I don't think I can stomach la. tech having a better QB than us. I watched his highlight video and got a little wooly envisioning him in our spread offense.

Probably wont happen because we are STATE but I would take him. Yes bash away about the character, etc..

Hey the kid can play football. Sign em up.. and send over the hot dogs to mama.

A - he's a known repeat offender, 2 - he's only got 1 year left (he's missed spring, if it's this year he's eligible for), and D - we really don't have to be that damn hard-up with Relf, Russell and Favre. ALL of which will be back next year with more experience and more maturity (assuming Masoli would sit this year and be eligible in '11).

I felt the same way about Mustain. Too little time to get him ready for this year, and with the guys we have, they will pull their own weight next year. It's not like he's Cam Newton and has a spring practice under him and 2 years to play.

wont get him but this is how I see it. Call it very sheepish or whatever but lets say he did come here..

Mullen got him on the straight and narrow for this year. He basically runs a version of the same offense at Oregon. Terminology, etc he would grasp quickly.. Lets say he helps us win nine or ten games..

Mullen looks like a genius and can walk into a house now of a qb and say not only did I coach Alex Smith, Tebow, etc.. I gave Masoli new life. Just another feather in the cap for Mullen, a big bowl for State and recruiting will be even better.

He certainly wouldn't be a savior, but he would be somebody that fits our offense and the principles should be familiar to him. Even if we just put in some packages for him where he would simply provide more of a passing threat than Relf.

Plus, we only have two qb's if we want to redshirt Favre. We need him for depth alone.

As far as being a cancer, there's a risk, and if he has to sit out a year, that would worry me more than us trying to teach him a few sets and using him in a limited role this year. But you can always take a risk on character for talent. If he's rubbing other players the wrong way, boot his *** then.
ETA: All this to say, yes, sane thinking fans should want this guy and trust that Mullen can either keep the cancer localized or get rid of them if he ends up being a bad influence on other players.

I hate to say this, but we will probably get the same production out of Relf. Let's remember Masoli has been playing PAC 10 defenses and was shut down by Ohio State.

I understand why people don't want the baggage but to say his production would be the same as Relf is like saying Croom or Coach34 were as productive of coaches as Vince Lombardi. Masoli would run circles around Relf.

Do you smoke crack or just notknow much about football. Or are you basing all of this off of one egg bowl performance?

"Masoli completed 18-of-32 passes for 258 yards and a touchdownwith an interception and amassed 106 yards on the ground with 3 tdsfor the Ducks (10-3),"

That was in 2008 in the Holiday Bowl to beatOklahoma State41-31. What was Relf doing then?

having only Russell and Favre to back-up Relf is a huge gamble on our part

Bring on Masoli- run a 2 QB system with hm and Relf, and we will win 8-9 games this Fall

First of all, thanks for the flame.

Secondly, you're awfully naive if you think a running-style Pac-10 qb
is going to come to state and put up Tim Tebow numbers. Especially
with one year to play, zero experience with the staff and players, and
a completely different level of talent (Oregon's is higher than ours).

Third, the 2008 Holiday Bowl was Oregon vs Oklahoma State. Forgive me if I'm not impressed by his performance against a defense that didn't even rank close to the top 50.

How'd he do against Utah, Boise State, and Ohio State last year?

Glad to see you have faith in Tyler Russell Coach34.
Seems to me like you have a man crush on Chris Relf.

I agree with What Lars Larson said. Relf had a great Egg Bowl, but hasnt proven himself in the SEC. I say get Masoli it cant hurt.

Yeah, I could see some resentment amongst the team if this guy came in and started. If he can do that, we're in a world of hurt anyway because that means Relf and Russell suck.

I mean, is Mullen actively looking for transfers? He didn't appear to want Mustain, Masoli, or Willy Korn. He wanted Cam Newton, at least before the spring. Since then it seems we are happy with the QB situation. And don't say the "where there's smoke there's fire"....if we wanted any of those guys, we'd have brought them in to visit and it'd be all over the media. See Jevan Snead.

