Has Kirby ever coached a game from the floor for us?

Not a full game but when Stans got tossed against that school up north in like 03 I think. Kirby finished the game.

Maybe we can get the Ninja to airlift Stan Jones in on a chopper right before tipoff.

I'm not suggesting that Stans is going anywhere, but his in-game coaching skills have been questioned (and cursed) before. Regardless, he wins a lot of games, pretty consistently. I just wonder if Kirby is a better floor coach.

Stansbury lost his cool quick because Ole Miss just came out in full thug mode. Hammering and grabbing us worse than a pick up game at McKee park and the refs did nothing. Ole Miss was up by around 15 with around 10 minutes to go in the 1st half and Stans went berserk. The crowd got into it and State won by like 20.

And that was the Karl Hess game. From what I remember, Hess gave Stans a T in the first two minutes of the game, which I thought was odd. Then as you said Ole Miss was up by 10 and then Timmy Bowers got hit across the face by someone for Ole Miss and went down, and there was no call. Stans went out to check out on Bowers and got another T and then went off. I thought he was going to kick Hess's ***. Hess ran off like a little ***** and Bobby Tomlinson held Stans back while he made the choke symbol at Hess.

We then went off as a team and beat Ole Miss by 20 or so.

Stans came down to talk to Jack and told him that when he got ejected he had to go find a TV to watch it. So he goes down and walks into Polk's office to watch the game. Polk told him to relax, because he get kicked out all the time. "Jack I had to watch the game in Polks office with all that cigar smoke.....and you know Jack that this is a smoke free facility." Jack pauses for a second....."Oh really?" You could hear everyone in the room rolling.

Wow, guys...wow. It doesn't matter!! Stansbury legitimately sucks as a head coach, he let Scotty Hobson walk away from us, he doesn't understand the value of man-to-man defense. In the waning minutes of a close game, I've never seen anyone as coach of good talent choke as much as he does. I hope he doesn't make it to Cincy. It's not like we can win with him on the floor. Kirby gives us a better chance. If Byrne really wants my respect, he'll be quick to fire Stansbury. The winningest coach in MSU basketball history absolutely carries no weight in this case. We'll never see the sweet 16 with this voiceless coach leading the charge.

How many times have we won the SEC West and gone to the postseason with Stansbury?

For a few years, he was easily the best coach on campus. We'll get to the Sweet 16 when we don't have to play Duke, Texas at Dallas, and Memphis. And we were more than respectable in all of those games listed.

You say "best coach on campus" as if you're trying to impress me. hilarious. He can recruit decently. That's the ONLY reason we ever win west division titles. It's certainly not because of his coaching ability. Aside from his moderately decent inbounds plays, he sucks. Any person who has a post junior varsity understanding of the game will tell you that much. Believe me, I don't care who we're up against. we'll never see the sweet 16 with him. It's science.

It happens. But, it is horrible for a ref. He was probably technically correct on both of the T's. But, Hess was absolutely enraged. I was seriously concerned about a full scale riot in that game.

I really thought that an all out brawl was going to break out if the refs did not get it under control. Rod Barnes had no talent on his team and they resorted to Piston ball to try and stay in it. It was eighty feet of hand checking by the Ole Miss guards followed by prison rape in the lane until Stans got T'ed up.

P.S. I am not taking the bait from the nitwit bashing Stans.

first give us this tidbit

Stansbury legitimately sucks as a head coach, he let Scotty Hobson walk away from us,
and then follow it up in a subsequent post with

He can recruit decently. That's the ONLY reason we ever win west division titles.
so, losing Hobson makes him suck as a head coach yet you quickly admit he continues to recruit well enough to win west division titles? and this recruiting is the ONLY reason why we win those titles.

you sound like a smart fella

since he's been here we are the second-most winning basketball program in the SEC, second only to Tennessee.

I usually refrain from making personal attacks against people on message boards because it's pointless, but you're a 17ing idiot. As long as I'm at it I'll break another rule, too...it's HoPson, *****.

Could be dreaming this, but I think he gave Hess the Choke sign and was suspended the next game against South Carolina.

doesnt understand the value? WTF does that even mean?...he plays man D all the damn time. he plays zone too, but he has shown he is more than willing to go man to man on D for entire games at a time.

He pretty much got a slap on the wrist from the SEC, but no suspension.

And Carl Hess has a history of a short temper and quick whistle for techs.

Again, all of you fail to read each word. "Decently" means "yeah, he's good at recruiting for the most part. "Excellent" means he could hold on to HoPson. The MSU basketball standard which Williams set in the late 90's was great, now we have a shot of becoming a perennial power....but, to do that, you have to go consistently farther in the ncaa tournament than we do. And, yeah, Sucksbury stays with the zone much longer than he should in a game while better shooting teams continue to pick us apart. Oh yeah, I coach a high school basketball team in alabama. What's it all worth if we continue to bow out quickly when we're pinned against quality opponents from other parts of the country. No way we beat Cincy.

A) we got outbid for Hopson. You can only throw so much money at a player

B) He is a good recruiter and an average coach. Thats pretty well accepted.

C) He is going to be the coach until at least 2010. We will probably miss the Dance this year, and with that meaning only one NCAA Tourney appearance the last 4 years, Byrne will have his job on the line next year. Not much more we can ask for as a fanbase

I was thinking that was when Winsome and Shane Power and Roberts were at State. May be wrong, but it seems like it was just a couple of years ago. Doesn't matter, but I remember beating them at home then Winsome breaking his foot the next game with them at OM. I haven't seen Stansbury that upset since then.

Thank you, Coach34. You are now the only person on here I respect. And, for the rest of you, there's a growing MSU alum contingency wanting to see Sucksbury gone. Whether you blind die-hards realize or not. It's well substantiated, too. He gets outcoached far too often.

taking up for stans.

also, new guy, i didn't realize that holding onto one great player made a recruiter great. maybe stans should just go after the top 10 guys in the country every year. that would be a much better strategy then what he does now.

Are you being serious right now?? It's hard to tell. Yes, you absolutely pursue the top 10 recruits in the nation every year. And, if by some chance, one commits to you, you hold on to him with the grips of death. Didn't realize that was such a hard concept for deer hunters to understand.

We should over look that small tid-bit of information because in a discussion of coaches and their respective sport, it doesn't matter.

I value your opinion.
