Today's commitment of Sanberg got me thinking of whether or not we have turned the proverbial corner. I realize this years results will go a long way in solidifing that, but you have to admit that with this commitment, new state of the art football facility, and stadium expansion, sustained winning, at at least a bowl level, may be upon us. We now have redshirts, depth, and are recruiting players, like Sandburg, that in the past we would have had zero shot at. I am by no means saying that we are going to Atlanta or are near the level of the upper tier of the SEC yet, but it's hard to deny that this thing is really heading in the right direction. So that being said, have we turned the corner? And if not, where the hell is it?

I've heard Mullen finally feels like he can go to any kid in the country and make a convincing case for MSU.
This is a big year for us on the field though. Another solid bowl game (Peach or higher IMO), and we will show we can sustain success.

I expect us to finish 6-6 minimum every regular season. I know at some point you have to expect to win more than that, but with Bama, Arkansas, LSU, TAMU, and Auburn in the same division as us, we've got to be realistic on how many games we can win each year. I know we are getting deeper and more talented in our starting 22, but in the SEC, you don't turn things around against that group of teams in 5 years. It takes a long time to build a winning tradition to attract the recruits necessary to beat 3 of those teams every year.
Everything is cyclic, but right now, unless Saban or Miles leaves soon, those two will stay at the top and beat us every year. After that, I can see us in 5 years being in the spot Arkansas is currently in. 9 to 10 regular seasonwins can be achievable, and I think Dan Mullen is doing it the right way. He's recruiting better, he's redshirting guys and building our depth, he kept the staff the same this year, and we've got new facilities on the way. This will be a long process, but I think if Mullen sticks with us we will be a consistently above average team in 3 to 5 years.

This past Feb's recruiting class was very good. If we follow it up with another, we have a chance to elevate. It takes 2 strong recruiting classes in a row to start thinking 10+ wins in today's SEC. We'll never consistently win 10 games in the SEC, but Mullen is building a program that at least has a chance to win 10 occasionally. Recruits are beginning to see what he's doing here and that he's not trying to take the next train out of Starkville and it's starting to really pay off for us. I think we'll win more than 6 games this fall, but even if we do just win 6, we're going to have a very realistic chance to get those 10 wins in the near future.
I agree Pat. Most will point to some big win, hopefully this fall, as the point of turning the corner, but I don't believe winning or losing any one game is the corner turning point for any program. Big wins certainly help, they help with recruiting, donations, and exposure. However, they are not the corner turning point, they are a fruit of the corner turning point. I believe the corner turning point, is the point in which we all bought into what Mullen was selling. It may have been the LSU game two years ago that we lost, the Florida game that we won, Gator Bowl, or one of the Egg Bowls. The exact date doesn't matter, but there was a point 2 years ago where the corner was turned, the fans bought inn, donations went up, and we started catching up. <div>

Didn't it take two miracles in a row for them to beat State the last couple of years? One of those was with their heisman winning QB at the helm. Chiz has two mediocre seasons with one great season in between. AU aint go too much room to laugh.

a ****** spot from the refs for Auburn to beat us. And it STILL took a goaline miracle for them to beat us last year! They were on the nations LONGEST winning streak at the time as well. The ONLY thing holding us back is OL. As soon as we get this figured out we're gonna be as good if not better than we EVER have. Remember this those high level yrs Jackie had were against an inferior western conference to the competition we face!
