got the ball headed to the rim. You have to design some dribble hand offs toward him on the wing to screen his defender and get him going to the basket.

Garrison is awful, hasn’t improved one bit since last season. I like Moreno a lot, but damn we really need JQ asap 🙏

He got off to a rough start to the season but really encouraging what we briefly saw from Kam Williams last night. Some consistent contributions from him will go a long way for this team.

So this was just UL’s 3rd win in the last 16 games in the series. 🤣

Lowe single handily gave them the game the last three minutes.

A PG who can’t dribble well, play defense, hit 3’s or make front ends.
This is straight bullshiit. How about a little rust from his injury ? Take the 2nd game back from injury (limited minutes 1st game back) out of the equation, he was 2/5 from 3 (40%) and 3/4 from the FT line (75%) so you are wrong on BOTH. Can't dribble ??? LOL, another clueless statement. If you had said Oweh can't dribble, you would be right. HE cost us more than anyone else. 5 (FIVE) (Cinco) (Pyat) turnovers. 4/13 and 1/6 from 3FG, HE was the biggest problem. The preseason ALL SEC player is playing like s preseason All Shiit player. Lowe had an "off" game, and still lead the team with 5 assist. Also, Jasper Johnson in his 6 minutes he logged was able to jack up 4 three pointers and missed every GD one of them. He provided NOTHING, Oweh along with the terrible offensive game, may have had an even worse defensive one. He got straight abused, and really he lacked any kind of effort or pride was pretty damn alarming, but go ahead and blame the PG who just came back from injury.
The team defense, or lack there of, is my biggest issue. Just run and gun then hope the other team misses is not exactly a promising future outlook. They look the same as last years team, SAWFT. But it is early, time to toughen up and rather than working on their social media game and dunking, work on some MFing free throw shooting. They did "OK" last night, 12/16 (75%), but the problem is getting 16 free throws compared to the other teams 31. Also not a winning recipe when the other team takesand nearly makes twice the free throws your team gets. Once again, SAWFT.

6 minutes for Johnson tells me Pope sees it.
Rather take my chances with developing Moreno than Garrison. He seems like he will always be an unfinished product.
Can't have too many guys clogging middle as that's where Lowe and Oweh operate. And you can't have those two operating together.

Garrison only shot the ball 2 times, had 3 points and did manage to get 6 rebounds in his 19 minutes. Everyone just needs to step back from the computer and breath. They had a bad defensive game on the road along with too many careless turnovers. Nobody is as bad as they played last night, it happens. I think it being a L to Louisville has everyone just a bit off the chain and overreacting a bit. Give Louisville some of the credit, they were at home and are very good, not like we lost to some YMCA scrubs, they was due a win, and like I said, they wanted it more and was at home. I am pissed about the L, but ONLY because it was Louisville. Trashing Lowe is a bit much, he while at Pitt, had some big time games against Louisville, he is a good one, lets let him get his feet wet before we start trashing him. He had a bad game, still had 5 assist and hit 2/5 from 3 (40%), and 3/4 FT's (75%). The 3 TO's wasn't good, but nobody other than DA can really puff out their chest.

Had to check in after the Louisville game and CHRIST this is no different than reading rafters anymore. Wow. Was hoping to see good breakdowns and enjoyable talk. Nope.

We’re 3 games in, and Lowe has played 48 minutes, JQ hasn’t played and this has been said;

We’re soft and Pope coaches soft teams not sure he’s the guy,

Lowe is apparently too feminine to play basketball well, guess you like big physical bearded guys with tattoos swimming around in your head when you daydream… you do you though bubba,

Pope’s offense/defense focus = Cal’s defense/offense focus,

etc etc.

this place isn’t a shell of itself it’s a completely different place. This isn’t intelligent basketball talk and social banter, it’s rafters on a different forum. It’s the male version of The View with a focus on UK sports.

Good riddance GYERO, it was a good run. This is literally the N.O.B thread except full of unintelligent, spiteful, malicious nerds who were too scared to post on the real GYERO. 😘
