might have been a real Heisman posibility, if someone at Mt. Olive would have woken up and thought, "Hmmm. Maybe I should make sure he is prepared for college." I'm sure what they thought was "Hey, let's let him do whatever he wants."

It didn't hurt that his brother was Air McNair hence his name Air II McNair. I work with a guy that was one of his receivers and that went with him to pretty much all the same schools. I think he said Jackie was basically telling him he would be on the field and possibly start at safety his freshman year.

Bower recruited him as a QB, pushing him to replace Favre, who had just finished his senior year. He had a ton of DB offers from 1-A schools. Family connections got him to Alcorn.

I just can't fathom someone choosing to go SWAC when they could go SEC. And further, I sure can't fathom Alcorn being said SWAC choice. Nevertheless, it apparently has happened.

As others have mentioned, his brother was at the time the greatest QB in Alcorn history and very few I-A schools were recruiting him as a QB. Maybe if Jackie had offered him a chance to play QB we might have landed him.

He went to Alcorn because all his family went there and they said he could play QB. He would have been in the NFL if he played safety also. He was just that good.

as Moulds, and he would have had Chris Jones and Shaston Coleman to throw to as well- those guys weren't bad WR's either, for college. He also would have had the enormous O-line and Kendall Watkins blocking for him, as well as an NFL FB in Fred McCrary, and then he would have had Davis and Bouie as his RB's.

Then Taite could have backed him up and smoked all the dope he wanted and it wouldn't have come back to bite us in the ***.

That offense would have been badass. There's no other word for it. McNair would have been the difference in the Bama game that year, and there's pretty good chance we could have beaten LSU in a shootout that year, IMO. We lost to Auburn pretty bad that year, and Auburn had a pretty good team, so I don't know about that one. I think the score was 42-18 or something like that, and they called a Moulds TD back on a "hold". If we had made it to Atlanta that year against UF, with McNair, that would have been a sight to behold.

Oh, yeah, and our defense and ST's were pretty good that year, to.

I remember well. It wasn't exactly a high-pressured recruitment but he still had the offer. I suspect he had doubts Brewer would follow through on the promise of QB first but the offer was made that way.

Keshawn Johnson signed with State out of high school. Then didn't qualify, went to Juco in California then on to USC. If State could have kept him, he would have played with Eric Moulds. McNair, Moulds, and Keshawn...you kiddin me? Just damn...

I've always heard Keyshawn signed with MSU, because him and Moulds became friends..

But I've never seen that documented or anything.. I'm beginning to think that might be MSU message board folk legend..
