Very good. Do think we should have included more about being #1. Even if we didn't keep it, there aren't but 3 (?) teams that were ranked #1 this year. Pretty damn impressive feat

I was thinking maybe if we weren't #1 before Alabama we might have stayed focused and worked just a little harder. The distractions were unbelievable. Seems like the guys were always doing some TV spot.

One thing this season does: Our guys have seen the view from the top of the mountain. Having seen it and lost it should make them hungrier than ever before. Hopefully, that will drive outperformance next year, despite the loss of some key personnel. We have the right team leadership to take that taste and come back for more.

Everyone has lost sight of what we have done this year. Truely amazing. Thanks to the team and the coaches for their work and dedication. We all need to take the next step.

There is no doubt here, it is almost a factual statement. In the old era of the BCS, we would have been #2 and probably kept a chip on our shoulder. We lost that after Auburn. I cannot say we would have beaten Alabama and Ole Miss, but I do know this - up until mid-to-late October, we could have beaten anybody. After Auburn we were not the same team, we almost played with talent only.

I don't think we handled all the distractions very well at all. Really, the only good game we played after we were ranked #1 was the Vandy game. It's tough to be thrown into that environment where you're being interviewed every day by national media when you haven't had that your first 2, 3 or 4 years. I think we'll be better equipped for the increased publicity next fall.

I do not feel this is true. Some of our fans almost seem like they want it to be, but it simply is not. I think our entire fanbase is extremely proud and upbeat. No, nobody likes losing to Ole Miss but that loss does not sting nearly as much this year.

It hurt double to me. If it hurt less to anyone then you are satisfied with mediocrity. Especially with the hard-headed play calling Mullen exhibited in the ALA and UM games. We gave those two games away.

Guess I spoke too soon. 10-2 = mediocrity to our fans I suppose.

Definitive statement with passive aggressive shaming and a tad of entitlement - yep, Cherokee is a millenial for sure.

I'm not sure you understand the definition of mediocrity.

then you are satisfied with mediocrity.

It sucks losing to Ole Miss but it doesn't take away from the fact that we've had an exceptional year overall.

If you think 10-2 is mediocrity, I'd hate to see what you said about last year.

Not only the #1 ranking caused distractions, but the Heisman hype did too. It was a lot to handle.

But now, we've "been there done that" ... they'll be able to handle it a lot better next year, and so will Dak. I want him to win that thing next year.

Kinda funny how mediocrity is redefined after just one excellent year. I don't think most of our fans feel like 10-2 is mediocre, but 7-5 sure is now and many times before we just want to be bowl-eligible. Success does that to you -- raises the bar.

But I hope we never get to the point when we feel that 10-2, or 9-3, is mediocre (in the SEC) like Georgia always has felt.

Honestly, they really don't either. Mark Richt is still there, tells you all you need to know. The only team that really believes 10-2 is mediocre is Alabama.

I never said 10-2 is mediocrity and I didn't say we didn't have an exceptional year. My hope for the year was 9-3 so the team exceeded my expectations. I just said if the sting of the egg bowl is less because we won 10 games this year then you might be satisified with mediocrity.

You only get so many chances to be in the position we were in. Losing the egg bowl was a punch in the gut, didn't diminsh the accomplishments, just failed to capitalize on the progress.

This season was very good. But it's hard for me to say it was great because we lost to Bama AND Ole Miss. Those two are the teams I hate the most (I think that's true for most of our fan base). Win one of those and it's probably the greatest football season in program history.

I think the way we view this season will change based on next season. If we win 9-10 games next year we probably look at 2014 as the year we turned the corner. If we win 6-8, we might think of 2014 as the year we missed our shot. Mullen says he's not a one hit wonder. I'm hoping he and the team are ready to prove it in 2015.

Indeed. That UMiss game was/is a huge monkey on our backs, but what SEC team went undefeated? Everybody lost at least one, and playing on the road in the conference isn't an easy win for any team, no matter how good they are. What this team accomplished this year is NOTHING to hang our heads about.

I agree with most of this, but I would urge you not to think like the part I bolded. I refer you to a thread I made a few weeks ago here. I really hope our fans see it that way, because it is the only real way to look at our progress. 8-4 next season would be the natural progression. 6-6? Sure, I see your point. I do not think that happens though.

The sting of the Egg Bowl loss was less because it is just one game out of 12. Yes, it's the biggest one, but it's still just one game. If I'm offered the chance to take 10-2 with an Egg Bowl loss before the season starts, I'm taking that every time. Because 10-2 in the SEC is anything but mediocre.

Hardly a millennial. Bled maroon for about a millennium for sure. I just saw what I saw, called it like I saw it. But as Dennis Miller says, "I could be wrong."
