1) Alabama – It’s not rocket science, but when you have most of your offense back including Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, Julio Jones, and the best coach in the country in Nick Saban, repeating as Cream Champs seems to be the obvious choice. However, Alabama has to play many SEC games against opponents coming off of a bye week which may take its toll on the Tide. The Stallion was a little disappointed that ESPN did not ask Saban how it felt to win the Cream Trophy last year. I’ve been told that Terrence Cody ate the trophy before he went to the NFL combine.

2) LSU – Obviously, the huge question mark is Dy-NO-mite Jordan Jefferson. The weapons around JJ are tremendous, and if Billy Gonzalez can help minimize the 3rd and long situations with JJ not taking worthless sacks, and if LSU can re-establish its once potent ground attack, they could surprise a lot of doubters. LSU will be strong on defense led by Shepherd and Peterson. Let’s face it – the Tigers are getting no respect based on the QB position and having another year under the belt should only help … right? The Tiiigaaahhhs will find out quickly on Labor Day weekend what they’ve got. They also have a brutal schedule with UNC, WVA, Florida, and the SEC West – no easy road.

3) Florida – Again, a QB question mark for unproven John Brantley. We’ve heard the hype but can he deliver? However, Florida has a ton of speed and a coach that matches Saban with wit and leadership. What will be interesting is how Florida handles 3rd and shorts without Mr. Jorts.

4) Arkansas – Mallet this and Mallet that. Of course it doesn’t matter if Arky can’t stop anyone which was the big issue with the Razorbacks last year. The SEC proves year in and year out that if you can’t play defense you won’t be ultimately successful.

5) Auburn – Again, another team with high expectations. But are these high expectations based solely on the fact that the War Eagles narrowly lost to the defending national champs or that they got prize recruit and newcomer, Cam Newton. However, losing Ben Tate and a porous Auburn defense a year ago are things that Cheezstick’s boys will have to straighten out before making a run in the heavy laden SEC west.

7) Georgia – Can you feel that heat Mark Richt? The Hedges feel a little tighter In Athens as the door appears to be closing. Unless Richt has a miracle on defense, the Stallion predicts an end to the Richt era.

9) Ole Miss – It’s only fitting that there is a Jeremiah playing for the Reverend. Ole Miss is undoubtedly getting no respect this year with the losses of Snead, McCluster and Shay Hodge. However, Nutt seems to pull out his magic wand when things look the bleakest. Ole Miss loses a lot of talent, but the defense, especially on the defensive line is a strong point for the Rebs. Again, the QB questions circulate at Ole Miss and coming off the embarrassing Egg Bowl loss in 2009 to MSU, the Rebs are slipping in the rankings.

Even states that #4 won't be successful. So is it a down year for the SEC if #4 isn't successful?

MSU next to last? Puh-lease.

LSU #2? No way?

Auburn that low?

The cream will rise. Hopefully. Right now its just a random mixture of teams.

What is UT doing at #8? They are going to be awful this year and should at the very least be behind Ole Miss, a team that schellacked them last year while they still had some of this NFL talent you mentioned. While it's true that OM lost McCluster and a few others to the NFL as well, UT isnow building their program"the right way" with "character guys" whilst running off "thugs" like #1 recruit Bryce Brown, which werecall from the Croom Erroras code for "bend over and grease up". Nutt went out and did what was right for the business in getting Massoli. Big difference in program attitudes.

Adjust your Cream. Where do you put LSU if they fall to the heels in week 1?

that **** was as strong as a garlic milkshake...

correction: LSU was awaytoo high...

TUSK has the conference broken down as follows:

BCSC Contenders- Bama and Florida
Tier Two - Georgia, S. Carolina, Arkansas &Auburn
Tier Three - LSU & Tennessee (LSU is much better, schedule is tougher)
Grove Divsion - MSU & Mississippi (MSU will win the Egg Bowl)
Celler - UK & Vandy

Tennessee upgraded in coaching, Ole Miss still has Nutt.

