Spoke with a Southern Miss guy today who said it's still on the table.
The Thursday night game is not an issue. The fact CWS is also a parking lot for students etc. There are complexities to manage. If the logistics can be worked out satisfactorily, the game may be scheduled as rumored.

Somebody explain to me how Louisville playing Charlotte on Sept 1 would have any influence over whether we play Southern Miss on the same day?

Would Louisville's game even be televised?....I doubt it, since the ACC has no network to speak of.

Yes, I'm very aware of the over saturation of college football on network television, but thats exactly my point.

If the Louisville game is seemingly destined for ESPN3 or some other internet only platform along with other mega matchups like Connecticut v Maine, or Utah State v Weber then again my point is why would that have any influence over whether or not Kentucky moves their game to again seemingly a broadcast network television spot on one of the ESPN's or SEC Network.

I mean if they wind up moving it, only to eventually be slotted on ESPN3, why do it?

no, false. you are speaking from the point of view of your ****** acc conference tv contract. no SEC football game of any kind will ever be on internet only broadcast, it will be on an ESPN platform, period.

I'll say again, if UK has any say in the matter their decision will come down to: "better home crowd (probably) on Saturday vs. better exposure on Thursday". As discussed in other threads this is a very important game for UK and they will want every advantage they can get. As such, I would think staying on Saturday would be UK's choice but, as we all know, these decisions are really made by the network gods.

Saturday is absolutely loaded with many excellent cross conference match ups (at least 6 involving SEC teams) and UK-USM would barely rate a notice on the score crawls at the bottom of the screen. OTOH, the only game of interest (i.e., P5 vs P5) on Thursday night are SC at Vandy and OR State at MN). ESPN could put 1 game on BIG or SEC Network and other 2 games on ESPN and the Deuce. UofL playing on Thursday has zero impact about UK game possibly moving to Thursday.

Reading all the back and forth on this thread, I'll predict that the UK-SMU game will be a 12N kickoff on Sat 9/3 and it will be shown on the alternate SEC network channel,

Lack of Conference Network...on the other hand the ACC will receive $45 Million from ESPN according to the fact no network has been announced by 1 July 2016...this is according to Wes Durham of Raycom Sports...part of the 5 year look in clause in the ACC-ESPN deal...but the Louisville-Charlotte game will be likely seen by those not in the stadium anywhere in the nation...on your phone, iPad, Tablet...etc...etc

Very valid point...you would only move it if it is on the SEC Network.

One time payment for every look in which is every 5 years...fact of the matter in the P5 it is The B1G #1 and the SEC #2 in revenue and even long term it more than likely the B1G will leave even the SEC in the dust...if it all about revenue the B1G should be dominating on the field & court..the Big XII, ACC & Pac 12 are behind those two in the $25 Million per school range...what the ACC can say it done very well in both Men Basketball and Football on the field...it is up to John Swofford to do a better job in generating revenue...

Yep. We made fun of them for playing the Tulane and Army's On Tuesday's in front of about 20,000 fans on national TV, LOL. The whole country was pointing and laughing. Thursday night games have been a College Football tradition for years.
There were never Tuesday or Wednesday night games. Get real.

After you all have constantly ridiculed Louisville playing weeknight games? Hilarious.

Everyone plays Weekday games...the Pac 12 and ACC also play on Fridays-(and IMO more P5 will do the same..The NFL is taking over Thursday's)...it was a silly talking point and even sillier now.

There absolutely were. Get your facts straight. Thursday night has always been a good night modern college football. UL invented football on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

so very representative of the typical UL fan. history and knowledge of their own damn program at best go back 18 months. the amount of UL fans who followed the program before Johnelle Smith was hired was astoundingly small. a bunch of transplant out of towners relocated there because of their or their families corporate jobs front runners, that is UL fanbase. and it confuses and angers them that UK fan is not as shallow and front running as they are.

UofL has played on every night. I recall saying that when I believe the Wednesday night game concluded the cycle.

But they were also a key player in establishing the Thursday night game tradition. As of the 2012 season UofL was tied for 7th for most Thursday night appearances (17). I believe the most watched Thursday Night game is still the 2006 game between #5 UofL and #3 WVA.

