Didn’t even watch it. For as screwed up as the CFB world is now, i don’t even watch the little bowl games anymore. I just wait for the OG bowl games now.

I was always a fan of the Blue/Gray game on Christmas Day. That was usually the closest thing to a bowl game I’d get as a State fan. Same for the ole miss side of the family, we could sit and watch it in peace unlike Thanksgiving.

That game needed OT. It was dead under at the end of regulation.

Didn't we use to have more bowl games on Christmas Eve?
The Hawaii Bowl is always on Christmas Eve night and then another one in the middle of the day….for a while it was the Boca Raton Bowl but I guess there wasn’t one this year.

San Jose St vs South Florida in the 5th Overtime

I don’t understand why some of you guys want to get rid of minor bowl games like this. This game has been a lot of fun to watch.

ETA: South Florida wins it in the 5th OT.
Watched a bit of it at the end (after finishing up It's a Wonderful Life of course ) and saw the doink to put it into OT. Gave new meaning to having to fly across "the country". Kinda miss the look and feel of the old Aloha stadium on a Christmas eve.
Started this afternoon with Murray/Loyola in the "who's not last" game (big come back by the Racers) and will finish up with Neb/Oregon St for the "championship" later tonight in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Basketball Classic.
Obviously a college sports junky. :)

When I was a kid, the Blue-Gray Game came on at 11am on Christmas Day followed by the Aloha Bowl in mid afternoon. It made for some good television after Christmas brunch at grandma’s house was done. There hasn’t been a bowl game on Christmas in a long time.

And there definitely won’t be now with the NFL wading in

Easy solution: Move the bowl games to August so there aren't any opt-outs and and every team gets 13 meaningful games.

Easier solution. Go back to Funk & Wagnalls picking the National Champion after all the Bowls are played through New Years Day!

I don't think anyone WANTS to get rid of any bowl game. It's that they just don't matter to most players and coaches, and the calendar is all whacked out around them.

I love the bowl games. Just wish we could eliminate all of the opt outs.
Not happening unless you incentivize it through NIL.

I’ll never understand why football fans want less football. Just another thing for unhappy people to ***** about.
Because to many people it's more than football. It was, to me, for a long time. Now that I care much less (mainly due to NIL), I see it more like you're talking about here - as just entertainment, so yeah, I got no issues with playing bowl games. I'll even watch the FCS playoffs if I just happen to be sitting around.

But to sum it up, they've just ruined the institution of it all, that many people here grew up with. It may be great again one day, and the previous system wasn't perfect (i.e. rigid bowl tie-ins and BCS could only take 2 teams). But at least you knew where everything stood, and if you were a good but not great G5 team or a mediocre P5 team, you had a consolation prize that mattered. Heck many teams would build that one bowl-breakout season where they got to 6-6, but got extra practice in order to build for the following year. That stuff was fun. But once that playoff started, it became clear quickly that bowls were being devalued, especially the ones that included teams that missed their expectations. And now that you have the portal, it's almost better to not be concerned with bowl practice. Maybe it's all an exercise in parity, though.
