Hawaii trip...

if anyone has any questions on Hawaii feel free to email me on it. I went for a couple of weeks last September and packed in a lot of the local sights. Of course, there is more than anyone can do in a week but I'd be happy to answer any questions about the place.</p>

I'd like to know. I went to Hawaii about 6 years ago and stayed in the Hilton Rainbow Towers. I think that's the same place the team is staying. Lucky bastards

If island hopping isn't too expensive, I'd go to Kauai (1st choice) or Maui (2nd choice). Oahu is my least favorite of the 3 islands that I've visited.

you are taking the chance on getting stuck on one of the other islands for a night. If you are on a tight schedule it is not the best idea. Its amazing how small the islands are.</p>

Yeah, Oahu sucks. If you want to see Oahu, just go to somewhere on the East coast, it will be alot cheaper. The only saving grace in Oahu is for history buffs...if you want to see the USS Arizona.

I haven't been to Kauai, but Maui is badass. I went there a couple Christmas ago and going back for my honeymoon. If you plan on making it over to Maui you HAVE to do the Hike Maui rainforest hike, preferably the half-day. Going to see Molokini crater (snorkel) is also pretty cool, since its only one of 3 in the entire world like it. Do NOT do the road to Hana if you go to Maui. Its a massive waste of a day.

I've heard Kauai and Lanai are awesome, just like Maui. Its actually not that hard to get back from the small islands, if you're willing to pay for a short 15 minute plane flight over and back. You can buy the tickets at the counter, they're never, ever even close to full.

well, I guess that's why they say, "different strokes for different folks"..have been to Hawaii twice before and leaving again Wed. for the games, and both times was able to visit Maui and the Hana road is one of my favorites..have pictures(which is a hobby) of the unbelievable vegetation there, along with some of the sea stops along the way..if you are really adventuresome, don't stop at Hana and come back but continue all the way around the island on the other side(yes, I know rental car companies say don't), you can see truly rural Hawaii..have never spent much time on Oahu, but am going to spend entire time there this time(kinda hard to take in 4 games on 4 different days staying a week and go elsewhere..may change my mind after this, but think I will enjoy Oahu just fine...have house rented looking over Pearl Harbor(just like first trip) as don't like the crowded Waikiki area.....certainly hope the U of H coach has more courage than the Nichols State coach...

You might as well go to NYC if you're going to go there for an entire trip (not referring to you, but people in general).

They have alot of badass stores on that strip, but my opinion is the area is only worth it to fly over in the morning, shop, and fly back to another island that night (unless you plan to go to Pearl Harbor).

as it is very commerical. Go to the North and North East part of the island to see the rural parts. Also, do not spend the money to go on the submarine tour. Its really not worth it. However, the must do activity is snorkling at Hanoma (sp) Bay state park on the SE part of the island. Get there as early as possible as it fills up fast.

Guess what junior, you're not exactly planting a flag by having been to Hawaii. It's a ******* i n g state for crying out loud, it's not like you're an international man of mystery. You know what, every island has something cool. Oahu has some great areas too, and I'm sure everyone who goes will have a good time. And while getting smashed on mai tais sitting on Waikiki beach watching the sunset with the tiki torches flickering off some hot chicks *** with a goofy *** polynesian ukelele band playing in the background isn't your most desirable part of the islands, it is for some.

So geez, shut the ******* up about it. Let everyone that goes have their own opinion without your ******** personal preferences trying to skew it. Somebody is going to take that long +#@!**% hike near Wainai to that waterfall that "only the locals know about" (********). Somebody is going to take a helicopter tour over the volcanoes on the big island looking for lava. And somebody is going to get hammered +#@!**% drunk and never get too far off of Kalakaua Avenue and wind up at Femme Nu every night. And guess what, everybody is most likely going to have a great time.

Going and staying on Waikiki beach..Never been to Hawaii and am going with someone who has actually stayed in the place we are staying..Should be a good time..I think anything in Hawaii beats work..

...well as Oahu. In all, I have spent about 60 days in Hawaii and have been all over the islands. I agree Honolulu is a waste of time, if you want the real Hawaii. If you have to be there, at least go to the National Cemetery up in the Diamondhead Crater and take the Pearl Harbor tour. Waikaloa and Sunset are probably the best beaches. Makaha has 50 foot waves in the late fall, but is populated with a lot of Samoans, who are badasses. Some don't like Haoli's (whites). Some of Oahu's best real estate and natural areas are on Government reservations.

Maui is the best for "being in Hawaii" by far. Lahaina, is a kicking little town, and there are some great beaches with superb snorkeling. I agree the rain forest hike is great. There is great golf on all the islands. Kauai is the best "natural experience," and second to Maui. The Big Island's Kona Coast is cool, and the volcano's are great. Golf on Kona is strange with many of them with black sand traps. There is a road open sometimes to the peak of Molokai. Lanai has great snorkling and some very new resorts. It was virtually owned by Dole and was nothing but a big pineapple plantation until recently.

Nobody told you what to do or what not to do. Nobody **** on your plans. Probably 90% of people who have done the road to Hana will tell you it is a waste. Several of the guides I had when I went (one grew up in Honolulu and lives on Maui) told us it would be a waste of time as a tourist, and would take the entire day to do. Waikiki is cool if that is what you want to see. The beaches aren't great but if you're not planning on doing any real sightseeing around Hawai'i, then Waikiki will probably be your best bet for nightlife and otherwise. If you plan on actually wanting to know what the real Hawai'i is like (the now established Wailea wasn't even there 15-20 years ago, just an example), Maui and Lanai are your best bets to see the landscape and otherwise. It was simply recommendations. If you are planning to do the baseball games, go around town at night, and do none of the hiking, snokeling, or otherwise, then Waikiki is the place for you to be. Stop being a 17'ing tool.

When I went I stayed at the Hawaiian Hilton Village in Wakiki. Its a great modern place right on the beach. However but t-shirts and other tourist items up closer to the north shore as they are alot cheaper. Its a great central location for restaurants and just walking on the beach. However to get a true feel for the place drive the highway circling the island and stop in several of the local places. He did not list a couple of other things that I found too:
</font><font color="#000">There is a cemetary on the east side of the island that represents several different religions. It doesn't take long to tour it and its fairly cheap. On Wakiki Beach you can pay 10 -20 dollars for a sailboat tour of the bay. Most have either free drinks or cheap drinks. It only lasts about an hour but is a great time. Snorkling at the Hanoma Bay is great and the one thing besides Pearl Harbor that I would say that you must do. I am in the military so Pearl Harbor was a great place to go because of the history. If you go to the ship (USS Missouri) take the guided tour as it makes it much, much better. If I went back to Oahu I would stay at the same place.
