He would be a big step down athletically from Davis and Freedom. When we go even front Davis and Thomas will give us a heck of a pass rushing duo at DT.

Huh? I don't know which game you were watching. Stoltenberg did well. ASU started by trying to block him with just the center at first but switched to pretty much double teaming him when he was in there in the 3 man front. One play he almost pushed two guys back into the qb, but qb was winging it out of there too fast.
I'll have to watch again, but I wondered if their OL switched their focus knowing he was a true FR with how disruptive he was. I'm pretty sure future opponents will take notice of him on video.
Mick would be good at setting the edge but unfortunately he's pretty slow ala "Frankenstein on roller skates" cam meridith pass rush
Yes, Stolt was getting doubled almost every play whereas Thomas was taking on the center only most of the time. DT was pushing the center 3 yards or so in the backfield quite a bit. Kid has some explosion and plays with good leverage. Must also be really strong but he wasn't occupying 2 guys the way Stoltenberg was.
