football and y'all were not playing as well as y'all finished. Even at that, from what I heard, they got pretty lucky.

I think alot of times for the past 5 years, they sandbagged, fear-mongered and bull-headed their way toward sub-par records by forcing a tyrannical reign (WC offense) on our players, ignoring special teams and lumping all their hopes & dreams on the defense.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we got to 5, 6, or 7 wins in '09 with Mullen (will be tough with our '09 schedule though...) just by him coaching up our current players and putting some new players in the right positions (something Cr m & McCv y refused to do).

Also, just maybe, 2009 football for MSU might just be fun again with Mullen at the helm. A new/fun attitude in itself might propel us to win 1 or 2 games with Mullen which we would not have been able to with the apathy of the Cr m regime.</p>

I don't think we needed Dan Mullen to really expose Croom and McCorvey. They exposed themselves. I still don't understand the lack of recruiting in the o-line, ST's, QB, and WR. Especially with the offense that we were supposedly trying to run. I really think he thought he could win with walk-ons like the Bear did in the 70's. Problem is I bet there were maybe 3-4 walk-ons starting in the entire SEC. The players are just too good nowadays. You may have the biggest heart, the best technique, and hustle more than anyone on the entire team, and still not be able to tackle a guy like Percy Harvin because you can't coach speed.

I don't know that Croom was sandbagging, I think he had a knack for being aggressive when he should be conservative and being conservative when he should have been aggressive.

I guess sandbagging in terms of Cr m & co. always thinking and acting pessimistic. He thought "well, we are just not good enough, so I'm going to stick to this & I don't care what anybody says" type stuff.

His stubborness of not wanting to change & not wanting to try creative things offensively, defensively, etc. because that meant he would have to eat his words or eat crow to the fans or all of us who said he was clueless, over his head and needed to change.

I think he tried stuck to his guns(WC offense) by sandbagging us into thinking somehow players like Arceto Clark, Delmon Robinson, Arnil Stallworth, Charles Baily, and especially Robert Elliott were just not good enough in his mind. I don't know if anybody really bought into the fact that Elliott was riding the pine because his pass blocking skills were just not pretty enough for Cr m.

Ole Miss really should have beaten Wake, and I really think with Peria Jerry and Greg Hardy we would have.
