Hank Bounds is a K-12 guy and a damn good one. What he is doing for the K-12 schools in Mississippi is nothing short of remarkable. The problem in the education community that exists with Bounds is that he would be snatched up by another state or the Feds before he could finish the job.

I heard another name near and dear to Mississippi State for the IHL gig - one Malcolm Portera.

Auburn hired Ed Richardson as president several years back. When I moved here, he was superintendent of the city schools. He went from there to the State Supt of the Board of Education. He wore out his welcome in that job, so they just moved him to the AU presidency. That's right. No interviews, no search. Just moved him there. We basically had a glorified HS principal running the show for about three or four years. It was slightly more successful than the Croom era, but not much.

Not no, but hell no.

Why would Protera even remotely be interested in the job unless Alabama is getting tired of his ***, which might well be possible.

Never understood the Foglesong hysteria by some. He did some major shaking up (mostly and a big mostly for the good) and there was continual, continual, continual bitching while Protera cause MSU to stagnate for 10 years and no one ever complained.

IHL Commish needs to be familiar with academic policy and programs, etc. We could have a man leading all eight of our public universities/colleges that as recent as 10 years ago was a coach at Forest County Ag High School. This is a political pick if there ever was one, except he doesn't have any clue about higher education.
