Has marist made it impossible to create a top ten

Here's my question with Marist:
Does it support or undermine the 8 class system?

Support: With the unbalanced nature of scheduling, 5 win teams (particularly from strong conferences) can still be worthy opponents and deserve inclusion in the playoffs (especially when you let in 9 win teams who have played weak schedules).

Undermine: Eight classes has weakened the classes and drawn talent across classes so thin that reaching the finals isn't necessarily an indication of your team's relative strength.

@Snetsrak61 has a valid point. Does the 8 class playoff undermine everything?

I firmly believe that in a 1-32 6 class system, the finals in most classes look markedly different, and more accurate. With that said, Montini won one title on a 5-4 season, so I can't complain, but did they deserve to make the playoffs? Not so sure...

As of now I am just ranking 7 teams: Naz, Montini, Lville, GW, LA, HF, Palatine (cause they beat OP, BR, lost by 2 to LA last 3 games of year)

Fenwick played Phillips (with Amani Jones), Loyola and Montini this season. I feel very comfortable in saying that Phillips could play with any of them. That being said, Phillips and Althoff should be a very competitive game. In my opinion Phillips is easily a top ten team this season.

What is your thinking on CG and HF. CG's loss to GW better than HF's to Loyola?
I'm along the lines of
1. LA
2. GW
3. Libertyville
4. Montini
5. Naz
6. Phillips
7. HF
8. Marist
9. CG
10. PR

After this weekend Marist will have 5 losses. How do you make it into the top 10 with fives losses?
you're right maybe they just shouldn't play the 8A game. Of their 5 losses they were all to pretty good teams. Loyola, Naz, JCA, Mt Carmel, Benet

Yeah it's hard to put them in my top 10 with that many loses but at the end of the day regardless on how they got there they made it to the dance and 30 other teams didn't.And that game hasn't been played yet for you to already put another loss on them.

IF Marist loses (remember they have to play the game still) they would have at least 1 of those 5 losses to a State champ possibly two state champs if Naz wins. Their other 3 losses are to other playoff teams. Not to mention the fact that they made it to the championship. I am of the school of thought that the top 8 teams should all be teams playing this weekend and the 9th and 10th could be a toss up.

It's hard to not put a finalist in the top 10 no matter what their record ends up being after this weekend.

Phillips needs to to win 4A and we can evaluate. That means u must have Altoff in top 10 if u have Phillips there and they beat them finishing 14-0.

First, the talk about Marist and whether they belong, in the past 4 weeks, they've beaten an 8-1 #28, a 9-1 #29, a 9-2 #38, an 8-4 #22 ... I think they might be pretty good.

And if 6 classes are better than 8, it also means 5 classes are better than 6 . . .

I don't think Palatine thinks their route was too watered down, they got #58, #21, #14 and #1 in their path.

I'm pretty content with this system for the moment. The next step is to get real seeding in place and get the 9-0 CPS teams out of those top seeds, ie: use playoff points to get in to the playoffs, but use real rankings when seeding the brackets.

This game will come down to the wire. Most assumptions about blowouts turn out to be nail biters. Marist would have been undefeated in some other conferences. They will play aggressive with no fear. I expect a 3 point win but not sure who gets it. Easy to say Loyola but close games can go either way.

I guess it depends on how you rate teams, who goes the farthest or who is the better team? MC JCA beat Marist and have a lot less loses. Phillips? How many ESCC, DVC or CCL teams sitting at home could easily beat Phillips?

JCA beat two teams in everyone's top yet not ranked?...think they have to be in.

JCA had a 31-0 lead against Naz and went 1-1 with them; JCA beat Marist just a few weeks ago...not much separates the three teams... have to have them in.

Phillips needs a passing game also to have a chance....I don't see a passing game.

Based on what I am seeing, very few, if any. Phillips is good.

I would say the 8A title game makes the question of whether or not to rank Marist in the top 10 fairly obvious.