UT has much, much better athletes than does Mississippi.

UM will not win at Neyland.... I'll bet Coach34's Balls on it....

I knew there was a reason I voted no.

Hell, I don't expect us to win the conference and probably be barely over .500 if that but 10?

Heis unproven. All heaccomplished at La Tech was beat Croom. Big deal. He was 17-20 there. I suppose that's an upgrade over a guy who was a career 12-21 coach (seriously, how did he land the USC job?!??), but Dooley hasn't proven **** yet.Knoxville is a slightly larger stage than Ruston.

I hope TN squashes Ole Miss but that's late in the season. It may depend on depth because both teams are thin in key spots. When you say that UT has much, much better calibre of athtlete than Mississippi, I just don't see it. Turn back the clock to 1998, sure, but Tennessee's golden era is over. Tennessee hasn't been coming into Mississippi and cherry picking recruits like Parys Haralson and Will Overstreet in some time.

Nutt is at least proven. He has been to Atlanta. You know what you are getting: a creepy, bat-**** crazy Arkansan who overperforms when he's not supposed to and underperforms when national expectations are there.

Neyland is always a tuff place to play but I predict that the air will be out of the baloon (4-5) at that point in the season and the Vols will be discouraged and very beatable.

You're no different than the rest of us. Your bold prediction centers on the team you cheer for. What balls. Although I do agree with it to a certain extent, the rest of your rankings are merely an unjustified cluster presented to generate responses based on placement without adequate backing. You're no more risky or bold than 70% of this board. Cream doesn't require such phoniness. Your style is good, but your depth is incomplete... and your predictions might as well be sweet and low. Let's hope the crop of your efforts still await the rise to prominence from which you preach.

LSU has as much talent as any other team. If JJ gets it going, who's to argue that LSU lacks any more talent than any other team in the SEC. They have been in the top 10 in recruiting the past 5 years plus and are loaded at most every position except QB which is the question mark. Every other team in the SEC has a ton of question marks about them as well. LSU was awful on offense last year because of poor QB decision making and a weak offensive line and still won 9 games and was the 3rd best team in the conference last year. Both areaswill improve tremendously this year.

There is no denying that. Every year there seems to be a hodge podge of teams. Those top 5have truly a lot of questions (even Bama on defense believe it or not and that brutal schedule of havingto play so many teams after a bye week - simply brutal).LSU manhandled Auburn last year and beat Arkansas. I don't think LSU got weaker than last year. They were one of the worst offensive teams in the country and put up huge numbers on both defenses last year.

Also I never said no. 4 wasn't going to be successful. I just pointed out that Arkansas's defense is a HUGE question and I think most of the writeres, fans and readers would agree that if you are porous on defense you are doomed to win theconference or even theWest.

I would love to see State make a run this year just like the rest of the board. I get a Madkin feel with Relf. I don't know...call it a Stallion's intuition. He may turn out to be the man, and if he does State will climb.

"Does the Stallion really think Masoli could be the face of the SEC? Only if the Bullfrog steals a few more laptops, or hooks up with a couple of Rebellettes at the same time in the locker room at halftime and gets busted for it would he become the face of the SEC with all honesty."

Is this Masoli's nickname or are you now writing for ESPN?

Tennessee at No. 8 has never had a shortage of athletes. I think the SEC will be surprised with Dooley. La. Tech was awful in the talent pool yet they were a competitive team under Dooley (record doesn't show it). Were they great every year? No. Not to mention Dooley is a Saban disciple and I fully believe that has earned his some credit points there. Tennessee may turn out to be the worst team in the conference, and I won't hesitate to drop them if they blow up in the season. I debated on moving them to No. 10 a few times when I put the rankings together, but then I thought to myself head-to-head who would I pick right now. UT over UM and MSU. MSU has shown that they couldn't beat UT when UT was down under Croom and maybe Mullen would be the difference there. I recognize UT is down on offense this year. In all honesty, they were down on offense last year led by Crompton, and still made it to a bowl and hada decent season.

