Trump gets off the phone with Putin? Exactly what is going on here? Are there any conspiracy theorists out there who say that Trump is really just secretly plotting with Putin on defeating Ukraine, letting him know there will be no consequences? Just whose side is Trump on? Serious question here.

I believe Putin knows the right buttons to push. There is a long history of Trump Russia connections. Just do a search

IMHO, Putin has been playing Trump for a long time... Pretending to suck up to him while doing everything he can against US interests. And it's worked up until this point as Trump has repeatedly supported Putin and Russia over NATO/Ukraine. And don't get me wrong, I don't give a **** about Ukraine in general. They've a LOT more in common with Russia than they do with us. But Russia is an enemy country. You can tell by the nuclear weapons we have pointed at each other.

IMHO, Trump over promised on his America first campaign promises with saying how he could stop this war even before he got into office. His MAGA folks HONESTLY believed that he could just say "Knock it off." And that would be that. Now he's telling his supporters that "Who knew this would be so complicated?" Short answer: EVERYONE KNEW, except Trump and his supporters that took his word for it.

Putin is going to do what he thinks is best for Russia. And right now, that doesn't include giving up after 3 years of war. I don't think he can. That would make him look week. You can survive in Russia by dong some crazy things, but if you look weak, then you are going to fall out a window of a high rise in short order.

Anyway, the shine is starting to come off of the Putin/Trump bromance and honestly, I don't give a **** how Trump got there. He's starting to turn on Putin and the sooner Trump starts treating Putin as the enemy he is, the better for the county. I don't have a problem with negotiating with Russia, doing trade deals, and generally working toward a better relationship. All those are good things. But you have to realize that they are NOT our friends and work every day against our interests. Just like China.

"What raised further concern was the head-scratching 50-day grace period Trump is offering Vladimir Putin, especially in light of reports that Putin recently told Trump he needed 60 days to complete a major military escalation in Ukraine’s east. According to Axios, Putin said he planned to intensify operations to seize full control of the four partially occupied Ukrainian regions: Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson."

I think if we were talking we would be close to being in alignment. Lots in what you are saying, i agree with.

But, no. not every trump supporter believed that Trump could end the ukraine war on day one, but at least we knew that he wanted to end it as quickly as he could, and that he at least recognized that the war was/is costing the US Taxpayer and draining military supplies. Maybe Trump thought that he could get putin to stop, but after 4 years of the previoius admin limping the war along and allowing both sides to dig in (literally and figuratively) that objectively was not likely.

The best and quickest way for the war to end would have been if Trump could have gotten Putin to agree to a ceasefire and negotiate. Trump has leveraged personal relationships in the past to make deals so that was what he was intending to do, IMHO. Obviously it hasn't worked so far. It would have had no chance if Trump would have started off demonizing putin and calling for regime change in russia (which the dems and joe biden did. At the same time, he had to get an unwilling zelenskyy to start to think about a negotiated settlement as opposed to him clinging for a restoration of all territory to include crimea which was lost over a decade ago.

At the same time if Trump would have come in hard with statements of never endind support for ukraine forever and ever amen, then what incentive would NATO have had to start spending on their own defense as opposed to letting you and me and our kids do it for them? The answer is, none. I think he has done a good job in a short period of time trying to play all ends towards the middle.

It's been messy but we're now at the point where I believe zelenskyy has had time to fully realize that he's not getting Crimea back. Europe is now getting off of their collective asses and increasingly putting their money towards their own defense ... which includes helping Ukraine. Trump has given the carrot the old college try with Russia and its not been successful so now he's going to have to change his tack. I don't think that anyone should be super suprised.

As far as enemies and threats to the USA go, Russia is 4th on the list. China, Iran, North Korea are all befor Russia. Russia has a bunch of nukes but they just like we are are on board with MAD. We can co-exist with russia and they / putin are rational actors.
