*OEM, Extreme, c34, fishwater, Thick... you guys can post in the 40 threads you made at halftime.

I really thought that when Barry Stewart single-handedly gave OM an 8 point swing (missed 3 FTs, missed layup, didn't get back and man hit an open 3) that the game was over.

The decision to back out of the lane and give Bost the 1-on-1 against Warren or Gaskins was an outstanding play call...

If Stewart could hit FTs or layups we would have had a double digit win against a top 20 team on the road.

Stansbury coached a HELL of a game. pulling out the zone was great.

Great coaching and Dee Bost and Swat took over the 2nd half.

I thought it was over too highpoint when Randy did that, but we hung in there. As Stans says we were tougher than they were in the 2nd half. And for all his bone-headed plays, Kodi still had a double-double. He might be the most frustrating player ever.

All in all, great win on the road against a ranked opponent. Nice resume win. Oh and how about Ravern's dunk..that was bad ***

...something clicked in the 2nd half for MSU (coaching, hustle, making plays...whatever).

Here's a somewhat depressing thought: If we would have beaten Western Kentucky, MSU would be ranked come Monday.

First let me say that I'm very happy with the win, and yes, Stans made some excellent moves today. But like I posted in another thread, this win will look much less impressive in about a month. This Ole Miss team just isn't very good. How they have the record that they do is beyond me. Typical of Kennedy teams, they don't defend or rebound.

I agree with you. Regardless it is an SEC road win that should help us win the West and with how bad the rest of the West is maybe try for the SEC title.

<div class="scrolling"> <div> im really sick of the countless post about how we are 17ing terrible anytime a team goes on an 8-0 run...its bball people its a game of runs especially the way we play. we have a good team and while this is only one win it clearly puts in the drivers seat in the west and will look great on the resume come march. some of yall just need to back away from the computer until the clock hits zero.

and another thing post like "barry just missed 3 fts..nm" thank you, we're watching the same game you are you really dont need to make a post about it </div> </div>

I think when Kodi realizes he can get more points crashing the boards than "creating" from the three-line this team can be formidable. As for JV, I loved his play down the stretch. But time and again, in his 4th season no less, he takes a pass or rebound and brings the damn ball to his knees (if not the floor). Why can't he learn that big men don't do that? Gotta go right back up with it big man! That having been said, a great game, and a sweet win.

How does OM keep getting these good rankings(football now bb)? They are a pretty good team but certainly not 14. Stans did do a good job of making adjustments. Glad he turned Bost loose down the lane. Good zone defense too.

I just don't understand the walks.. why is he so uncomfortable with the ball.

He gets bumped and hit and loses control. He will get tougher and better as time goes on. Everything in life takes time and we as fans always want to hurry it up but time is time.

We could use the RPI, but this team doesn't deserve to be ranked. More importantly, they need to play like they have something to prove.

I disagree to an extent. I don't think Ole Miss is a top 16 team. But they've had a great SEC home record under Kennedy. I don't know stats for the last few years, but I imagine that it's one of the top two or three in the conference. 18-6 going into this year, and 3 of those came last year with lots of players hurt. I also think that the West sucks, and Ole Miss isn't a bad team. I see them winning 10 games if they don't lose to terrible teams on the road. That'll keep their status pretty high. Plus beating them right now is huge for an immediate response. We'll probably get more votes in the poll than we've gotten all season, even with the Western Kentucky loss.

Our players need to keep up the level of play they put out in the second half before their heads get big again. Mississippi State being ranked = us losing a game the very next week. That second half was great for us, coming back from 7 down on the road is the kind of win you need for a team to gel. What a huge game from Bost, it is so much fun to watch a player get in the zone like that. I think all of our players are starting to understand their roles, and there wasn't a whole lot of standing around on offense in the second half. I can't wait for the Arkansas game Thursday.

This win will be a great win for us, how many more games do you think Ole Miss will lose? Regardless, it is a road win in the SEC, they are ranked and our archrival. There aren't many better wins to be had for the rest of this season, so we have to take what we can get. We will be fine at the end of the year, and it does no good to worry about RPIs at this point in the year. Wins are the most important stat.

Because we took care of business in OOC play, didn't take a bad loss, and had one good win over a Kansas State that subsequently went on a tear of good wins.

We rode KSU's tail to a higher ranking as they piled up good wins and we failed to take a bad loss.

I said before that we were not a Top 15 team. We have the potential to be a Top 25 team though. We just aren't there yet. I can tell we've made progress though. Our defense looks a lot better than it did early in the year, and we are rebounding better. The offense, as well, is coming together. We just ran into a tough one in the second half where we couldn't break down MSU's 2-3 zone. Getting the ball inside didn't work because of JV, and when we did get open perimeter looks, we didn't knock down enough of them to get you out of the zone.

I'm hoping we can put it all together, but we're still a somewhat young team that hasn't gelled yet. We have potential to be better, and I think we will by the end of the year. We'll see if we do find that identity.

Ole Miss doesn't lose to the WKU's and Rider's and that's why they have a great ranking.

As for the coaches, I am not sold that Stansbury outcoached AK. Ole Miss plays consistently good basketball every game and every half and that's why they are a good team. If Stans was such a great coach we wouldn't have such a discrepency in play between halfs. In the first half we looked like the same State team all year....settling for 3's, not going inside, not crashing the boards, running our patented weave on top of the key. Then in the second half we looked like the freaking Lakers. I just don't understand how that happens so often.

With all that being said, I am pumped about the win today. Big win on the road in a hostile environment. Bost and Varnado looked great as did Augustus. We need to give Augustus a break. He scored a lot of points today including the huge putback. I agree he needs to just post up down low and stay there and stay away from the 3point line, but I assure you we are a better team with him than without him.

And as far as I'm concerned I definitely see State and UM finishing 1-2 in the west.