Good try but Thursday night football games have been going on for two decades. Louisville didn't help establish ****.
Regular Thursday night programming began in 1992. UofL first played a Thursday night game in 1994 versus BC. Through last season they have played a total of 24 Thursday night games. Do you mean UofL has played their Thursday night games after Thursday night ball was an established success? [winking]

For us it would be a novelty...for you it was a way of life in an also ran conference.

Well in the end it was worth it....went from C-USA-(Tuesday/Wednesday Games) to the ACC and a extremely likely Preseason Top 25 Football Ranking in 2016...Louisville, TCU & Utah took advantage of those week night games and are now in P5 leagues.

Folks, these are all rather pointless comments. The truth is playing on weekday nights provides national exposure to programs who often would have little exposure. I'm not a fan or supporter of UofL, but they did what they had to do to elevate their program from a little noticed league to the ACC. Their success is built on a manner we find repugnant. Yet, they are successful and until we can take them down, their "succeed at all costs" has made a number of highly successful programs lose to their method of winning. So, whether we play during the week or Saturday makes no difference. Winning solves everything.

When it comes to ul, I likely am the most tolerant on this board as my daughter went to school there, played in the marching band, went to the bowl games, etc....ul treated my daughter well; anyone that does that rates in my book. Heck, I even have a ul sticker on my car (results of betting on UK to cover a spread). I have gone to ul games and even pulled for them. I will agree with tj's approach to building a Football program. He started playing nobody schools in a weak conference. Built momentum and maintained it by having a win at all costs attitude. (personally, when it comes to Football, I have no problem with that). I don't have a problem with most ul fans...just those that have inferiority complexes that feel like they have to attack the state school....they are tormented because recognize they can't live with the fact no matter what their team does, it will always get an "Oh, that's nice" from the rest of the state and pretty much the rest of the country...they are always on the attack because their "fan self-worth" is based on the recognition and acceptance of people from whom they will never get it.

Like I said, no problem with most ul fans. Just those with mental problems. No problem with the fans that support their team and are not always trying to tear down another...same with UK fans.

Nah, UK Football fan/season ticket holder almost 30 years....Just don't hate ul. They were good to my kid.

Oh, and by the way, my daughter was still a Ky Football fan while playing in ul's marching band. I used to tell her to show her true colors by playing a flat note during the fight song. She didn't do it.

How hard is it to be a UK fan and a UofL student? My son is a huge UK fan and will start at UofL in the fall. Half his wardrobe is UK Blue. I am assuming that would not be acceptable attire for walking around campus. When we did his visit, even the administrators who we met had a pretty big UK chip on their shoulder. They would occasionally point out things that they did better than "the school up the road".

She was smart enough not to flaunt it on campus. The same that it probably wouldn't be smart for a kid to flaunt his ul fandom around UK's campus. Granted, she also became a supporter of ul football. My four kids have all gone to four different universities. One went to UK and loved it. The others didn't care for it saying it was impersonal. From the day my daughter stepped on the ul campus, they treated her like I'd want my daughter to be treated.

That is about what I was thinking. I just hope he doesn't turn into a UofL fan. That would be a tough pill to swallow.

Pretty well covered and your ignorance pointed out, but I wasted my time looking up a couple years schedules also. In 2001 UL started the season a week early on August 23rd on a Thursday and had FIVE games that weren't on Saturday, in 2002 they had a Tuesday night game against Memphis on Oct 8th with a Sunday and Thursday games, in 2003 a Wednesday game (among others) you must have missed.

The thing that really bothered me though was all the Friday night games on High Schools night, that probably helped shut down a lot of high school programs, and they were a pioneer in that.

I agree I never understood why you would want to play on a Friday night. Yes getting nation tv can be a good thing, but how much does it help when 99 percent of the kids looking at your school for football is having a game that night.

IMO, college Football is the world's greatest sport. I can't get enough of it. That said, while I'd love to be able to watch games every night of the week, playing on Friday night can ultimately be detrimental to the sport. If high school Football is the only Football to watch on Friday nights, fans are more likely to attend those games. But like me, if there's a college game on, there's a strong possibility I'll stay home and watch the college game.
