Check out that link and you will see that the Bonilla deal, while asinine, is not the craziest one out there.

It was asinine, but made more asinine by the Mets actually using the returns of a Ponzi scheme to justify the risk and total payout. If they had made sound investments and used those returns to justify what they could cover, it would have made more sense. They are actually very, very lucky that Bonilla didn’t ask for a higher interest rate on the deferral, because they probably would have been dumb enough to pay it.
