Has any SEC basketball coach ever been fired after having a winning SEC record?

That's SOOOOO analogous to our situation. Besides, they hired an abject failure in Gillespie, and then ponied up big-time ($ 4mm) for successful coach, with a, ahem, checkered past.

Say you fire Stansbury. Then what? I'd say the chances of making the wrong hire are greater than making the right one.

Gillispie was 20-12 in the SEC....

I think your question goes to a bigger issue though- the SEC traditionally hasnt given a **** about basketball. Before 1990, did anybody besides Kentucky win a national title? Thats90 years of basketball. Expectations of now and then are as different as night and day.

Basketball is a sport in which we could become nationally known. Hell, West Virginia is a top 5 team. I dont want to hear about recruiting kids to Starkville. It can be done. Butler is building a top program. Smaller schools can compete with bigger schools because it doesnt take as much money nor as many players.

This ridiculous attitude of "State is doing the best it can do" is just that- ridiculous

on his wife with his secretary, and then his secretary caught him cheating on her with another woman. They had a big fight, and Wimp punched, smacked, or somehow hit the secretary. Bammer paid her off and told Wimp thanks for the memories.

The question should have read: Has any coach ever been fired after having a winning season in conference games?

Scandals don't count.

you fire Stansbury after this season...I think he will provide enough ammunition next season by missing the Tourney again.

As I posted yesterday, the trend we are on is disturbing:

<div class="scrolling"><div>2006- rebuilding year, but still only managed a 15-15 record with an embarrassingly easy schedule...transfers

2007- NIT due to bad OOC losses and weak scheduling...more transfers

2008- lower NCAA seed than should have been due to bad OOC losses and weak scheduling...more transfers

2009- bad OOC losses and weak scheduling overcome by winning the SEC Tourney in a down year for the SEC. While he should get credit for winning the Tourney, it also is just a bandaid for whats happening in the program.

2010- bad OOC losses and 4-4 in conference play during the easy half of the SEC schedule. Players calling out the coach to the media. Classic underachievement
