I read here a lot and realize I might get killed for this, but here I go anyway.
The #1 problem with our defense this past year was our lack of offense. This was very evident vs.Auburn, LSU, and UA. We played toe to toe with everybody until late in the 3rd quarter then we just wore out. I dont think we quit, we just were spent.
Now, this being said, I think our defense was well coached, and our schemes well concieved and executed. What about asking our new coach, (hopefully an offensive genius, the kind that can turn chicken@#$& into chicken salad), to take a long hard look at Harbison as DC.
I dont think this would be a bad move if he would come back. Put it this way, we won four games with a top 50 defense and a bottom 10 offense. Would have hed a top 20 defense with a top 50 offense, this translates into 8 wins in my book.

Well everything up until the blue had a little merit (just a little).....hope you realize that coach cheese is now by Clemson as a DB's Coach.....so i say it is safe to say that he will not be back as DC

Against the good teams, it wasn't just lack of offense that killed us. Our defense just wasn't as good as it has been in past years. And on top of that, it didn't generate many turnovers at all (I'm not talking about turnovers for touchdowns, we just didn't get many turnovers period).

We were a pretty solid Defense, but not really a playmaking defense or a difference maker. The defense kept us in some games surely but didn't really win 'em. Not sure I put that on Cheese or not. I think our new Coach should start with a clean slate (except for maybe a few recruiting holdovers like Bag).

Budweisergate hurt us. We had a moderate dropoff in talent. The defense was OK but not as good as years past. Not Cheese's fault.

But Croom's better defense's faded after a few quarters of anemic bulldog offense. Hard to understand why a lot of people don't get that offense and defense are somewhat interdependent.

I agree, too often pundits don't consider the lack of productivity on offense when judging a defense. There was a corndog on ESPN radio the other evening railing on Les Miles for promoting from within last year when he needed a defensive coordinator. The conversation was around the fact that LSU's defensive line was all "Sunday" type players, yet the defense under performed, squarely blaming the D.C. After they beat up the D.C. for a few more minutes and Miles for making the choice they segued into the QB and the fact that he turned the ball over too often. Radio guy even made this statement that "LSU had the most anemic passing game in the conference with the exception of Mississippi State". Never once did they think, hey maybe that poor offense may contribute to our defensive woes.
