Has this season already surpassed the CWS runner up?

For me it has. I know that there is still a lot of football to be played, but football is king and I just never imagined us being #1.

Hard to compare the two. I almost expect it in baseball and never considered it in football.

At this point, I'm still giving the edge to baseball, but in January, I hope to have a different answer.

Still too much season left for me to say it has now. If we win the West, then I will say yes, because that more than likely means we will be in the playoff and Dak will be the heisman winner.

To me we still have 3 huge obstacles left: Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Nobody outside of Mississippi even remembers we were CWS runner ups. College baseball is a minor sport to 80% of the country. Even if we lose a couple games this is way better than baseball because we are #1 in the biggest collegiate sport by far. This season has given us more positive publicity than we've probably ever had.

Without a doubt. The national recognition from even one week of being #1 in football > winning the CWS in baseball.

If you're going to include Arkansas at home you better go ahead and add UK @ Lexington into the mix.

We got 2 weeks to prepare for UK

And they will be coming off a week playing at Death Valley. And we haven't had problems in the past vs UK like we have Arkansas. Seems like no matter how good we are and bad Arkansas is, we lose or barely get by. So I stand by the 3 games that will be the toughest for State.

That's a huge hell yes. This is the biggest thing that's ever happened to MSU sports. Only the Final Four is close.

For me, yes, as far as pure excitement level. The CWS run was fun, but ultimately I'm just not much of a baseball guy anymore.

We very well could go on from here to lose 2 or more regular season games, and that would be a letdown from where we stand now, but at this very moment I'd say this is way more exciting than even winning the CWS would've been.

Going on the past I totally agree. I think UK & Ark are pretty much even, but UK has more to play for record wise. Plus we're at their place where they are starved for success. They aren't quite the same UK team we've seen the last 4/5 years.

Not too worried about either of the next 2 games. On the road, Arkansas would worry me more. They are definitely improved over last year.

I'm a long-suffering State fan, so I know that we could well lose either game. But it'd be a big surprise, and a huge disappointment.
