If UNC has been in trouble recently with the scandal, why are they 11-1 playing in the ACC championship game. Maybe I missed something so, please enlighten me. Make fun of me, be cruel, it really does not matter as long as I get an answer that makes sense. I am tough, I can handle it.

I am not sure, but I think the scandal relates to the basketball team. But even if relates to football, they haven't been hit yet. So whatever storm clouds on the horizon.....no effect yet. The NCAA is still "investigating".

Ok, I thought they had already served some time for a previous ruling. I must have been dreaming.

That was another cheating scandal. I think they vacated wins, got a couple of years probation, loss of scholarships and a postseason ban for 2012, and maybe another year.

Aha, thought there was something before. They seemed to have landed on their feet.

I do remember that but the big scandal was (and is) the fake class scandal. So far there have no consequences to that one. Since it's basketball related, chances are they come through it smelling like roses, as the NCAA will hesitate to place the smack on Carolina.

The fake classes covers about every sport on campus from my recollection.

The scandal involved fotball, mens and womens basketball. It was first brought to light by Julius Peppers and the football team was punished mildly and the jury is still out on what penalties the NCAA will enforce on the Tarheels. The non-classes went on over 20 years with over 50 percent of ahtletes being involved and many non athletes.
Don't expect the NCAA to come down very hard on Carolina at east not as hard as they did on Auburn several years ago for academic fraud even though the fraud existed at Carolina loner and involved more students and athletes.

Wheels are all in motion. NCAA found/UNC self-reported additional violations a few months ago, so it's pushed final resolution out a few more months. I gather the NCAA now plan to impose sanctions around May (aka after the NCAA tourney).

So conveniently timed to allow their football team to have a very successful year and the basketball team to have one last shot at a title before the recruiting issues start to catch up.
