I am seeing Manny Diaz's name come up in a LOT of recruiting interviews. Not just defensive players either. He is in on at least two of the QBs we are recruiting. I thought this would be the case, but regardless of what happens with the scheme, we definitely traded up in the recruiting department with the Torbush-Diaz changeover.

Also, I watched the Devante Scott video and it was pretty solid.

I have noticed this as well. I knew from the get-go that Diaz would be a better hire in the long haul just because of his youth.

Devante Scott's video is pretty killer. I will from now on stop negatively questioning our coaching staff on some of these "finds"

but time will tell

I've seen this posted a lot lately. What happened to Coach Hud being the one in waiting?

Why is there so much talk about Mullen leaving? I'm still holding out hope that he will be our Frank Beamer.

Always thought it strange that a defensive coach could recruit offense and verse visa. Clearly, its not a big deal. Just seems weird.

I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I believe it's based on territories. The other coaches are brougt in as necessary.

Recruiters generally recruit by location/area. Then I think we have some of our "best" recruiters that we will try to get in home with all our top targets. An effort will definitely be made at some point to get the position coach in contact with them as well - probably during campus visits if nothing else.

I imagine we get Diaz, Wilson, Hevesy, Melvin and/or Hughes involved with most of our top targets.

I don't know ifDan will be our Beamer, but I think we could hold onto him alot longer than most think. If we start winning and going bowling on a regular basis, Ireally believe fan and booster support for the program would go to new highs, and also, Mullen has a young family which I thinkcould influence him to stay a little longer. The thing that concerns me is being able to hold our entire staff together over time if we start to win because the salaries for assistants are becoming more astronomical each year, and I don't know how we can possibly pay the entire staff competitively with the rest of the SEC.

Frank Beamer is from Virginia and played football at Virginia Tech. Unfortunately for us, Mullen doesn't have those type ties to MSU.

I don't think he'll leave us for just any job - it's going to have to be a big-time program and a good situation. He's already at an SEC school, and I have to think he likes being in the Southeast. We'll put up a lot of cash to keep him, but we won't be able to match the major programs, should they come calling.</p>

You're also right that it has to be the right job, but any suggestion that he's long-term is laughable. And, hell, it's the way I want it! What a f'n refreshing change of pace for dear ol state.

Also, Megan West Mullen will not be staying at home raising babies for very long. Girl's way too damn talented to sit around. I predict they'll be looking for a good fit for her career as well as his in the not too distant future, and it will include access to a better tv market than the GTR.

I never new Beamer played at VA Tech.
It's actually one of the reasons that Tech stuck with him for so long in the early years. He didn't really come blazing out of the gates.

to accomplish in order to get an offer he would consider? (I realize hires like Chizick and Kiffin make this a guessing game.)

They would know that if they didn't sign with me, I would have my defense come after them on every play until the offensive recruit begged for mercy. 'Nuff Said

I agree that this is probably a matter of which coach has which area but I can see recruiting the opposide of the ball making sense. With most things in life, you know your enemies much better than you know your friends. A DC would know exactly the quarterback abilities that would make the offensive scheme hard to defend.

Considering how most of the college football nationviews MSU, the fact that Mullen runs the spread, and that he has already shown he can do alot with very little, I think back to back winning seasons will make him a very hot name in major coaching circles.Other than that, I'd say he'son a plane to FLwhenever Urban Meyer decides to finally call it quits.

JoePa had very few ties to Penn State before he coached there. Not saying we're going to have the next leader in FBS wins at our school currently but JoePa is a better example of what you're trying to say.

although regardless of wins, no coach will ever be at a school that long again. Or maybe even live to be that age.

just a different Sport. When John Cohen gets this thing up and rolling, and he will it is only a matter of time. He would not leave Mississippi State for any other college job in the country. He is at his dream job and no amount of money would entice him to go anywhere else. Once Greg Byrne gets Dudy Noble Renovated, he can put the baseball program on cruise control because Cohen will take care of the rest.

On how good the local scientology temple is.

Just saying if he and she like it and their Thetan training is going ok tehn they will stay at least through another few levels on their bridge to total freedom. I do not think tehy will stay as long as it would take them to get to Dynamic level 8.

Unless the spaceship comes back and then all bets are off.

...Mullen doesnt really have ties anywhere. He's def not gonna go coach at his Alma Mater, and everywhere else he's been it's ben in strictly a professional fasion. If he starts winning here, I could see him wanting to keep the program he helped build in tact. At least I hope he does. I think him being our Bobby Bowden is a better example.