To answer the LSU question if they lose to UNC - It all depends on performance and how ugly it looked. If you ask the Stallion "Are you confident with LSU at No. 2?" My answer would be no. The JJ factor is huge. But I would have that answer about UF, Arky, and Auburn at No. 2 as well. They all have huge question marks. Even Bama does on defense. That's why preseason polls are almost like rolling dice. I am confident about LSU's talent level. That receiving corp and defensive backfield are both incredible groups. The OL will be much improved led by Barksdale. And they have a preseason All American at LB. A lot of talent at LSU if they can get the QB's mind in the right place.

Comments -

Be careful on Bama - that defense could be more vulnerable than you think.

Your tier 2 has as much questions as LSU at Tier 3 esp. with UGA and that horrendous defense from last year. Arky's wasn't any better. South Carolina is interesting though. They just historically meltdown at the end of the season every year. I agree about LSU's schedule. At least 7 to 8 ranked teams (UF, WVA, UNC, Aub., Bama, Arky, UGA, SC) is tought to overcome.

it's not like the Stallion is going to each campus and gathering data to justify the preseason rankings. The rankings in the preseason are based on soley reading articles on the strenghts and weaknesses, listening to interviews of writers and coaches, watching a few spring games, and last year's performaance has to play a part in the preseason rankings. So in that part if the board makes its rankings off of that data, then I'm no different. Some has to be gut feel, too. It's really no different than other writers around the SEC and country. Do you not think Tim Brando drinks the Ole Miss Kool-Aid or kisses Saban's *** like no other. There's a little bias in some of the picks around the conference by any writer. The SEC is a competitive conference and a play here or there can change the outcome dramatically. And that's why we love FOOTBALL!

I don't have a problem with our placement, we haven't proved anything yet. I think putting Ole Miss ahead of us based on a QB transfer is pretty silly considering what they lost and the problems they will have with both lines, but whatever. But putting LSU at two shows you don't know what the +#!! you are talking about or are just such a homer you can't be objective. Either way, kinda sad.

To me the only team that has proven itself is UF at No. 3 over LSU, but Brantley will have growing pains undoubtedly as a first year QB. LSU rolled Auburn last year and handled Arkansas. They haven't really lost any significant players from last year's team other than Charles Scott, Ciron Black who was disappointing, and Brandon LaFell.

All are easilyreplaceable.I throw out my justifications to support my rankings and also discuss my questions/concerns about the teams.

Brantley, in limited play his first two years, has 10 TDs and 1 INT. He hasn't had a lot of PT but the boy can play football. He also has a really good team of proven players around him with only a few question marks. LSU on the other hand has two QBs, one of who has started 2 games ad the other who has started 0. Neither of them as impressive as Brantley. You also have Les Miles. I think he is a good coach but he seems to be good for at least one loss a year by doing something stupid.

Then there is Arkansas. I can kind of understand you rating them down just based on them finding a way to under achieve every year, but they have a better team than LSU this year. The top QB in the SEC coupled with a strong team can not be rated below a LSU team with no proven QB and a lot of questions. You guys are an Auburn quality team this year. I would be hesitant to put you above them but I would. As i said before I can't put a lot of stock into a high profile QB transfer (helooooo Schaffer!).

Bama, Florida, Arkansas, then I would argue between Georgia and LSU.

Can't argue with Bama 1.
LSU has as much talent as anyone but Bama and Fla, and while the Gators are breaking in a new unproven QB he has more upside than any of the mediocre QBs LSU will trot out there and Urb is head and shoulders better than Les. Based on that, I would have to move Fla to the 2.
Based on talent alone, LSU can hold the 3 spot.
Arky, Aub, USC and UGA are anyone's guess at 4-7.
I think State is better than OM based on the game last year and what each lost/returns.
So we will slot them 8 and 9.
Tenn is a train wreck right now, but better than KY/Vandy so they go 10.
KY 11
and Vandy 12

LSU at #2 is about as crazy as Miles time management at the end of the Ole Miss game last year.

