Hamilton baseball coach Lewis Earnest wanted nothing to do with the Hamilton – Bruce controversy.</p>
I spoke with Earnest this afternoon. The longtime Hamilton skipper refused on more than one occasion to report the violation.</p>
“I hate it,” he said. “Once it got in the papers and the public and my kids and parents and this community found out, I have an obligation to stand up for my kids. If I don’t stand up for my kids, what am I telling them?”</p>
Earnest, who said he and Bruce coach Sid Burt are friends, said the situation is unlike any other he’s ever been a part of.</p>
“I haven’t (seen anything like this),” Earnest said. “Nope and I hope I don’t ever again I’m in a lose, lose situation. Sid is a good guy and a good coach. I know he didn’t intentioanlly break any rules.”</p>
Earnest is concerned that he will look like the bad guy in the case, a case that has gone beyond anywhere he ever wanted it to go.</p>
“You work to get a good reputation and now people are looking down on you,” he said. “That’s not something I want.”</p></div>
