I wondered the same thing. If the player actually paid for the car, and just got a better deal than the NCAA thought he should have, that seems pretty strange, since there is so much variety in car prices. I guess it's the fact that a booster helped him get the car and had so much contact with him and that our coach didn't report it that's the problem.

Also, what is it with our players and cars? First Kevin Fant with tires and now Will Redmond with a car.

I'm gonna say the biggest infraction in all this is the NCAA found out a coach was lying to the NCAA. The NCAA hates that.

We need a better approach. Let's start with replacing Bracky Brett with a lawyer.

No, it's not.

"Probation" just means you are under increased scrutiny. Probably a little more scrutiny over your program and some additional reporting requirements. The big negative to "probation" is that if you get caught doing nefarious activities within a probationary period, the consequences are far greater than they would be otherwise.

Is the probation an automatic bowl ban or not?

The worst part of actual sanctions is we get to bring recruits to Bama and egg bowl (on thanksgiving). No LSU or Ky.

Yep, NCAA say "best not get caught again, or we unzip..."

Given our documented history of being turrable at cheating, probation sucks....

NOT

Additionally, a former assistant football coach was cited for unethical conduct for failing to report the booster’s activities when he became aware of them and providing false information during his first two interviews with the NCAA.

So we basically got in trouble for one of our alumni selling a car for a really good deal?

The NCAA did not ask for a car fax. If they had they would have seen that the car was in a minor accident two years ago and that was the reason the price was reduced.**

Except it never should have gotten far enough for us to self-impose. This is the kind of stuff other programs are doing for mediocre recruits. In the current "anything goes because it has to go through Slive" world we live in, this is ******** and it's the Athletic Department's fault.

Every probation is essentially a 5-year probation....

If you get caught again within 5-years of a sanction, then you can be placed in 'repeat offender' status, and get a tougher punishment (up to the 'death penalty'). So finishing a 2-year probation in 2015 doesn't really mean anything, although we would get double-triple-slammed if we got caught before then.

With our last probation, even though we didn't get a TV ban, the SEC held out two years of our conference TV money ($4 million), and then we earned 1 year of it back by staying clean. So we got a $2 million check at the end of the 4-year official probation.

That would be SO much more money now that I can't see the SEC doing that again. Plus, they haven't done it to the other SEC schools.

Yep - they added 3 things.

  • Public reprimand and censure.
  • Two years of probation from June 7, 2013 through June 6, 2015.
  • A one-year show-cause order for the former assistant coach, which prevents him from recruiting activities and booster interaction. The public report contains further details.

Well, Items 1 and 3 were givens, and we had suggested one year probations, so essentially the NCAA added a second year probation.

You are so full of ****.

not. Don't flatter yourself.

First you make up the **** about the car salesman being an OM guy and now we are supposed to believe that it wasn't OM that the booster didn't want Redmond visiting?

During one such conversation, in
July 2011, prospect 1 mentioned to the representative that he and his sister were going to
take an unofficial visit to the institution but did not have a car to drive. The
representative responded that he "knew a guy who owns a car shop" and provided him a
phone number of a friend of the representative ("representative's friend"). The
representative's friend is also an alumnus of the institution and owns an automobile
dealership. When prospect 1 phoned him, the representative's friend agreed to provide
prospect 1 with a vehicle to drive to campus for the visit. The distance between prospect
1's hometown and the institution is approximately 175 miles. Prospect 1 stated that he
provided "$50 to $60" to the representative's friend for the use of the vehicle.

What was the name of the dealership or is that privy information?

Why would he know? His info about the dealer was wrong. He is obviously pretending to know more than he does.

One can't be an alumni of one school and fan of another? I know several OM fans that graduated from State

Sure, but if your coach/booster directed your recruit to an OM fan for the car, then your coach/booster is even dumber than I thought.

Coach66 needs to just be honest for once. He has no idea who the car salesman is. He tried to imply that it was an OM graduate and then back tracked once I provided the link that says the guy is a MSU guy.

When did the NCAA get in the business of appraising cars? I'm calling ******** on that.

Probably just before you got into the freelance NCAA investigating business.

How is you investigation coming along anyway?

Surely you and your friend (from the message board that can't seem to stay up) have the nuclear arms that your coaches sent Chris Jones to OM to gather by now.

car are the same person. Dig a little bit more.

Oh well, we can't all be Ole Miss...

Question: What is it called at Ole Miss when a university booster makes recruiting contact with a top football prospect and provides impermissible benefits?

Answer: Business as usual.

Or should I say, NCAA-sanctioned business as usual.

Believe me, many of us wish that message board would stay up...

...shitheads like you would last all of 5 seconds on that board.

And for reasons unfathomable, nobody is "investigating" your football program.

If they did, you would get the death penalty.

I think the problem is that they know that a dealer paid $8k for it, transferred it to another dealer for $5k, and the guilty dealer sold it for $3450.

On January 6, 2012, the representative and hisfriend provided an automobile to prospect
1, through prospect 1's mother, for a price approximately $2,000 below the actual value
of the vehicle. The vehicle was originally purchased by an automobile sales business run
by the representative's friend's uncle for $8,000 on December 6, 2011. The initial buyer
then transferred ownership of the vehicle to the representative's friend's dealership for
$5,000 before the representative's friend subsequently transferred the vehicle again, this
time to the dealership from which prospect 1's mother made the purchase on January 6,
2012. Department of Motor Vehicle records show that she paid $3,450 for the vehicle on
that date. The institution had the vehicle appraised during the investigation and found it
to be worth approximately $5,500.

Bearhunter knows everything already...don'tcha know??

I think the difference is that I don't claim to know anything other than what is in the report.

I'm sorry that I called ******** on your friend. If he had just read the whole infractions report, he would have known not to repeat that an OM guy was the car seller when the report said the guy was a MSU guy.

Speaking of people knowing everything, where is that police report you told us about?

You know all about that, right? Here is what I know about that situation...you were partially correct, but your story was sensationalized before it was posted.

What the 17 are you talking about? Police report I told you about? You must be confused...or maybe you have reading comprehension problems. But feel free to link to me talking abut a police report and me claiming to "know all about that". And who "sensationalized" the story, which wasn't "my" story? I just passed it along. But you can feel free to fill us in on the details since you have them.

And how is DeShea? Still spotting him?

I think the difference is that I don't claim to know anything other than what is in the report.

Deshea Townsend's decision to accept a job at MSU disagrees with this post.

You must have forgotten about claiming knowledge about your workout buddy, DT's coaching decision, huh?

IPD is 100% correct. If it wasn't for retarded 17ers like you being able to post continuously over here, there wouldn't be another board more than likely.