I agree until someone knocks off AL they are #1
Who else would you put at #2 other than the Gators. Yes they lost some on Offense, and defense but so did everyone else, and there is only one other tem in the SEC that has the same talent pool and they are #1.
#3, #4, #5 in no particular order isSouth Carolina, LSU, and Georgia. LSU is here only because of their talent level(at every position except QB). S.C., and Georgia are going to be tough this year I think.
#6 Arkansas is a pick a lot of people are making to be the surprise team of the SEC. Here is deal, unless they can put together a good defense, forget it. Their defense cost them games last year, and until they prove they have fixed it there is no way you can put them any higher.
#7 Auburn goes next, they started off the year last year hot, but then kinda puttered, until they can put together a consistent year, they have to have question????
#8 Miss State will be the surprise team of the year in the SEC. I would pick them to win against every team below them here, and even may upset a couple of the ones I have placed in front of them. They will have a winning season this year, and they will go to a bowl game MARK IT DOWN.
#9 Ole Miss until they got the criminal I would have put Tenn here, but he definitely adds another weapon to Ole Miss Offense, which they desperately needed.
#10 Tenn Lane Kiffin royally left Tenn in a 17'ing mess. You have players leaving, players disgusted with the situation, hopefully Dooley can turn it around for them, but until you see him with that kind of talent you never know.
#11 Kentucky new coach, hard to put them any higher.
#12 Vandy, new coach, and it's Vandy. Nough said.

for the first time in more than a decade, MSU *** whipped LSU in every facet of the game except the stuid hiccup at the end that had LSU taking a most undeserved win... whipped yall's asses in the trenches and those trenches are back again this year...

***** slapped ole miss in the egg bowl..

with all that we have coming back, and a coach that has proven he has what it takes with a 180 degree turnaround for MSU

and you predict ole miss ahead of us?... your posts are always entertaining but that prediction borders on retardation.. you must still be pissed about watching our linemen on both sides of the ball last year push those tigas around for 4 quarters...

Wouldn't you say? If you move LSU down to 3, it isn't far off from 2. You also used very similar arguements on my concerns which is my justification for each ranking. Brantley scored a lot of his TDs in a mop-up role against sorry teams. I want to see it week-in and week-out. I agree with a lot of your comments however.

You don't know what you're 17-ing talking about moving State to No. 8. LSU at No. 6 is laughable. Take off your maron skid-marked underwear Homeboy! Hide your kids, hide your wife and yo' husband too!

PS I expect my check in the mail this week :)

and the schedule this year is much harder than last year.Your Tiiiggggaaaahhhhss will be lucky to finish 7-5. I'm calling for losses to Bama, Florida, WV, Arkansas, and Auburn. I'm not even ruling out a possible upset from the likes of OM orMSU. You will beat UNConly because their entire defense may be suspended/ineligible for the game. Is it not painfullyclear to your fanbase yet thatMiles is a complete idiot?

otherwise that's just one game State happened to be on and LSU really off. LSU beat Auburn mercifully, Arkansas and UGA last year yet everyone wants to slam the Tigers based on the State game as a data point. As I recall Auburn and Arky hammered State, both teams that LSU beat last year. Is State moving in the right direction - YES. No denying it - but prove it this year and prove the Stallion wrong.

I would put LSU at #5.
#3 would be South Carolina.
#4 would be Geaorgia.
#5 would be LSU.
Honestly I have predicted LSU to win only 7-8 games this year, I think JJ will not improve, and that Les Miles will pull more of his absent minded coaching. At the end of the year ya'll will fire Les Miles, and start over.

Here is the deal we can talk all day long about what we believe will happen, but in all honesty until they strap on the chin straps, and knock each others heads off, and the dust settles at the end it is all just our own opinions. And we all know what opinions are like, and everybody has one.

Good luck this year, and we will see at the end.
