Less than 48 hours after the completion of the Bayside Marlins 2025 football campaign, the Virginia Beach football program shockingly lost its leader.
Jon White - who coached the Marlins to a 78-60 overall record in 13 seasons at the helm - has unexpectedly passed away. White was 43 years old.
His Bayside team finished this season 7-4 overall and was eliminated from the Region 5A playoffs by fellow Beach District member Salem, 28-19, on Friday night. They had defeated the Sun Devils 34-21 during the regular season.
White's tenure saw the team finish above .500 on 11 occasions out of 13 seasons and only missed the postseason twice with him the helm. He took over for Darnell Moore, with whom he was an assistant under for several seasons. That included as defensive coordinator when the Marlins won the Eastern Region Division 6 Championship and reached the State Semifinals in 2010.
As a player, White was an All-Beach District linebacker in 1999 and helped them capture a district title. He went on to play his College Football at nearby Hampton University before getting into coaching at Cox High in Virginia Beach.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Hampton Roads community also mourned the sudden passing of Kempsville assistant coach Raymond Colston at the age of 42.
Colston, who joined Tallwood's coaching staff in 2016 and would remain there until earlier this year when he joined the Chiefs, also served as youth coordinator at First Baptist Church South Hill. He was as an in-school suspension coordinator at Tallwood.
We send our deepest condolences to the White and Colston families along with the countless lives they touched.
