They didn't play well against top talent today..

I'm not saying Saul's wrong. I'm just saying I wouldn't want to be 11th to 13th n rotation as a sophomore. NIL and hometown thing probably makes up for lost pride for perry and Noah some but they are competitors.

The modern game requires exceptional athleticism and skill. Chandler has the athleticism, just need him to develop the skill and technique. Can perry and Noah develop a good enough skill set to not be liabilities out on the court?

Hopefully Pope with change his philosophy up a bit and get some high caliber athletes. We gotta have some or we just can't compete in the SEC.
I am pretty sure that after playing season 1 in the SEC, a philosophical adjustment has occurred. I know he is recruiting the top players in the class for 2026. I also understand that we are still going hard for Ament in this class as well.

just because of hometown thing doesn't mean they should play

WHY would Garrison transfer?????

Coach Pope runs a system that fits his abilities. He allows him to shoot 3's, play loosely and if he gets stronger( I think he will) then he could be a FORCE next season.
What makes you think he will get stronger?

He hasn’t this season.

All of guys are one dimensional. Once teams got enough film on them they knew what to do to take away what they want to do.

We didn’t adjust. Are we unwilling to adjust or just unable?

I love these guys, but UK absolutely cannot go into next season expecting significant contributions from any of them. The three returning sophomores can play the same role Allen Edwards played on the 1996 team. Lewis can play the role of Turner on the 1996 team.

Pope has to go all-out in this year's portal free agency period. No mercy. No favorites. Recruit the best players, and get the boosters to pony up the cash to actually beat schools like UConn and Alabama for portal players.

UK gets 15 scholarships. My hope is that the roster is good enough to ensure that Noah, Perry, and Chandler represent our 11th, 12th, and 13th best players in the rotation.
They will all get better though. Perry and Noah will play 10/15 mins next year

Lewis is on another level compared to Perry. It’s not even close.
That’s kind of why I left him off my list. I think he’s the odd man out for a while. He needs about 3” and 30lbs. Noah has shown he has the physicality to play. He rebounds well, shoots it, rarely turns it over and guards as well as anyone not named Butler or Williams. Both shots that were hit over him today were contested. A deep three in transition and a step back fade-away 3. He needs to develop a midrange game off the dribble or screen but that’s part of being a freshman. Chandler is athletic enough to play if he can knock the rust off over the summer. He has the tools.

I think Lewis might surprise lot of people next year!
I sort of get a tyler ulis vibe from him. I actually like him more then a lot that are rated above him .

Both should be able to give us something we lack this year in athletic ability. Really curious how Pope system will benefit them. Perry and Noah would've been a disaster in cals system, but were serviceable in Popes! We need some rim protection and rebounding. That's my big concern.

I agree on Lewis. A lot of the top players in the camps raved about him. His hs team scores so few points that it depresses his stats. We'll have to wait and see but he appears very talented.

Nah .. The Cats just need another Mashburn type ... Pelphrey and Feldhaus were not world beaters athletically but that team was pretty good
College basketball is a totally different game now! All these guys drawing the NIL retirement until they are 26 years old! I look for 70% of our teams to be portal players from now on. NIL is scattering the top 10-15 high schoolers all over the country.

I thought for a second the OP was saying Lewis shouldnt play at all here and I was like whaaa , he's higher ranked than anyone on our team this year lol. But he meant not starting and obviously. We need to recruit starters in the portal for PG, SG , and PF. Ideally Jasper Johnson doesnt start either and you have him and Lewis as your 2nd string back court.

also Noah and Perry are fine to play, you just need to surround them with athleticism when they are in the game

Lewis will be the starting pg next season unless Pope can pull a great one from the portal. Johnson will also get minutes there when Lewis and a portal guard are out. Perry's minutes will greatly diminish next season. He's getting alot of pt because Butler Krissa and Robinson have been injured. Perry Noah and Chandler are not ready for championship level basketball. Everyone wants the local kids to be stars and that's fine. I do too being from Eastern Ky but let's be realistic here. To be the best you have to have high caliber players not your favorite players.

perry and noah are carreer backups............ at least on the level of a team we are wanting to be.

Besides maybe Lewis…Pope needs to recruit over these guys every year. I love these guys as well but they are quality bench players…no shame in that!

I do think that Oweh and Johnson will be a good duo next year add a dominant pg and PF will be in good shape
I’d like to see Johnson develop his right hand some more, he is extremely left handed dominant. I just watched a 9 minute highlight film and he went the left every single time. Never used his right hand once for a layup. That will make him a lot easier to guard when he drives the basketball.

Need to recruit an injury exorcist. At this rate 2 key guys will be injured again next season.

Pope will need to target the Cal Ripken Jr. and Pete Rose's of college basketball to guarantee no games are missed.

I think we definitely want Perry, Chandler and Noah on the team. Not necessarily as starters ( great if they can) but as role players.
The way at least Noah and Perry can shoot, I see them contributing off the bench significantly next year. Either of them could be hot from 3 and extend their playing time in a game.
Pope will likely recruit over them if there is a talent we need. However, If anyone can help guys accept specific roles it's Pope.

Kinda jumping the gun on Lewis aren't ya? We don't know how he's gonna be. I for one think he's gonna be a good player here.

Now, the others we can agree on.
We always have these so called experts telling our coaches they need to recruit this kid or that or replace this kid. Easy to say from the couch.

We honestly don’t know how many recruits are going to be homeruns. Outside of a few each year, it’s a wildcard. There are a bunch of Burger Boys & 5 Stars who struggle their first year.

I certainly agree that we shouldn't count on any of those guys to be starters or the 1st guy off the bench. Right off the top of my head I can think of 3 guys that would be better next year than the 3 freshmen Noah, Perry, and Chandler:
sophomores Noah, Perry, and Chandler.

Jasper Johnson did not come here to not log major minutes if not be starter. And he is being compensated for it with that expectation.

He is also far far better than either Noah or Perry.

I do not think so either. I read on here(?) last week that the offer was up to over 3 million-from UK. Does that mean collective, Crafts etc. I don't know. Or, is it even true?
Hope it is not true. How can you give him 3 times what Johnson is getting and expect them to be good team mates? Nil will cause nothing but problems

The portal won't have the quality or depth it had last year.
If you don't get one of the top 5 at any position, it will be a big drop off after that.
I guarantee you there won't be 5 centers in the portal better than Garrison.
This is further complicated by the way Pope wants to use a center
A 5 who's just a rim runner will not cut it unless Pope modified his offense for a player like that

Who said anything about running them off? Did you think Pitino was running off Wayne Turner, Allen Edwards, Jeff Sheppard, Scott Padgett or Nazr Mohammed when they played smaller roles early in their Kentucky careers?

Think bigger. This is not so black and white. There's a middle area called "development* and that's precisely where Chandler, Perry, and Noah need to be next year - in the development space of the roster rotation.

I don't think Pope wanted to play our freshman ss much as we have but injuries got us.I want Pope to hit the Portal and get the best players we can get. Focus on our needs first. Then you can recruit over someone else if that luxury presents itself.
