I know it happens, but still ...

An Ole Miss guy I know started in with the whole <redacted> thing. He is saying that Mullen may have not been there but he condoned it - we have the most immoral coaches in the SEC, etc. Proceeds to tell me how dirty Stansbury is and how Jackie was a non-Christian who spewed profanity all of time (Side note: What's with the non-Christian talk from Ole Miss folks lately, I've noticed it on blogs as well). Richard Williams got fired for having sex with a cheerleader (it was a pom squad member) and even under Croom we had players that were thugs.

I simply said to him:

Buddy, I don't know whats going on in college athletics. You hear about crap like that way too much. It was just last year that some basketball coach got arrested for getting drunk and punching out a cab driver and a football coach got ran out of town because he was having an affair with a television anchor. I don't know what's going on.

He proceeded to shut his mouth.

But seriously, why the non-Christian spewing from the Ole Miss crowd?

"find any way you can to run down your rival because they just spanked your *** last November"

The Rebel fans are worried and see we are on our way back. They were spoiled from 5 years of Crooms

Today, he said ole miss would never take a chance on a guy like that, too much risk of going on probation. That was today too.

This is what they resort to after getting their asses handed to them on the football field by a "inferior" opponent.

Seriously, I would have laughed at this guy and told him it's not very Christian to judge others. Then I would have proceeded to call him an ***-clown and explained to him that judging people is less "Christian" than calling someone an ***-clown. Make up some random number and put the word Psalm in front of it and tell him to go home and look it up. That's how I get most Baptists out of my face.

I will say it again...I hate recruiting. When signing day finally passes this kind of crap calms down. Dude, get thicker skin. I am sure Ole Miss fans aren't awake at night sweating over State. You have a friend that is trying to get under your skin. Obviously he succeeded. The whole <redacted> affair went on with Ole Miss fans because it was getting under State fans' skin. Lighten up and try not to take it all so seriously. Both sets of fans act the same way.

It's really that simple. I know a lot of dumbasses. Our fanbase has a **** ton, many that I can't stand to hold a conversation with for more than 5 minutes, but I've run into the same thing with every other fanbase I come across, so I know we're not alone.

My suggestion next time is to just really +$$+ with someone who brings lame *** **** at you, no matter who they are. Tell them that the strippers are just a cover up for the prostitution ring you run on your official visits, but you make sure to give the one with the raging herpes and crabs to the recruits that are most likely to sign with Ole Miss. Then tell him to check and see if Vincent Sanders is spending an inordinate amount of time scratching himself this weekend. Or you could tell him you're agnostic and ask him how pissed he's going to be when after he dies, he's nothing more than worm food. It doesn't matter if you're agnostic, or whatever you are just go really far off the subject, and he'll leave you the 17 alone. Or you could tell him you have vedy small penis; Ole Miss fan have vedy large penis. Or you could say really loud, "no I will not suck your dick for $50, (then quietly) but for $100 I'll think about it".

Choose your strategy based on the location (bar, church, country club, etc.) and the company obviously and also based on how good of acquaintances you are with the loser. If he's your boss, you might not want to try the dick sucking one. Just be smart about it, but do some really off the wall ****. It's your best response and will take all the wind out of the dumbass's sails.

It made me sick in the later years of Croom that everyone was saying what a good job he was doing. Every coach in the SEC was praising him. I would much rather be the hated.</p>

The stupid portions of fanbases do not deserve legit rebuttals. It can be fun making up stuff like that and seeing if people actually believe it.

I believe it was Arnold Schwartzenegger who said "Everybody pities the weak, jealousy you have to earn." I actually enjoy the bizarre arguments that they try to put forth. It really is quite entertaining.

Jesus submitted himself to ridicule, shame and torture (For "moral" victories, nonetheless.). Those three things a GOOD football player do not make.

After that, french kiss him deeply only to bite off his tongue and spit it back in his face.

I don't mean to offend, but when it comes to morality; just call a 17in hypocrites bluff every now and then. It's only "moral" when it's within their standard.

Eh... To hell with it.

I know he attends church regularly, and tries to instill Christian principles in the student athletes. I don't know much more about it, but the OP asked a question and I answered it. He's a good Christian man.

as to send out sermons to the kids. Again, I don't have a lot of knowledge about it other than that he's a true man of God, and that's something that a lot of people respect. Not that you have to be a good Christian to be a good football coach. I think Mullen's doing a fine job.

now that I think about it, he was probably trying to teach that nice news lady some good Christian principles in those 1000+ text messages they exchanged. I wonder if he did any hands-on healing?

That was either some badass sarcasm or some badass lack of awareness.

I don't think an extramarital affair is something that disqualifies somebody from being a good human being, but I do think it disqualifies you from getting to play the I'm a more christian man than other coaches card.

Mullen is Episcopalian. That makes him a christian man. He has also never been publicly outed for screwing a news anchor. That doesn't necessarily mean he's automatically a truly good man, but it sure as hell doesn't hurt. I bet you would change your mind about Nutt if your wife was the blonde headed news anchor he was openly 17ing.

During the Croom era, there were all kinds of GP comments on how nice it was to have a good, Christian man leading their program not a heathen like we had, yada yada. And don't say you don't remember it. That was a constant point with your idiot segment during the Croom era, when in reality, we both just had crappy coaches, and I wouldn't want either one regardless of religious affiliation.

Now, the Spirit is overrun with people claiming Mullen to be a Scientologist, even though he's not. And in the same breath they get giddy about Nutt and his coaches helping turn McCluster and other players to Christ.

Who freaking cares? Personally, I'd rather my coach spend his Sundays recruiting, and I don't care if he's Buddhist, just win. I know Nutt has a questionable history. He claims to be a Christian, and he may be devout these days even if he's slipped up in his past. That's his personal business though, and I really don't care. If he's preaching Christianity while cheating on his wife, it isn't any different to me than if he's preaching Christianity while actually being a great Christian father. I'd rather him cheat on his wife and win than be an honest man and lose. Point being, winning is his job, and it's what we pay him for, so the whole "character" or "religion" discussion is a pointless to me.

Honestly now, if Mullen were a Scientologist (I know he's not), would that fact matter to any of you if he was taking you to bowl games consistently?
