Pretty amazing.

I think Cohen is doing a great job, but I can't help thinking of Croom's pull-it-out-your-*** wins during his winning season.

We need some hitting at some point.

I hate that I can't hear the broadcast on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I don't know if it's just business or if the athletic department has not made it a priority, but I think being able to hear any State game from anywhere in Mississippi beats the hell out of clever billboards for PR. The real tragedy of it is that we've got an awesome baseball broadcast team, but we just don't get to listen to them.

are a huge part of baseball. If you don't give up any runs, you can't lose. Why does nobody talk about this. All you here from the Cohen bashers is we can't hit blah blah blah.

And once we get into the Regional, it's much better to have the dominant pitching staff and be used to having to scratch out runs, thus knowing how to scratch out runs. You will face dominant pitching in postseason, so you gotta have a staff that can shut your opponents down to have a chance. I like this team's chances in the postseason due to pitching and defense alone. Have a few hot weekends at the plate, and this team could easily find itself in a Super Regional again.

Two years ago, we could hit OK and with some power. But we couldn't pitch and our defense was horrible. We won 23 games and 6 SEC games with two SEC series wins.

Now, we can pitch really well and play average defense and we have 29 wins, 12 SEC wins and we have two more series and the last game of this series and three non-conference games to go- as well as probably SEC Tournament and Regional games left. We've won four SEC series with two left- and all of this with a team that is badly banged up.

It is an undeniable trend in baseball- pitching and defense wins games for you. If you add some offense, then you are talking about a potential championship caliber team.

Just win baby. I was a little critical of Cohen when we weren't doing so well at the start of SEC play. But it was because it is year 4 & we were losing. We've got some breaks lately. We had some go against us earlier in the year. If Reed had been as good as last year, we'd have at least 2 more SEC wins (SC, LSU). I just want to get better and eventually be as good as SC or LSU. I was probably more excited by the Cohen hire than any other ever made at MSU. I want us to win with him.

But for long-term success, our hitting is going to have to get better. I don't care how good your pitching is, if you hit as bad as we do, you're not going to be able to beat good teams very often. I think Cohen's done a great job with this team, but I'm really concernedabout our offensive production.

ESPECIALLY with our ballpark, then please, slit your own wrists and rid the gene pool of your DNA.<div>

Concerned? What the $+#% for? You go ahead and keep wasting your time being concerned. I'll deal with reality, which is that most everybody on our team is a first year starter. We are recruiting lights out (according to the pundits) and Cohen has shown he can do more with less. <div>
</div><div>So by all means, pull your hair out by being concerned. We are a National Championship contending team next season.</div>

That's multiple times today you've advised that someone just slit their wrist. I don't think that's normal.

Place on the whole internet one can go to find 'fans' that ... will bash 'their' team right after they win another SEC series (with a shot to sweep) at a place we haven't won in years ... One that has won 7 of Last 8 SEC games ... One that took another series from 'da Bears.

in this thread. Our pitching and defense are great but we do need a little more hitting to continue to have long term success. Even for this series we have 6 runs on 10 hits and Bama has 3 runs on 19 hits. So in the past 2 games we have double the runs on half the hits as compared to Bama's output. THAT will be difficult to keep up;.

I'm very pleased with the pitching & defense. Who doesn't want the hitting to pick up? I thought this was the board where you didn't have to be a sheep? Very few people here want Cohen to fail.

To clear up what I was saying yesterday, I completely agree that pitching and defense overall are paramount-no question. I was primarily responding to the guy's assertion that we could be vying for the national championship if we were "a little better at hitting." I don't think just being a "little better at hitting" gets us to the NC. Again, I'm very impressed with what Cohen has done in this season with all of the injuries, etc., I honestly think its remarkable. However, there is no doubt we need to improve on offense and I'm just talking about improving to a point where its passable. We don't need to be all world, but having the top 4-5 guys batting a little above .300 would be huge. Having a couple of guys that are clutch hitters would be huge. Having a guy that could hit homers wouldn't be bad either.

I think my point will come across next weekend when we play Florida. As everyone here knows, once we get down we can't come back. So when we start playing good teams in regionals, supers and eventually in Omaha, we have to be able to respond to situations where we have a bad inning and we get down on the board. That's not bashing, that's just an realistic assessment.

Besides, I think most of this euphoria is because of our winning "streak" of late. Looking at this board after the gov's cup you'd have thought Cohen had turned into Simple Jack and the season was over.

But for the most part these are 2nd and 3rd year players, or JUCOs, that are struggling. That's a very bad sign.

I have no idea what the cause or the solution is. Maybe one guy will pick up a bat in his dorm room and get the damn thing figured out. Maybe that'll catch and we'll be enjoying that glorious crack with regularity.

But Cohen has done a tremendous job this season. Need that sweep today, because extra gravy is a Sunday staple.

Ole Miss and Arkansas had some good looking crowds yesterday. Anybody got any idea how to tell my wife I wanna go to the bikini contest at Hard Rock today? Never been. Is it worth the trouble?
