...he was as a Shula recruit in 2005 and voluntarily greyshirted, as the above poster indicated. He was offered a scholarship by Shula. He then was asked to walk-on by Saban, when he arrived. He spent 2006 redshirting at Alabama. In his redshirt freshman year, 2007, Saban told him he would have to build himself up to 245 to play for him. Gary then contacted Coach Croom, his former team mate at Alabama (Gary played OT at Alabama for 3 years with Croom.) He transferred to State and had to sit his 2008 "sophomore year," because Shula wouldn't release him. He couldn't even practice with the team. He continued to work out and keep in shape, and finally got to the playing field this past Spring as a walkon transfer. Because of the redshirt at Alabama, he is classified as a Junior, having to give up his sophomore year of eligibility. As many of you can tell, he is our best RB lead blocker. His Dad owns one of the biggest guard and police dog training companies in the Southeast. They train primarily German Shepherds, but also have trained Belgian Shepherds, and the Bouvier des Flanders.
