Here is what I am choosing to believe.

I believe that Byrne thought he had everything battened down with Petersen. He thought everyone "in the know" would keep their mouths shut. Something happened with Petersen and somehow things got leaked. Hell, there were sources all over the place last week. After the **** hit the fan with Petersen he went mum on this to everyone except those that had to know. This would explain the lack of leaks this week.

Byrne now has one or two guys with multiple interviews. He may like both equally or one more than the other and has them telling him what type of staff they will put together, etc. Meanwhile, Byrne is prodding his first choice with everything he has got. I refuse to believe that Wilson and/or Mullen are stringing us along with demands. I also refuse to believe that we have offered them a blank $2 mill. If anything, their package may be worth $2 mill after incentives.

Yesterday I said I was unplugging my internet connection, but my damn wireless connection still picked up. Today, I am leaving the office. Damn you MSU coaching search...damn you to hell.

And furthermore, for whatever reason, I think Byrne thought he had Peterson in the bag from the get-go. He had a Plan B, C, D, E, etc. list, but I truly believe he thought he was going to go right out and land Peterson. I think that big, fat rejection was a bitter pill.

The first mention of CP since last friday that didn't make me want to throw up. Not that I wish death upon kittens.

furthermore why would that kill a deal? Leaks ALWAYS happen especially in the SEC and while it may be irritating why would CP back out?

I would say that he may have come close to taking the job and Byrne and others probably thought they had him. CP may have felt compelled by the leaks to address it and eventually turned it down. he may have even still been mulling it over at that point. Regardless, no way leaks killed a done deal.
