Heard an interesting rumor today. Word has it that Will Hall (current OC for

Bobby Wallace at West Alabama and the son of one Bobby Hall) will be on the MSU coaching staff in some capacity. This really would not surprise me. This kid knows football and will one day be a big time head coach or coordinator. He grew up with a football in his hands and spent a many a day at a field house watching film. He played at NWCC and then won the heisman equivalent in DII at UNA a few years ago. He knows Mississippi football really well. I would assume he's linked to Hudspeth. The only thing that does surprise me somewhat is that he and his Dad bleed red/blue, the Ole Miss version. However, this may be the break he's been looking for, so we shall see.

It's really weird to me that we have a guy from Florida as the HC, and all of these assistant coaches from the past keep popping up. Felker and Bobby Wallace? Back again? Who's next? Tom Goode and Wooky Gray? We're going to be running the spread with Felker's old staff.

Are we going to have Jackie and Joe Lee back in about 10 years?

I actually kind of like the idea of Will Hall being on the staff. You would think that he could actually, ya know show up at Madison Central to recruit from time to time. And beyoond that, maybe recruit the Jackson area.

As long as ROCKEY is around this all we're gonna get. %*%$ rockey get out of the way and lets get some new blood in here to get us back to our "glory days." Rockey is hurting us more than helping...I say no administrative position or position coach....clean the slate. He's hurting us more than helping. He failed as a head coach and as a position coach to tip toe dixon. The sooner we get rid of this little ***** the better off we'll be. And everybody said.....

Wrong IMO LAdawg. He doesn't have to be a coach on the field, but he should be involved with Bulldog football in some way. Maybe some kind of ambassador or something along those lines. Rockey is a good man and would do anything to promote Bulldog football any way he can. If you could get to know him personally you might think a little different.

no way he would come up with these names on his own. As long as he has final approval on them, it's not necessarily a bad thing.

I can agree with that, but I must admit, some of these choices make it appear Mullen is not picking his own staff.

The dude does a wonderful job, but following your line of thinking, would you say someone besides Nutt picked Austin?

Seems like I recall Nutt hired Austin after interviewing some others.

To me there is a difference in one coach and several.

he's been. Trying to remember whether he was originally hired by Carl Maddox or Templeton. Templeton was AD when he came back after being out of football and trying to sell insurance. It's difficult to believe that he could have a positive influence on the football program at this juncture...he may be a good man and a bulldog at heart, but he needs to go as far away as they can put him from having any influence on the program. He's a typical example of the "good ole' boy" in operation at State.

I'm 100% sure that Rockey is a "nice" person, but if he is interfering with our football program getting better, he needs to move along. Tommy Raffo was a "nice" person to, but I would be willing to bet he wouldn't help us in baseball, even in an ambassador role. And because someone is nice, that's not a reason to keep someone around.

Felker has gotten a LOT of mileage out of beating Memphis State in 1974.

why I wanted someone with HC coaching experience- so that they would bring in a lot of their staff.

Our coaching staff right now is like a weird conglomeration of Byrne- Mullen, sixpack- Hudspeth and Genespage- Koenning, Felker, Reed Stringer, and David Turner- and then you throw Melvin Smith in there.

This is nuts.

If you want a "clean slate" then you cannot ***** about "no loyalty to Mississippi State" when folks either jump ship or do things you do not agree with. Just because you run off everybody including the grass cutters, you have no guarantee that the new folks are any smarter than those they replaced. Mullen appears to be working on a mix of offensive folks with his same ideas but mixing in some new blood at the same time. Good grief, let the man alone and let him pick his troops. They will be either a solid group with success or his firing squad.....

Did you forget Koenning?

What about the rest?

How many of them have coached with Mullen?

If you're going to stalk, at least have your facts in order first.

What?

So Mullen has to have coached with every single guy on his staff? Koenning and Mullen have had a long friendship, and they havent coached together. It might shock you that people know other people outside of their own company.

Has he coached with any of them?

Regarding the coaches that have been hired or not reassigned, how many have MSU ties? Looks like all of them to me.

How many of them have ties to Mullen? So far, looks like none of them to me.

If you want to have your opinion that's fine, but my opinion is that to this point.....someone else is pulling the strings.

From my viewpoint, it's pretty obvious Byrne brought in Hudspeth, Rockey brought in Koenning and someone with ties to MSU is apparently still talking up Melvin, Reed, etc.

Have a Merry Christmas.

The common denominator with the staff hires thus far has been connections with the state of Mississippi - not anything or anyone else. Hudspeth and Koenning both have Mississippi connections and are both great offensive coaches. Melvin, Felker, Turner, and Stringer are probably the best recruiters off of Croom's staff so it makes sense for trying to keep this recruiting class to keep some of the previous staff. Croom cleaned house when Jackie was fired and his first recruiting class reflected that. I seriously doubt that Mullen does not have the baseline decision when it comes to staff positions.

Don't know why Felker gets ripped so much on this board. Also, I looked it up... he never even coached Gary Hollingsworth (Josh's uncle) - nor did he sign him at Alabama. Gary was a senior in '89-90 - same year as Felker's 5th at MSU. Some of you guys are idiots if you seriously think Felker had a say in what quarterbacks we signed under Croom/Woody, and if he did that he would sign a nephew of a kid that he never even coached?

You could be right, but most coaches 'save' that termination for when the seat gets hot.

Can't say that I blame them.

You are so dumb.

How many of the coaches that have not been reassigned have msu ties? Did you really just try to make that point? Wouldnt the fact that they were on staff be an msu tie?

Also, Dan Mullen is a young freaking guy. Of course he hasnt coached with everyone he is going to hire. Koenning and Mullen have had a long friendship and have similiar philosophies. Did Nutt coach with Austin, tyrone nix, derrick nix, etc? Of course not. Does that mean someone else was pulling the strings on the hires? No

If you honestly think Rocky freaking Felker has enough stroke to name the OC under Dan Mullen, then you are dumber than you make yourself look.

P.S. If you actually think Hudspeth wasn't hired before Mullen, you're dumber than I think.

how many have previous ties to Ole Miss.

One: Kent Austin.

Now, out of the current MSU staff and those that appear to be hired soon/retained, how many have MSU ties?

I think you'll find that its quite a few more than one.

It would be nice to have one thread about coaching staff rumors that is not highjacked by a bunch of $*!%!@@ ******* Ole Miss fans.
