Had MSU hired Mr. Fisher

We'd be talking about last year's Peach Bowl.
We'd be having buy/sells on a better bowl
We'd be 3-2 or 4-1
We'd have recruits calling in and not canceling

Alas, we are MSU

Not only was he a possibility, he wanted the job and was ready to skip LSU's bowl game to get to Starkville and get to work. That was the word from high ranking Athletic Department employees at the time.

Jimbo Fisher is doing an absolutely miserable job at Florida State. Why can people not get over him? Would we better with him? Maybe, maybe not. If we could go back in time and make the hire over again, should we give the job to Fisher? Absolutely not.

Yes, or so I was told that Fisher bowed out when his agent Jimmy Sexton got word that LT and Dr. Lee offered the job to Croom.

Agree that Fisher is a very overrated coach.

Would we better with him? Maybe, maybe not.
You don't seriously think that Fisher wouldn't have done a better job than Crxxm do you? He's an overrated coach, but he's not a complete moron.

If we could go back in time and make the hire over again, should we give the job to Fisher? Absolutely not.
People weren't exactly beating down our door with the poor seasons, internal problems on the team, and looming probation. He might not have been the best hire we could have made, but given the circumstances, he wouldn't have been a bad hire. Much better than the one we did make.

...and see Croom's record after 4 1/2 years, it would be a no brainer to hire him. At the time, I thought we made the right call.

He's not just doing a bad job; he's doing absolutely terrible. Flordia State was almost as bad as us on offense last year, and they're headed that way again this year, despite having infinitely better talent. He has developed QBs about as well as our esteemed Woody McCorvey since he's been there, and he's doing it with 4 and 5 star prospects.

Do I think we made the right hire? No.

Do I think we'd be all that better off if we had hired Jimbo? Not really.

It's not that I'm defending the hire we did make. I'm just amazed that people are still hung up on us not hiring Jimbo when he is proving that not only is he not that great, he sucks.

Look at what he did with Booty, Davey, Mauck, and Russell. Some of those guys are naturally gifted, some of those guys wanted to go to dental school. Davey's development was most impressive to me.

and their offense is 38th right now so its not even in the same area code as ours.

Another factor we were facing at the time was that there was some external pressure being put on us to hire a non-caucasian coach.

when you've got the talent on the rest of the offense that LSU has had this century.

he gets no credit if a quarterback thrives and he catches all the heat if the QB is no good.

I think he deserves a little praise for all those quarterbacks. If it were just one, I wouldn't think so much of him.

Does Saban get credit for winning at LSU? Hell, its not that hard to win with all that talent.

Alright. I wasn't really considering what he did with QBs at LSU. My bad.

However, their offense this year sucks. I don't care what their current ranking is. The only good team they've played is Wake Forest, and they had 220 total yards with 5 interceptions and 2 fumbles. They lost 12-3. They suck. He sucks.

Our former AD never took the time to interview anybody else. He did the same thing when he rehired Ron Polk. all I know is Jimbo showed he could develop some qb's at LSU. We have yet to show we can develop any qb. To suggest he could not have done better than Croom makes me want to laugh.

you could've just stepped back and said "holy ****, we are hiring a 50 year old running backs coach who hasn't been involved in the college game in 15 years."

I said it's not a certainty that everyone acts like it is.

I'll tell you what should make you laugh. People are clueless enough to still be fawning over a coach we almost hired 5 years ago, even though he is sucking *** at his current job.

This is worse than the Stan Jones obsession. At least he actually coached here.

absolutely, inexcusable to hire a unproven coach over someone like Fisher in a successful program, running a successful offense. Pathetic

LT didn't want to deal with him because he had an agent. Another thing where LT really screwed up was us wanting a coach that would "be at MSU for 25 years". We need people that are looking to move up. I would love to be the "cradle of coaches" in the SEC.

than the one we made. But my honest opinion of him at the time was that his offenses at LSU underperformed for the talent they had available. He doesn't have that kind of talent at Florida State and he's not having anywhere near that kind of success.

I follow FSU pretty closely, and I'm a little disappointed in Fisher as well. I agree w/ another poster that said that he may have underachieved w/ the talent he had at LSU. They were really good, but not as explosive as say a UF of last year, Missouri of this year, fsu of the 90's (which their talent warranted)
Also, fsu is pretty talented still, much more so than MSU, especially at QB and the skill positions. They also added West Virginia's and former MSU Oline coach Rick Trickett, who is supposed to be a top position coach, but they haven't had the desired results yet.
Give him some time though before you judge him at FSU, they're starting 3 freshman and 2 sophomores on the Oline. Ouch.
