Has this 5 game stretch been some of Stans best coaching?

First, I'll be honest and say I've been a Stans critic for quite some time, but since the San Diego loss, it seems like Stansbury decided to give the team an identity instead of whatever the heck he was doing. He's letting them run. He's letting them play to their strengths. He's not doing those ridiculous substitution patterns. whatever happens the rest of this game, I'm very impressed with the coaching he's done against some solid opponents over the past few games... I never thought I'd say that.

...gang made the run in the SECT & won it.

What I like is Bost has all the potential in the world, yet he seems coachable.

Unlike J. Gordon who had all the potential in the world, but was virtually uncoachable.

He looked very coachable tonight. I thought he was controlled, unlike J-Money. I think he also has better range and sees the court better.

with Jamont gone the other plays have the opportunity to step it up. If he was still around, Ravern, Phil, Barry don't get near as many shot attempts.

This is a better team without him.

This is probably the best group of shooters that weve had in a while as well. Bost, Barry, Phil, Ravern, and Riley can hit 3's with regularity, and Osby can hit 3's pretty well. Barry Ravern and Dee all have a great mid range game, and Ravern and Dee have started driving to the basket for some layups frequently now. When Jarvis is on he has one of the better hook shots in college. Elgin is getting a little better and shoots his free throws alot better. We can hit free throws alot better now, and its really helping us late in games with us having 7 to 10 point leads instead of 2 to 5 point leads. When this team is on, we are a top 3 SEC team, maybe even the best SEC team. Got alot of things to look forward to if we can continue to shoot as well as we have been.

One thing to note is that this team is doing a horrible job at defensive rebounding. State should have had about a 10 point lead at the half but since we couldn't keep Vandy off of the offensive boards, they were close. We really miss Charles for his rebounding because having Phil Turner in there at the 4 leaves us more vulnerable for those second chance points.

Cant argue with that. Vandy had us outrebounded by 8 at the half and we only had a lead cuz they turned the ball over a whole bunch. We face some fo the better teams like Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee and we get outrebounded that bad, there is a good chance we will lose. The 4 guard lineup is working great, but we give up so much in the post that teams have been killing us on 2nd chance points. Gotta hope we can figure out a way to get more active in the paint on defensive rebounds so we dont give up easy putbacks like we have been.

Now all we need to do is hope that Kodi get his head out of his *** and plays some defense. If he can do that, it's a big plus for us, if he doesn't, we don't really need him anyway.

I hope he takes the Charles Rhodes route and becomes a good player for us.

we aren't going to rebound as well playing this small so it shouldn't surprise anyone when bigger teams outrebound us. BUT, we have a VERY quick lineup on the floor and that was a BIG reason Vandy had the number of turnovers they did. We looked to be in a different gear than Vandy for a lot of the game. This team is going to give up some offensive rebounding to opposing teams but our quickness and fast hands are also going to force teams into turning the ball over as well. The main reason I like the smaller lineup is that the lane is getting opened up for drives because folks are scared of our 3 point shooting (allows Bost to do his thing) AND with this lineup we should be a much better free throw shooting team over the long haul.

I agree. Phil has actually done a pretty good job rebounding, and he gets in great position sometime. And he played some awesome defense against Green on Wednesday against Bama when he was completely outsized by about 9 inches. Bost just comes out in the 2nd half and decides its time to make things happen and he drives the lane a couple of times and gets baskets or gets free throws and it calms the team down. Free throw shooting has kept us ahead in these SEC games and we need that when we play the upper echelon SEC teams. Ive been very impressed with how weve been able to create our own shots and not take some bad shots like we were earlier this year. This team just flows right now, and they dont mind giving the ball up to someone else with a better shot. I love the makeup of this team right now. They look solid.</p>

goes through the defense for an easy bucket. He looks much faster than Jamont, and is under control when he runs through the defense. I use to hate the way Jamont would be so out of control. So far I think Bost makes this team go. He does so many things well to be a frosh. I agree that we play better as a team this year.

He has much better court vision, and he drives to the basket with a purpose that says forget you im taking it whether you want me to or not. Hes under control, and he doesnt just randomly try and make it happen. If its not there he pulls back, and if it is, he goes as hard as he can without being out of control. He makes great decisions, and I love how he always keeps his head on a swivel, just looking for the next pass or the next opening. Hes definately not playing like a freshman. I think if he keeps playing like he is then he is deserving of freshman all american.

Playing 4 guards - you are not going to have big rebounding numbers.

Last night we were doing what a small team must do - send everyone to the boards defensively and rely on superior speed for a break (if its there) - cuts down rebounding advantage on other team. Also, we force more turnovers which we must do. Offensively, we take more chances going for the rebound and open some break opportunities against us. Our speed and ability to get back reduces those opportunities but they are there.

I'm not so sure I would claim this team as better at this point of the season. They are playing well, but there is a lot of basketball left to play.

I am not saying this team is better than last years. I am saying this team, this year, is better with Bost instead of Jamont. If Jamont was back, it would last year's game minus Chuck. It would be Jamoney handling the ball 80% of the time, pass it around the 3pt line, back to Jamoney for a forced shot in the lane or flat shot from 25ft.
