Some restructuring at South Loup, Coach Jags is turning the reins over to Zac Sweet. He will stay on as an assistant, so just a reshuffling but the staff stays the same.

Can confirm Holdrege made strong push for current very successful 8man coach but chose to stay where they are. I give a lot of credit to those who don't take a bigger job just to take one. A lot to be said about enjoying where you are.

I haven't seen anything "official" related to Pierce opening
Brahmer told Suckstorf he "lost the locker room" and "scouting reports were not detailed enough" *Huge eye roll! I've worked for a guy like this before. Best thing could be for Brahmer to take it back over because no one will do it to his satisfaction. Suckstorf deserved better, great coach.

Pierce will be a really tough job as long as Brahmer is still in Pierce. Suckstorf is a great coach.

I think there are some parents at play here to that helped cause the change.

As an earlier poster suggested, it is really hard to be the guy that follows the legend. Several of the premier 11-man programs in the state have been or will be in transition in the last 5 years or so to now.

Grand Island (Tomlin), Pierce (Brahmer), Elkhorn (Wortman), Kearney (Cool), Millard South (Means), Millard North (Petito), McCook (Gross), Adams Central (Carlin), Bishop Neumann (Turman), St Cecilia (Tesmer-2018), Millard West (Peterson), Papillion-LaVista (Williams), Blair (Soukup), York (Snodgrass). Several of these programs are in a tough spot right now, others have transitioned fairly seamlessly. Its a tough thing to predict.

Then a few programs that had long established coaches that left several years ago and the programs haven't quite recovered
Beatrice (Sexton) and Crete (McGinnis) to name a few.

I don't follow - what's so interesting about this hire? I'm assuming Brahmer told Suckstorf that he lost the locker room.

If Legate was also on staff that would mean he was part of losing the locker room, or the head coach and assistants were pulling in different directions. I guess that's what is interesting to me.

I'm guessing Legate is more likely to run the program how Brahmer wants it. He is the micromanaging GM now. I understand Brahmer's success and his great coaching career. But either step away or just keep coaching the team.

From what I understand of the situation the head coach and the assistants were not on the same page.

That's what I have heard as well. That and some carry over parents from the Brahmer era are upset things aren't the way they "used to be"

Thought Legate should have taken the gig when Brahmer hung it up.

I've heard a lot of good things about Suckstorf, hope he can land on his feet in a different environment.

Agreed but Legate is also the head wrestling coach - I think it's tough to be the head coach in 2 sports, let alone on back to back seasons.

It is tough. Suckstorf is also the girls basketball coach in Pierce, so he is/was in the same boat.

That is correct - I don't think I would have signed up to be both coming into that situation. But everyone is different.

I think Coach Suckstorf is staying in Pierce and will remain head girls basketball coach.

With Legate, when Brahmer retired from coaching, he was focused on his family and new children at home, he was already head wrestling coach and wanted to still be able to be a dad without the having to miss their entire childhood being head coach of football and wrestling. I think he probably feels he is at a good spot where he can now balance coaching and family and that he is able to give his all to both.

That is the reason I heard on why Legate was not going to take it when Brahmer stepped down.

Legate sounds like he do a great job. From what I understand, both are good coaches. Sometimes pieces fit better in different places. Hope it works out
