Been watching this game since 3:30 AM. Been one heck of a game so far. Not giving anything away to those who had DVR-ed the final.

I live on this side of the world so its nice to be able to watch a live sporting event in prime time for a change.

This match has been fantastic, but if you caught any of the Nadal vs Verdasco Semi Friday night, that was one for the ages! 5+ hours that had me on the edge of my seat - and I'm not even a huge tennis fan.

Nadal is just a freakin' machine. How does he play that 5 hour slugfest 48 hours ago and then come out and go toe to toe for 5 sets with arguably the greatest player ever (and have the lead as of this posting...). Amazing...

Borg had Connors number, McEnroe comes along and gets Borg's number. Borg couldn't handle it and retired around 26. Going to be interesting to see how Federer handles it.

Fed plays fine during most of the points, but when he gets a break point he goes into a shell for some reason. In that 3rd set he had 0-40 on Nadal's serve and didn't try once to hit a bomb to get the easy break. He returns got safer instead. In that kind of match if you want to win, you have to take it and Nadal seems to rise up to the big points more often.

There's just something inside Fed that makes him question if he's really capable of beating Nadal and it affects his game at the crucial moments - 5th sets or big break points. Thought this time would be different as in the 2nd set on a big break point he ran around a serve to take it as a forehand and cracked a winner. Then didn't do it again the rest of the match.

He choked in the 3rd set, which he dominated but blew 8 or so break points. Nadal is so far in his head it's pathetic. Federer almost never attacked Nadal's second serve the whole match, even though Nadal's serve was the most predictable I've ever seen in pro tennis. He served to Federer's backhand 90% of the time for the whole match and his second serve was weak. But all Federer did the whole match was push it back into play instead of attacking it. He maybe attacked that second serve a half dozen times in 5 sets. If he couldn't beat Nadal yesterday, you have to wonder if he ever will again.

Also, congrats to former Mississippi All-American Mahesh Bhupathi for winning the mixed doubles title with Sania Mirza and for reaching the men's doubles final before losing to the Bryans. If he'd won that match, it would have given him a career Grand Slam in both men's doubles and mixed doubles. Pretty impressive.

with the exception of the berdych match, he just cruised to the finals of the australian open. he destroyed del potro and roddick in the quarters and semis. and it took 5 sets for nadal to beat him. i wouldn't close the book on him just yet.

it's ridiculous. federer could have (and maybe should have) won that match yesterday. like y'all have said, when there's a big point, it's like he just tightens up and doesn't go for the kill shot. which is amazing, because that's what makes federer so good against everyone else - he puts them away when there is an opening.

after the tiebreaker in the 3rd, i said federer had no chance. he was just walking around, like he didn't care about winning. i was surprised to see him dominate the 4th set like he did. if he had played that hard in the 3rd tiebreak, he wins in four. i didn't see the second half of the fifth, but i assume it looked a lot like the tiebreak in the 3rd.

i hope this is the year that federer beats nadal in a slam, but i just don't know. </p>
