Handling the Hype

Launching up in the rankings generates a fair amount of attention itself, but couple that with the Heisman talk surrounding Dak and all the media craze about this football w-end in the state, and the hype meter is pegging. How do you think our coaching staff will handle it all and keep the focus where it needs to be? Lots of distractions to coaches and players alike with all the media requests and such, worries me that it will disrupt our preparation. Is this a challenge or do you see it as not that big of a deal?

Been concerned about the same thing. My attitude improved somewhat when I consider that Dan Mullen has been through this kind of thing numerous times at Florida, complete with Gameday and a Heisman trophy candidate. He should have learned something and should have a handle on it, as well as it can be handled.

He may know how to handle it, but does the rest of the staff? My fear is that we come out there more worried about trying to keep a consistent energy level and wind up looking flat or sluggish the first few series. I want to come out the gate jacked up and hit them in the mouth early. But I also know that we have a tendency to go up a couple scores and then take the foot off the gas. You guys know the rest of the verse - opponent makes a comeback and then suddenly we're scrambling.

Jackie used to preach about only being able to really get psyched up for a big game and play your guts out only on two or three occasions throughout the season. Question is can our team do that throughout the rest of the year?

That, plus a little luck along the way, is what separates the good from the great.

We can do it as well as any team can. If, and I mean 'If', JWS was correct does that mean it only applies to one team.....would it not be true for the other teams as well? This 2014 MSU team is different in mind-set, ability, and performance from any I can ever recall at our school and I am from the Class of '62.

I'm really concerned that we just completely shot our wad.

We built up a lot for the LSU game.

With the week off I don't think that's a concern. Without the bye I might agree.

Mullen is pretty business-like, and with Dak and our other team leaders keeping the guys focused I think we'll be OK.

we can do the typical mississippi state thing and fail to show up OR we can harness the new energy around mullen, the stadium, top 10 recruiting, national ranking, and what I am told by the national media is a Hiesman contender. i hope we come out as well prepared as we did in baton rouge. its gonna be tough. we need some turnovers and to score on the majority of our possessions. it time we put our big boy boots and answer the bell with a little swagger of our own.
