Has this been discussed? Future OOC opponents for all SEC football teams?

I see it's old, but I don't remember seeing it. It's interesting. What do y'all think of your OOC schedule coming up? I think it's good for a rebuilding program to have only easy wins, but it's sure nice when paying for tickets to have a good game on there.

At least you won't pull an OM and have every team have the best two years in their school history like we do when we play them.

It will be worse than the Vandy games when Bama has half the stadium. There will be Bama fans who can't get a ticket because the place is so small.

a decent OOC team right now. Maybe a couple years down the road, pick some up. We need wins.

Like when we played West Virginia during the era when they were in the discussion for a national championship? We also caught GT when they were better than they'd been in a long time.

Conversely, Sherrill could sure catch catch a Texas when they were just beatable enough for us.

competing for the Pac 10 pre-USC dominance and BYU going undefeated until we broke their running back's leg.

Sans Texas, we have had some bad luck with major OOC scheduling.

Agree that we don't need to schedule Texas, Oklahome, FSU anytime soon, but NC State, Baylor, Arizona, Colorado, TCU, Wake, Louisville, would add some flavor to the schedule without being too difficult.

at their peak (not that wyoming was great by any stretch) and yes, we had Texas Tech just as they started to get good.

I was just saying, its still a little weak.

If you start winning by 2010, it certainly needs to beef up after that.

My sources are telling me that we are in talks with the lower Big 10 teams in a home/home. Possibly Mich. St./Indiana/Illinois. Not the big boys, but the ones that have budgets similar to ours.

I say schedule for wins OOC. The SEC schedule will be plenty tough enough.

to risk a W.

National exposure is overrated now that we'll be on ESPN weekly. Its overrated anyway. In 1999, we were the defending West champions and our game against Oklahoma State was the 11:30 game.

I don't really think you sell many more tickets to the game.

Its certainly more exciting and fun to play a better team, but again not nearly worth risking a W.

which is great for scheduling flexibility. we should be able to use these next 2 years to rebuild and get (hopefully) some wins against the C-USA teams. the only commitment we have after 2011 is a home and home with tulane. we're wide open other than that, and i would expect that 2011 or 2012 will be the year we'll add a home and home with a BCS team to the schedule, something byrne has said he wants to do every year. we'll also probably keep the jackson states coming once per year, hoping for 7 home games every year.

lots of clemson and GT games on those schedules. makes sense for everyone involved, hopefully we'll have more games like the GT series. i'd rather go to a game at virginia or nc state than at minnesota or indiana.

...Since 1990, I've seen MSU play Texas, Oklahoma State, BYU, GT, UWV & a bunch of others I can't remember.

My point being, in the last 20 years MSU has not been shy when it comes to OOC scheduling.

But as for now, given where this football program is, I'm not interested in heroic OOC scheduling.

When you have been struggling with Tulane in recent years, you don't even want to see Tulane as an OOC opponent. Much less a real OOC opponent from a real conference.

SEC vs Big10 will be somewhat appealing, but not too bad of a matchup if it is those teams. Purdue could be another option. I would like to see the same with the Big12. Maybe Kirk Schulz could arrange a matchup with Kanasas State.

Texas Tech's OOC schedule of Eastern Washington, Nevada, SMU and UMass (that's 2 I-AA teams and 2 mid-majors with a combined 8-17 record for those keeping score) sure didn't keep their fans or the national media away from their program this year.

I just wish that the games were reversed so that Bama's expansion could be completed in time for the game

I'm sick of CUSA too. Every time we play a CUSA team you know it's their Super Bowl no matter how crappy we are. And when you're just as crappy as they are they have a huge advantage. Give me a 1-AA, 1 CUSA/Sun Belt/LaTech type team (not to start the season and as a 2 for 1 at worst), and home and homes with 2 crappy BCS schools. If we start winning, make it 1 crappy BCS school and 1 legit one.

he has zero desire to schedule OOC games that don't look like possible wins, if not probable wins.

I don't know about scheduling two I-AA opponents, but if we win 10 games, that's what people are going to talk about.

Besides, I remember when we played Oklahoma State in 1999, people still busted on our schedule.

I'd actually like to see us play a service academy school. They are beatable, but decent teams, and they would draw well. I think Air Force would be a natural opponent with the base in Columbus.

our Strength of schedule sucks, didnt know ALA and Penn St play this year. UT and Okla and Ohio St in the future will be interesting. Hopefully after the next 2 years we can beef it up A LITTLE AT LEAST

enough of Lt's ****** scheduling.

and minor point, you left off one other for arkansas.
They have a return home game with Texas in either 2014 or 15.. immediately after petrino got to arkansas he begged out of the return home game for this upcoming season.
Didnt want to have to play Texas A&M and Texas at the same time.

strength of schedule doesn't matter all that much.

And quite frankly, if you have an easy non-conference schedule and don't win six games, you shouldn't go bowling anyway.