Mullen knows Oregon's HC very well...and the fact our name is being brought up shows we made inquiries...Some reporter didnt just drag this out of thin air...and Masoli didnt just look in Lindy's and decide to put us on his possible list of transfers

Reasons he won't be at MSU:

1- If he were on the team, he would already have been kicked off for what he did in Oregon. Surely we apply somewhat similar rules to bringing on transfer players as we do kicking arrested guys off the team.
2 - The staff can do wonders keeping thugs on the straight and narrow (translated as - out of jail), but he couldbe a real challenge.
3 - Does Mullen really want a QB with "left handed ciggy addiction". Every one knows they call it dope for a reason. Past experience with "Smoking Joe" players hasn't been good.
4 - If UofO couldn't make it work with him, how the hell would MSU be able to make it work? We're that much better at rehab than they are?
5 - The damage he could do in one year could cost more than we could ever overcome.
6 - There are lots of tough well trained guys at Parchman who would love to get out of the house for a while. Why not give a few of them a shot? Drive down 49-E past the fence and look at some of the hunks lifting weights and running around the fence, looking for a chance to con their wayout help MSU's program. Their tats alone would bring fear into the hearts of all those Vanderbilt guys.
7 - He can sit out a year and go pro. Why waste a year at MSU when his mommadoesn't want him here?
8 - Would we hire him his ownparol officer so that he has individual attention?
9 - Would we hire him a designatedurine provider for drug test day?Do you get those through the student worker program?
10 - All of that said, wouldn't the Oktibeha and Starkville Popos have a field day with him!

I'm pretty sure Mullen is telling him- "you come here to play in the best conference in college football and I will give you every chance to earn the starting QB position"

Whether he does or not- that remains to be seen...but once he is on campus, we got him

our offense would struggle alot with no threat of run from the QB, a QB that is very inexperienced playing against SEC defenses, and average WR's that get no benefit from play-action passes

Posting about MSU football than he is on Basketball.

He has made MULTIPLE good points in this thread.

We both agree to disagree about Stans on C34's basketball/stans hate threads, but we are both seeing eye to eye on football.
I agree 100% that if we had to rely on Russell this season we'd be in Big Trouble. I really would love to get Masoli, but of course im not getting my hopes up.

Relf goes down we are in deep ****. Russell may end up being a good player but if memory serves me correctly - MS high school coaches havent had the best of luck producing young QBS that end up on an SEC field of play and them being sucessful early and nobdy can say why other than Russells four star rating that he will be different.

Bring on Masoli..

6-7 wins.I thinkRussell will be a good QB in a year or two (possibly even great)but right now we are missing too many pieces that he needs for help. We have no proven RB and we have one good WR and one decent WR. Relf is a threat to runevery play and that completely changes the game for us.

at QB staying healthy means anywhere from 5-7 wins in 2010...

We have toss-up games at home vs Auburn, Jawja, and UPig, and then another toss-up in Oxford...I'd much rather have Masoli and Relf in those games than Relf and Russell

We have 3 sure losses- Bammer, Fla, and LSU

We have 3 sure wins- Mempho, Alcorn, and UAB

And then we have the WTF game against Houston at their place- no idea what will happen here- but again, Masoli and Relf could pull this one out in a shootout- Relf and Russell??? Who knows

And I was trying to clarify your previous post, because originally when I read it, it sounded like you were saying Relf's health could mean the difference in 5 or 6 wins. I was making sure it was the idea of having the two QB combination.

Masoli would be a nice get for your offense, especially coming from another spread option offense. The transition wouldn't be that bad. And if he was around and eligible this fall, I think even if Relf started the year off as the starter, he'd eventually lose that job.

rumor is he is supposed to graduate this summer- and should be able to transfer without sitting out...

Turner cant because he wasnt in summer school in June, and no way for him to make up 4 classes in one summer term

I could be wrong on this- but that is how it was explained to me

I'm saying Relf's health is the difference in having a possible winning season and not having one. If he went down early, we would be in a helluva fix

doesn't mean he's guaranteed to be a starter. He'll go elsewhere where he knows he will start and not have to compete for the job.

about the spread counting as an upset- that was typed out during a crown-driven blackout...but it was funny as **** reading it the next day
