From my point of view, this game turned as a result of 3 things:
1) While most aspects of this game were overall pretty even, such as big plays and such, Okie State had a potential for 5 turnovers and lost only one. We lost one big one that ultimately turned into the difference maker on the scoreboard (I don't count that last score because you can play differently if you aren't down late).
2) We actually played pretty well between the 30's, which was encouraging. However, we were worse off being in 3rd and 3 than 3rd and 9 and this was all day. Why we continue to run 1 yard crossing routes is beyond me. Why we keep throwing to them is even worse.
3) Overall QB play. That slot slant was there all day long and should have gone for at least 3 scores but the throws just weren't there. The timing was a hair off. Also, you have to pull that ball on occasion and take it yourself. Okie State's ends were just crashing hard on the tailback. Doege never pulled it. The focus was entirely on Brown and Sinkfield. Pull that a couple of times, maybe get some first downs or a good run out of it, they have to respect it and holes open up. Finally, Doege must use proper mechanics. He threw off his back foot all day long, even when he didn't have to. This especially happened on his deep throws and sideline throws. The ball would either sail or hang up on him, giving our receivers little opportunity to come down with a catch and/or potential score. You're going to get hit either way, do it the right way.
Thought the defense played pretty well all day. Except for one bust, did a decent job keeping a very good run game in check, at least to the point it really wasn't a factor in the outcome. Didn't understand the lack of pressure though. Don't recall a single true blitz. Against a freshman QB making his first true start, I would have thought this would be automatic - heat him up, knock him down, make him get rid of it fast and check his decision making. Oh well, ...
