Has anyone heard Manchester must forfeit due to Covid?!

Sounds like it is accurate. Hatfield just retweeted it. His info is spot on usually

I know zero details about this specific scenario, but I’m surprised there aren’t more issues like this right after schools got back from spring break.

Imagine those coaches meeting with the team today after practice. Seniors gearing up to play one of the most challenging teams in the state and then you have to digest the fact you have to turn in your equipment one final time. I recognize football is not life and death, but this is a tough pill to swallow nonetheless.

Having spoken to one of the asst coaches,it wasn’t an option. Same thing happened to King William last week. I feel bad for the seniors. I hope nothing but the best for those that tested positive.
Pretty sure they will be fine.

It is all over twitter - so yes HSHS has been declared the Class 5B Champion. That is Manchester's swan song in Class 5.

What causes this (King William/Manchester situations specifically)? It’s not like schools are doing team-wide testing. Kids just come down with it? Does just one positive test on the team cause the forfeit? Just interested in the details.

I was told Manchester had multiple positives. I’m not sure how they test, but just 1 can shut things down. KW had 4 positives I was told by a player’s father(I can’t confirm). Again...I don’t know how they test, but I know they check temps before every practice and anyone with a fever is tested. Other than that,I’m not sure if it’s random tests or not.

No, I know but.... it just stinks. I would just like to see it where they only sit kids that actually test positive. If the others test negative then I think we should be good to go. I realize I am a minority on this but it is just how I feel. HSHS gotta really represent now and bring home that trophy 🏆.

In a game down here between Jamestown /Smithfield, Jamestown forfeited to covid because a players mother tested positive and that was enough to shut it all down. I agree, test all players snd go with those that are negative. Do not shut it all down. Overkill.

99% survival rate :) :) :)
Considering the players had to get on and off the bus three times Friday night, the coach announced there is no way to tell who the player or players came in contact with, and contact tracing requires those players to be quarantined for a certain amount of time. The survival rate is immaterial when you have rules you have to abide by. It’s a tough break for everybody, but this is the life we live in now.

The rules in this state have been fairly anal from the beginning rather than practical. That’s why many businesses here in Williamsburg are out business and our lives so finely controlled.

From what I understand, that is what happened to Patriot. They has several kids out, i think, vs Garfield. But they still played & won!

The difference here is contact tracing. They were loaded on the bus three times in no particular order so the coach cannot confirm who the player or players was in contact with

Dang. Sucks when that little extra logistics prep could have maybe made the difference in playing or not. But I don’t want to sound like I’m blaming the coach either. Just a really rough situation.

And people still do not question a thing about it. Just "follow the rules"...and still get screwed. We've lost something like a dozen small businesses along the Pike here in Arlington over the last year.
