recently, of any plans for stadium improvements, expansion, or development? Just checking since another university just recently announced theirs.

It’s going to be interesting to see what ideas come from OM’s solicitation. It’s an interesting idea, but I think the timing is not in their favor. The ROI projections took a big hit before the RFP even hit the street due to Kiffin bailing. There is a high likelyhood that OM’s W/L record and fan excitement fall off a cliff next year.

They are so freaking lucky when it comes to scheduling. ***

Got an email yesterday saying the Comfort Suites/Russell Inn & Suites was officially closed but big things coming. No idea if that ties into some sort of development plan or not.

Closing? Isn't the Comfort Inn fairly new? We stayed there once, must have been '17 or '18 and it was memorable because there was a fire alarm and we had to wait a while for it to be cleared before we could check in.

Hard to tell, but are they turning the hotel building into something else?

If they'd keep their rates reasonable, especially for football weekends, that joint would be packed all the time. Anything over $200 a football night will never see the inside of my billfold. Non big sports weekends and weekdays should be around $100-150 per night.

What the other university announced is pretty much the same thing we announced earlier this year and will have completed long before theirs is done.
I much prefer ours too. Cotton District to campus integration is exactly what is needed in our case.

I can't imagine the mess on game day that their new spot is going to be with their already overcrowded and cramped campus. It's going to be a spot that everyone who knows what they are doing avoids at all costs.

The google machine says it opened in 2000 but had major renovations in 2009. I know I stayed there only once circa 2011 and the interior definitely seemed new at that time. But haven’t been back since.

Maybe their development will turn out to look like shít like their stadium expansion that they hurriedly did to “one up” State’s.
Additional color...their location for their project is really bad. Their campus is already cluttered and it's going to be navigational nightmare. They've already hamstrung their ability to make major expansions to their stadium by how they built the basketball arena, but this is doubling down on that.

I think it is packed, especially football weekends. The closing is related to a development, not the performance of the hotel. I get that $200 a night sucks for Starkville but it’s impossible to get a hotel room during a football weekends, so I think that is just market.

Yeah, only the very wealthy get the good rooms closest to campus. Most of my out-of-town friends and I normally stay in Columbus, Tupelo, W. Point, etc. for the big football weekends.

Its been there since at least 01 that I know of. If what I have been told is correct, the university owns that hotel now so Im guessing they are going to renovate it or possibly tear it down. The overall plan is to have multiple alumni type hotels that will be on University Drive from the corner of Col Muldrow going into campus. If the rumors are true the Bank First building on Russell Street is being acquired by the university as well, so that whole corner between Muldrow, University, Russell and 12 will be a hotel/convention/meeting spot.

nm, been answered.

I will say this thing is more than a "vision and plan" as they have been whaling away on it and ain't messing around. Had those 3 old buildings coming on to campus down in the blink of an eye and would be surprised if the Comfort Suites isn't gone by the first of the year. Big hole dug for the underground parking and temporary power up and restrung/routed in what seems like a week.
If it ends up looking like the renderings it will be spectacular. Really like the architecture of the Grant library along with the pond. Finally cleans up that corner and super cool to have an honest to goodness presidential library sitting there.

I've seen some complaints about HWY 12 and I always thought it was a feature, not a bug. Daughter went to UK and every time I went there (and most other campuses) I thought glad State has that buffer and all of this shlt isn't run right up to our campus. Add in you can just about see row crops to the north and live stock to the south from campus (as it should be for any self respecting "A&M college") and the campus is nicely isolated while this development makes a tasteful connection to the CD and Starkville. All in all , pretty neat and look forward to seeing the final product.

I hear they’re planning to renovate it and re-brand it under a new name, “The Battery”.

Your right. I never have and never will. I actually enjoy staying in Columbus or Tupelo better anyway.
