They're really worried about the fallout from the latest player scandals. They're afraid they're going to have to vacate wins, including the national championship, from last year. And also afraid the NCAA will really hammer them with probation. They said Saban sorta went ballistic yesterday in his press conference because all the reporters wanted to talk about was the current goings on. None really asked about the Bama/A&M game.

I UAT gets hammered, we'll be buried since we're already on probation. I suspect it won't be too serious a violation though ... but it does appear from the article that there were violations multiple times.

My Bama coworker

Seems to think that they will have to vacate the 2012 title. He's not too worried about it since no one seems to agree upon how many they have anyways.

If UAT gets hammered - that means we are getting hammered. So I hope they don't get hammered.

If we both get slapped and Bama has to vacate their win over us..

...can we vacate the loss?

It's been mentioned before (Paul Jones and several here) that this would most likely pre-date our current probation as to not fall under the repeat offender clause.

But, yes, if Bama gets smacked we better brace ourselves as well.

Wouldn't be surprising if Bama and Tennessee were exonerated and we get hammered

Why would anyone get hammered if it was agents giving the benefits and not the universities?

ETA: Except the agents for breaking the law?

Didn't Fluker play for them in 2011, too? If so, they would have to vacate TWO nattys. That would be a kick in two nuts, not just one. That would worry even Bama. Lot of money to give back.

I just don't think the NCAA wants to do something that huge, it would hurt college football bad and the NCAA. They can shamelessly bury anything they please.
Its just a Yahoo story a this point, not even an NCAA investigation.

I don't see it like that...

The worst that possibly comes of this(assuming there was no cover up or knowledge within the institutions -- which I haven't seen any evidence of) is vacated wins for games played with an "ineligible player" -- Naturally, that makes this a bigger deal for Alabama than us...

Does not fall under repeat offenders -- since we weren't first time offenders when it happened....

Thanks for the link. I figured he must be a football player but didn't know much about him.

I can see it unfolding now Bama get put under the microscope while Texas offers Saban 10MM per year and he gets out of T-town.

There's a difference between some roster filler and a two time all American top 10 NFL pick.

In a way Hat, that surprises me

It's not like we don't play them every year! This is akin to making fun of WSS, except yall traded places. I'm sorry but this is pathetic. You don't have to be that big of a fan to know. Do yall actually watch the games?

I had no idea who Dan Mullen was when he was first mentioned as a candidate for HC. Knew Charlie Strong. No idea about Mullen.

I think you might as well be banging your head on a wall.

I'm curious if anyone that admits to not knowing who he is knows who Patrick Peterson is or who Eric Berry is or played for?

Well I guess our sarcastericks** must have gotten lost in translation. Good to know though. I see that chat has so many people. I'm sure one more might have taken the server down.
