If the brothers were interested in Duke, would we explore the option...or in respect to Wojo leave them alone?

At this point it's not even clear if Duke would have a scholarship for both. Duke either has to miss on Hurt and/or Stanley or somebody else other than Zion Williamson has to leave for greener pastures.

Most people on the Marquette board think that the Hauser brothers were tired of the Markus Howard hero-ball. Howard announced he was returning for his senior year on Friday. They literally announced the very next business day/school day that they were gone. Crazy. Hard to imagine the #2 and #3 scorers of a top 25 team leaving town. The rumblings I'm reading over various message boards are Michigan State and Virginia as the two most likely destinations... and as jimlsumner mentions, I'm not even sure we'd have an available scholarship. They are a packaged deal.

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. Two things....can't help but feel a little sorry for Wojo, and can't say I blame them regarding Howard. He's an elite scorer, but he makes R.J. look like the furthest thing from ball-dominant.

Not only for all the reasons above, but I don't think K would bring them in with them leaving Wojo's team.

If Howard declared for the draft, the brothers stay. Sam wants to be the primary scorer on a team.

watching players bail because x, y, z is staying or leaving or incoming is nausiating. Apparently commitment and loyalty to your word have become something of the past. Its all about the individual. First sign of adversity....time to leave.

Bummer for Wojo. They have been a centerpiece on that team and on Wojo's recruiting.

But, clearly something was up as the season went along. That team fell apart at the end of the year and there's got to be a reason behind it.

Too bad if it's Howard that is the problem.

Volume scorers like that do create team inefficiencies. I don't like it. Duke has had its share and they just don't win championships because they are less efficient themselves, can be shut down, and the offense loses continuity - as well as the team. I've never enjoyed Duke when one guy has had to throw up 20 shots to make 7 and get 18 pts. a game. The Rivers', Barrett's, etc. have their moments but I'll take a team oriented game over a one-on-one high volume scorer any day. It's one of the reasons teams like Tech and UVA were in the finals and Duke, with more talent, could not make the Final Four.

Marcus Howard is a frickin’ cancer to Marquette. You guys think RJ shot it a few too many times? pfffffffttt.....

I don’t blame them for leaving, I’d leave too.

18 months from now I would expect Sam Hauser to be one of top 25 players in America heading into the 2020-2021 season. Joey Hauser has a really high ceiling, and he could certainly make one of the All-Conference teams. Virginia might be the team to beat for their services. Huge, huge bonus for any team that picks them up.

I think I read that Virginia is the front runner, sounds like you’re right on the money. Thank god they aren’t immediately available this upcoming season, UVa would be loaded right back up.

Its interesting how transfers are now becoming as important, if not more important than recruiting. As impact players they are becoming crucial...with early leavers...the maturity and impact on top squads are becoming transfer players.
An unitended consequence of the grad/transfer rules being relaxed.

RJ Cole, from Howard, has recently entered the transfer portal (also declaring for the draft, but he's likely to return to college). Never seen him play before, but his numbers look really good. Might be worth a look.

21.6 ppg
4.1 reb
6.4 ast
1.9 stl
3.2 turnovers

41.5% fg
38.7% 3pt
81.8% ft

Why is it perfectly OK to recruit a OAD or two and done transfer, but the world hates us because we recruit OAD freshmen? What's the difference? At least freshmen aren't running out on a program they committed to.

This transferring of players may be bigger than the one and done. It will be a way for some programs to stay competitive yearly.
It wouldn't surprise me to soon see the kids transferring to be eligible immediately.

I think this should be a topic we discuss on the next podcast. The transfer portal and the teams going to the well year after year in that regard now is no different than the OAD. But clearly it will he spun differently.

I only watched Marquette at the end of the year. They were pretty good. Just not enough speed. In particular, the Hausers were a bit slow. A big loss for Marquette and not much of a gain for the team that gets them, unless the new team is below average

Leah D would much rather have the Hanson brothers from the movie " Slap Shot". Markus Howard can put the biscuit in the basket! The Hausers can watch Ja Morant score at will! And assist when he's bored
