Hate to ask this but.... How long until they flag us for cowbells?

The whole country just witnessed the SEC officials do nothing about their own rule against artificial noisemakers. No doubt it makes our stadium way louder than it obviously would be. I think this ESPN deal might tie the knot quicker.

Thoughts?

They can't flag us. The officials no longer have the authority to flag us for a Conference specific rule. They can only enforce NCAA sanctioned rules. The NCAA does NOT have a rule against artificial noise makers and therefore we can't be penalized on the field.

It's just that right now the noise doesn't determine the outcome. Good work finding that article.

This says it all. SEC still has the authority to <17> us at will over cowbells if and when they choose to do so. Including flagging us on the field.
That article is 3 years old. The rules, which change on a yearly basis, no longer allow for officials to flag a team for the use of an artificial noise maker. They can only enforce NCAA sanctioned rules, not conference specific rules

When you're up 15-13 on Alabama with 2 seconds to go, and Bama is lining up for a 50 yard FG.

Then you'll get back to back cowbell penalties moving Bama into closer range for their game winner. That's when they'll flag you.

And if Bama doesn't make the field goal, prepare for sanctions.

No, if Bama were to miss the FG, the side judge would grab an MSU player, push him onto the field (probably Bumphis due to his size making him more pushable), and you'd get flagged for 12 men on the field.

That, or they'd review the FG and tell you it was good even if it missed wide by 20 feet. You are not beating Bama in a close one if at all possible, especially this year.

The upside is that everybody would be too tired from killing Bama fans to gang rape on Sunday.

I heard this directly from a SEC ref last year. They do not have the authority to assess an on field penalty now that the NCAA removed the penalty for artificial noise makers.

...that may be a little hyperbole there, but not far from the absolute truth!

The NCAA told the SEC they could still ban artifical noisemakers in their stadiums, but they cannot have an on-field penalty for them.

yea I was going to essentially say what fletch said but he beat me to it. There's literally nothing they can do now unless the refs want to stand at the gates and pat down peoples crotches and asses to find cowbells. Cowbells are essentially the only long standing tradition we have in football at state and to my understanding every time the sec would say something about our cowbells in the past people would then bring more.
