Has it come to this? Is RU really the doormat of the B1G ?

Maryland, Indiana, Illinois and Purdue are the doormats. RU is one small step above.

Purdue put up 55 points to beat Nebraska today.

Who here really believes that we can put up 55 points against Nebraska?

My original prediction for this season after the WSU loss still stands: We beat Army. We have about half a chance of beating Maryland. That's it, folks. Five wins, max.

yes we're bottom feeders...all talk no action from anybody in this school, alumni base, home state talent and especially the media. For all the talk of NJ pride, there really is none...a state without an identity and i thought someday Rutgers could be that force but it appears it never will. Our alumni base just doesn't care enough ( the rich bastards that could actually make a difference).

Rutgers is no where near the top level talent. But it is solidly within the logjam of the middle pack Big 10 teams. Rutgers, indiana, illinois, Minnesota, northwestern, maryland, recently seems Nebraska is in this group, and most years Iowa too. Those teams will shuffle year to year. Indiana is only one consistently at bottom. Rutgers will fairly consistently fluctuate between 5-7 and
7-5 until someone comes in and does something radical to take us to next level.

There are a lot of doormats in the Big Ten. Last year we were a step above the doormats. This year we're a doormat.

Worse display of football since the Shea era. Yes, we are the worse in the B1G. If we wanted to compete we should have been in the ACC. But we went for the money.

We're definitely doormats. Not the only doormats, but all of us are neck in neck. I used to think Pudue was a step below, but they showed some sign of life today and could theoretically beat a fellow doormat.

That's okay. We can't all be world beaters. Every conference needs to clean the crap off their boots on something.

um wrong...Iowa? Northwestern? sorry but they are in another tier. Rutgers sits with the bottom feeders, did you miss our game against Indiana, we won in the last minute in a horribly played game..two bad teams just about even. Nebraska may temporarily be down but its not even close here they will move back up

reality is that RU fans have ALWAYS overrated our placement in whatever league we were in. Talent wise we can win games in the Big 10 but not with this coaching staff

When was the last time Purdue won 8 games like we did last year?

2001 and 2012 they made bowls going 7-6 and 6-7

2006 and 2007 they were 8-5 and 8-6.

2003 they were in the Rose Bowl

from 1997-2004 they went to 8 straight bowls

I would say in general Purdue is similar to what Rutgers has done although they seemed to have hit the skids the last 5-8 years overall.

While schools like Indiana, Purdue, Illinois and Minnesota may not be all that great of programs there seems to be an assumption on this board that these will be automatic wins...lets see next year.

I don't believe we have the talent to open up the play book and this makes us predictable. But instead of talking about what's wrong I want to talk about what might turn things around. We need the university, state whomever to open up the wallet and hire a decent HC and Assistants. Then we need to recruit a little better. We honestly did not get the recruiting bump we expected after joining the B10.

See post about the Massey ratings. I didn't say we are having a good year this year. The ratings support my statement. It is so supported by the fact the elite teams destroy us, but we are competitive with the others. I said we were far from the elites. Worrying that we are a doormat (which implies to me consistently last place over time) is way to premature.

I don't think it's a secret that we're not putting up points, nor is it a secret that the reason we're not putting up points is because our offense is one-dimensional.

But see, that's the thing that's illogical. Ben McDaniels absolutely knows that his offense moves to an entirely different level if it's well executed by someone with Rettig's physical abilities. This suggests to me that there must be something wrong with Hayden Rettig that we just don't know about.

I think it's more accurate to say that Fludd didn't take advantage of the recruiting bump. GS left him a top 25 class, excitement and expectations were high...Fludd actually put together a very solid class after that but then the games began...that class fell apart and it's been downhill every since. The excitement was there, the Fludd hiring squandered it. I blame Pernetti for that just as much as Fludd.

Some or fans are really delusional, honestly we probably are on par with Indiana, Purdue, and Illinois...Purdue and Illinois both played Nebraska close, Maryland is better than us right now. So many people think that we are just going to beat Maryland, they are playing better than us, we will most likely loose that game. We've done nothing this season to indicate we can easily beat them.

Five wins? That is wildly optimistic after the last two games. Rutgers would be demolished by Temple and UConn this season. Three wins this year, and that is it. And yet Flood will be retained. Somehow.

you lost any credibility when you said UCONN would demolish us.

This year mirrors last year....big losses to the top teams and competitive against everyone else. Let's not forget the MSU game. I'm very curious to see how the team responds next week with Caroo back and a home game against a struggling Nebraska team. If they win, a bowl bid and 6 wins should come down to the home finale against Maryland.

That's NOT doormat status.

let me ask....did you say the say thing last year after the 3 game stretch against OSU, Nebraska and Wisconsin?

The team is struggling with the youngest secondary in the entire country and Flood is not the answer because he stubbornly sticks with Laviano.

answer..yes, and after Kent State..
I agree with your comment. BUT it is not just that. Our special teams continues to be a anchor pulling us down (and he stubbornly sticks with Federico) and the play calling is inconsistent and the running back rotation and tackling is poor and I could go on.

I can't agree with this. We beat Indiana but barely, and it was a an improbable comeback. We almost beat MSU, but let's be real here... Indiana plays tough against conference teams as well. They definitely play OSU better than we do.

I just have this sinking feeling like we are slowly spiraling into the abyss of the college football world again. It took us decades to climb out of this once and I don't think I can go through that again in my lifetime. Because I don't think I'll have the time on this earth or the patience. I fear by time this administration wakes up and tries to do something it will be far to late again. They simply didn't learn the first time and are doomed to fail again. We will take our place next to the Vanderbilts, Kansas, Wake Forest and Syracuses of the P5 world. Never to be heard from again and the butt of everyone's joke. We are in a very precarious spot right now and I fear our leaders will doom us to failure.

What if we are currently the doormats of the B1G or for the next 5, 10, or even 20 years. Look at Northwestern, they were doormats for decades, hired the right coach and BAM in 1995 they made it to the Rose Bowl. Stop thinking about yourselves, you may never see Rutgers compete for B1G titles in your lifetime, but the fact that we are in the B1G means that perhaps one day in the future you children, or their children will see Rutgers in the Rose Bowl. When we are getting our *** kicked right now, just put a smile on your face and comfort yourself knowing that 20-25 years from now the shoe might just be on the other foot. Cheer up and think long term.
