For most, and for myself, the issue with Brown is that he says the right things but they just don’t translate to the field. The cursing in interviews and press conferences appears to be nothing but smoke and mirrors as he knows the fan base is extraordinarily disappointed and frustrated. It’s also unprofessional especially when it’s unwarranted because you got outcoached and your team has made the same stupid penalties every year since he came to Morgantown.
His actions on the sidelines are unwarranted most of the time. Dana was borderline crazy and still is. His actions earlier in the year were an embarrassment to Houston, however he turned it around. Brown doesn’t turn anything around.
His contract extension, combined with his phony rhetoric about the people of West Virginia and understands and sympathizes with their frustration, is what pisses me off. This is why we have so many transfers because the players just don’t buy what he is selling. This also appears to be the same thing when trying to find an outfit coordinator and he settled on Chad Scott. I think Chad is great, players loving, however he was a consolation hire.
So here we are at the bottom of the big 12 with very little hope and he has granted one more year because of a ridiculous amount of money it would cost to fire him. Brown has it made off of a terrible, horrible, disastrous contract extension and nothing else. He’s going to be even more of a multi millionaire and will always land at some FCS or Mumme tree job.
Yes he will land some good recruits on his sales tactics, however he’s not going to be able to retain them. Essentially everybody sees through the BS and/or his lack of ability.
But Gee loves him and loves 5-7. Gee was just as involved as Lyons on the buyout and fell on the sword. Wren is a yes man with his head in the clouds that he is at a very respectable institution with a significantly larger paycheck.
So we’re going to go through the motions in 2023 with a glorified Jeff Mullen as our HC.
