Hard to believe this is only the 20th game vs Vandy

all time. Boy have missed some opportunities to pad our SEC w/l record over the years. Of course, this doesn't apply to this year, as Vandy is expecting to pad their w/l record with us.

Yeah, it is interesting that we have played Alabama, LSU, and Auburn approximately 90 times a piece but played Vandy and UK approximately 20 times. Where as OM and Bama (just to name two in close proximity) have played Vandy over 80 times a piece. We have been getting the shaft for years.

....and most of the people on this board, myself included, were not alive the last time MSU beat Georgia.

the old 'rotation' of SEC east and west teams had 2 teams from each opposing conference on the schedule every year and just rotated out the rest?

when the SEC expanded. What many people don't realize is that we had successfully lobbied the SEC to let us drop Alabama as a permanent opponent and replace them with Kentucky. Then, just our luck, the year we were supposed to finally drop Alabama was the year the SEC added Arkansas and South Carolina and split into divisions, so Alabama never actually dropped off the schedule.</p>

Schools just played whoever they felt like playing and could schedule games with. By the 1980's the SEC settled into a rotation where each school had 5 permanent opponents and played the other 4 twice every 8 years (our permanent opponents were UM, LSU, Bama, Auburn & Florida). Then when the SEC expanded in 1992, we had two permanent opponents from the East (UK & USC). Then a few years ago, they dropped us to just one permanent East opponent (UK).

From 1943 until 1980 the only times we played Vandy was one 4-game series from 1970 to 1973. Similarly, we only played Kentucky 7 times before 1972.

But prior to then, the only time Vaught had played them was the 1964 Sugar Bowl. Their regular SEC opponents back then were MSU, LSU, UT, UK, and Vandy. That's about as easy as an SEC schedule can get.

....Georgia Tech never played a conference game against MSU or Ole Miss while they were still in the SEC.
