Edit: I suppose nothing but tulips and ponies will suffice today without having old posts dragged out of the crawl space. I'm happy we won. We can worry about the portal later.

Original: I love these guys, but UK absolutely cannot go into next season expecting significant contributions from any of them. The three returning sophomores can play the same role Allen Edwards played on the 1996 team. Lewis can play the role of Turner on the 1996 team.

Pope has to go all-out in this year's portal free agency period. No mercy. No favorites. Recruit the best players, and get the boosters to pony up the cash to actually beat schools like UConn and Alabama for portal players.

UK gets 15 scholarships. My hope is that the roster is good enough to ensure that Noah, Perry, and Chandler represent our 11th, 12th, and 13th best players in the rotation.

Why do you want to recruit of Lewis? He hasn't even played in a game yet. If he is someone to recruit over before he gets here, he shouldn't have been recruited.
My point is that he's not someone you want starting for you next year. Don't start freshmen point guards unless they're lottery-level super studs. Lewis can be the backup point guard.

If that's the case those 3 should transfer IMO. Not gonna play any unless injuries run rampant again.

Kinda jumping the gun on Lewis aren't ya? We don't know how he's gonna be. I for one think he's gonna be a good player here.

Now, the others we can agree on.
Wayne Turner was a good player in 1996, too. It's just that he wasn't depended on as a critical piece.

That's the same role I want Lewis to fill as a freshmen. 4 to 5 points per game. 15 to 18 minutes per game.

I agree and I think he will. Their time to shine would potentially be their junior years.

NO DOUBT!!!

We need to get a GREAT Wing player above all else!!! That position with the Robinson injury has been the one spot that has really hurt us in the SEC.

Coach Pope shouldn't have any problem getting a PG or PF because those 2 spots will be a lot easier to fill.

My question is will Garrison and Oweh progress to a point where they can compete consistently against top athletes??

If they can, it will also make it easier to fill out a championship caliber roster.

And your last statement is the whole point of all of this. Pope is here to put together championship-caliber rosters. It's nice that our freshmen got some playing time this year, but I'd much rather Pope find 2 or 3 higher level wing portal players (in addition to Johnson and Oweh) to get those minutes next year.

What if he’s good enough to start? All the bluebirds were after this kid.
I don't think he will be. How many freshmen point guards ranked between 25-40 have been good enough to start in year #1? SGA is the only one I can think of, while Hagans, Quickley, Green and Askew were not (Hagans had to do it out of necessity).

We've seen how brutal the SEC has become. I don't want to go into battle with a freshmen point guard unless he's a top 20 pick.

Chandler and Garrison will transfer. Hopefully we get Oweh back and then we obviously will need 4ish really good pieces from the portal.
WHY would Garrison transfer?????

Coach Pope runs a system that fits his abilities. He allows him to shoot 3's, play loosely and if he gets stronger( I think he will) then he could be a FORCE next season.

No chance we only go into next year with only Garrison and Moreno. I assume Garrison wants a guaranteed starting spot with a lot of minutes and I don't think that will be here.

Actually, I think Pope runs a system that fits what Garrison wants to be more so than his current abilities. But I think that's even more of a reason one would think Garrison would return.

I do think that Oweh and Johnson will be a good duo next year add a dominant pg and PF will be in good shape

If you are suggesting looking in the portal, I agree 100%.

Different players, Turner was quick and strong but couldn't shoot outside 10'. Lewis not as quick or strong, but hopefully can shoot

Lewis won’t start but will be in the rotation. You don’t go after a kid everyone wants to not play them and let them transfer. Noah will play too. He has the body size & can contribute multiple ways with how hard he plays and rebounds. Chandler has shown flashes of potential with athleticism. I don’t think they’ll start but we’ll see what a true college offseason of strength, conditioning and agility/speed work does for these guys before I count them out.

They didn't play well against top talent today..
Freshman usually don't. In a world of instant gratification it is wise to understand the importance of building a strong foundation built with freshman. Perry, Noah and Chandler will be good (not great) players in time. Yes we recruit over them the first year or two but also give them the chance to improve like former Kentucky stars.

If we are going to be an elite team next year, then yeah. We will likely need to find a stud on the wing and in the frontcourt. We might be halfway there if we somehow steal Ament.

I can't even imagine how much effort and energy has to go into constructing a roster at a competitive program year in and year out under these rules.

Reading through this thread makes my head spin.

And if I'm Noah or Perry and I'm 11-12 on a depth chart next year because of mass additions they should go somewhere else unfortunately.

But I do believe BOTH will be able to contribute for a championship level team before they are done.

I cant wait to see a whole new roster every year.😩

Honestly I wouldn’t mind losing two of them for better players on the roster. I like them but I’m not sure Chandler or Perry will ever be the level of player we need to be a championship team unless we stay healthy and they give us 5 minutes a game here and there. I know they are the worst versions of themselves and could improve, but Perry won’t be getting taller or quicker laterally to guard anyone. Chandler looks to have lost a lot of his skill while on his mission trip. I don’t know if his handle will ever get to the level it needs and his shot looks broken. He has very little offensive game. Defense he has some great tools but he’s not close right now. He’s already 21 and lost a lot of the years they improve the most.

Lewis is on another level compared to Perry. It’s not even close.
