Here's a beef I have with our fans

OK, at the beginning of the year, we sold a lot of season tickets and have done a lot better and pretty well with attendance aside from the Alcorn game.

So, we go on and win the games we're supposed to, get a nice win over Georgia, and then later on of course we beat Florida- for those of you stuck in Germany.

Alright, now tickets were hard to come by, but attainable before the Florida win, but now that we've beaten Florida EVERYONE wants to go to the UAB game.

That's not a bad thing at all, or my complaint. My complaint is our fans should want to do that for EVERY game from the start of the year. I kind of get the impression from some people that their strategy was to "wait and see" if the team was good, and if they were, go to the games, and if not, they wouldn't show up. I think that's kind of crappy. Show up at the beginning of the year.

You have people now that are plastering their tickets on stub hub for 150 to 200 bucks a game looking to make a profit. How about selling them reasonably to folks that would like to go instead of asking 150 bucks a ticket and then having that empty seat in the stadium when the game rolls around.

Since that has not happened but once (LSU) game the bandwagon is growing. No ranking since 2001 will do that to a program.

If you are an average fan that wants to see a few games, you are out of luck unless you want to pay $50-100 a ticket: look at the attendance and it is 3500.

My major gripe with State fans is that all I hear is talk. We talk about upgrades to the facilities, we talk about championship teams, and yet we have 15000 empty seats at the Alcorn game. We talk about getting to the next level, yet can't get folks to join the Bulldog Club for $100. This next few years will define us in all major sports, and if all we do is talk and not donate, we will always be a bottom level SEC team.

Actually had someone tell me exactly this today. That now that they knew we were good they would go to a game. Didn't know what to say. Maybe whether or not we're good was (and still is for some) debatable, but **** we are definitely watchable. You'd think after the last decade that that would be enough.

to some degree... when Dubose was at Bama, you could get a decent seat for a "good" game for 50 smacks...

now, you'll get in a line of 15,000 people and wait several yearsto pay 2 GRRRR for the right to purchase the same ticket....

while there are exceptions like S Carolina and UK, it happens most everywhere else...

is willing to pay twice what he`s paying for his seats just because we`ve started winning. It just elementary supply and demand.

if everyone was willing to sell tickets for face value, more people would play the wait and see game that the OP worries about. Selling tickets at a higher price is a good way to discourage the bandwagon fans and increase season ticket sales.

First of all, you are one of the good guys here. I respect what you write.

Having gotten that out of the way, let's go back to thefirst of the year. At that time, we werea wait and see team. We still are to some extent. Folks have come around though and ticket sales and attendance will be better next year. They are talking expansion now. Things are going at a pretty good pace.

Enjoy it bro, I am and will continue to do so. Lots of others are the same

Still getting used to having a decent team that will be in the games they should and still win some of those you hope you can win.

Give'em just a bit of slack.

I thought we were having sell outs from the beginning of the season. Better attendance than we have ever had. True, there are some more coming out of the closet looking for tickets. But anyone have a stat to how many more? Seems pretty normal to me for winning to shake out the final few that have not been going.

I enjoy your post but having a complaint against our fans is wrong. There are way to many reasons to be a good or bad fan. The economy, travel or distance, causal fans as you mentioned, TV games, winning and way to many more to list. Most fans don't have your passion and you shouldn't expect them to have the same feeling.
I just don't get "way I hate our fans" when over my lifetime we have some of the most loyal fans in the SEC which we have encountered many losing seasons but now we have new life on building something special and the fans have been great. Give them a break as one day you could have a change of heart or passion to Msu athletics.

than ours will see downsides in attendence when they're not doing well..

the MSU football program has not YET given the fanbase anything that would build a "foundation" type fanbase that would guarantee no empty seats for an Alcorn game...

I was watching the UGA/UV game sat and couldn't believe all the empty seats there ..... a program that has brought the fans a nat title. sec titles and big bowl wins in recent memory... so they slip up and all of a sudden you get empty seats for a conference game...

I would say fans that don't show for LSU (pre-saban days), Bamer(dubose days) and UGA (current) are a lot worse than those MSU fans that didn't show up for the alcorn game...

it's just human nature.... winning puts butts in the house... you give the MSU fanbase a couple of back to back big bowl wins like ole miss had and I bet our fanbase will react much better than theirs and most others

relax francis......remember 2 years ago at this time when crooms was our head coach? now that was something to ***** and raise hell about. enjoy what we are doing and be happy our program is headed in the right direction. dont be one of those people that just needs something to gripe about when things are good. those same people that wait and see will get shut out of getting to go to games (by their own choice of waiting to see) or be forced to buy higher than face value tickets from people like me who can only go to 1 home game a year but buy 4 season tickets. its their loss. let em pay.

I guess some people aren'thappy unless they have something to complain about. But you are really reaching onthis one. We have sold out for the last year and packed most of those games even though we haven't had but one winning seasonin a decade. And we do this in a town that isabout half the size of our stadium and there aren't enough hotel rooms to stay in to support 60,000. The fact that people complain about our fans is absurd.

this is how sports fans are in general. You rarely see bad teams packing the places out, and usually good teams are filling up their stadiums/arenas. It is kind of mind boggling to me that you are making this a MSU thing

through the years it`s a wonder we can`t fit everybody in some portable bleachers from the Starkville Park and Recreation department. Dr. Z got it, Foglesong`s crazy *** got itand I hope the folks in place now get it. Mississippi Statehas a damn good and very loyal corefan base that has lived on crumbs for generations and given areason will swell to numbers nobody believed possible but it has to startwith the administration "getting it".

...most people interested in State athletics do not consider MSU sports a religious cult like you do.

Hence they wait & see if there is actually a reason to spend time & money getting to Starkville, instead of going to Starkville every Saturday due nothing more than blind loyalty, & due to having priorities out of whack.

Other than that, thanks for the 1999 era genespage post concerning an inconsiderate fanbase. It filled me with nostalgia reading it.

What a strange approach. People actually waiting to see how good a product is going to be before they buy it. Groundbreaking if you ask me.

Hell I'm as free market as the next guy. But ****.... if I'm not going, I hand mine over to folks that don't dress like empty seats. On the flip side of keeping out the bandwagon fans out like someone has already said, what if you give it to someone that hasn't been in a while and then they decide they want to buy season tickets next year?

we're not a bad team. It's not like we were coming off of Tech and 10. We won the Egg Bowl last year, and we gained a lot of momentum from that, and were literally inches from a bowl game. The improvement should have been obvious. It takes beating Florida for people to want to all of a sudden come out to a game?

Seriously, who gives a ****? I would venture that most people on this board buy tickets and make it to all/as many games as possible. At the same time, I'm certainly not going to turn my nose up at any bandwagon fans that are ready to hop on board at this point. The more the merrier.

largest crowd in MSU history for the FIRST game of the season against Memphis. I usually really enjoy Todd's posts, but I don't really "get" this one. I have been to every home game this yearand it has been packed every time with the exception of the Alcorn game. This is why I think that we should open every year with a SWAC team if they are going to be on the schedule anyway. Everyone is always pumped for opening day regardless of the opponent.
