Here's a good morning rumor - 2011 scheduling

We have seven home games on tap for every year up to '17, except for '11, when we will play two C-USA teams on the road (Memphis, UAB, Houston - maybe someone can confirm which two it will be.)

Anyway, I spoke to someone who knows a little bit about goings on at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson. Says that there is a private group trying to buy one of those road games to be played in Jackson. It happened in Nashville a few years back, a group paid Wyoming $1MM for their scheduled home game with Tennessee and they played at LP Field. Tennessee was the road team, wore road jerseys and everything - but the stadium was sold out and 99 percent orange. And of course, that bastard LT sold our home game with Florida to Orlando back in the day.

The private group would pay the "guarantee" (lets just say $1MM to Houston to make it easy). The group would sell tickets (presumably $50 x 60,000 = $3MM), group would gross $2MM profit and out of that have to pay the stadium commission ($5/ticket = $300,000) and their marketing costs (lets say another $300k) - net profit of $1.4 MM - not bad.

Source also says that they are looking at buying an Ole Miss away game as well. I can't say I am against playing a road game in Jackson under these circumstances.

I was at MSU way back, attending on the poverty plan. Almost all of our home games were played in Jackson. I know the chase of the dollar has to be played out, but it was terrible for those of us who would have had to hitchhike to the game and then sleep on the floor of someone else's hotel room. Let's keep the students in mind as much as we can.

...Nonconf home games against TBD I-AA and TBD I-A.

Can't see Memphis selling out, but UAB might.

I would like it as a Jackson native, and I think it's good publicity for the school as far as the HS kids in the area. But at the same time, it is the Vet. I actually kind of hope that Byrne is in on the deal and forces them to make sure that there is more than one gate open a la Saints/Colts. They also need to have shuttles and things like that. Part of the problem is UMC doesn't allow parking on gameday. If they could somehow get UMC in on the deal- like give them money for parking and donate it to the hospital, it would help a little bit. The parking and traffic flow kill gamedays at the Vet. It also means that the JPD will be involved, and they suck at everything.

I've actually had the thought that it would be good for us to play a game in Jackson just to remember why we don't.

However, Birmingham is not bad either, except for Legion Field, not that the Vet is much better. MTSU would have been a great candidate for this type of game.

We'd get as much as we would get by playing Houston or whoever in a true road game.

If they made this deal with USM and Houston they could sell out Jackson Prep Stadium. Just joking! I think that game would sell out. I hope they let us park at Trustmart Park and ride buses to the game. Farm Bureau and State Farm might take a beating if not.

Anything that brings anyone into the city proper, I'm all about. Lord knows Jackson needs all the help it can get.

that the shuttles would go out of Smith-Wrigley.

If it were me, I'd have shuttles going out of the Fairgrounds. Much more parking. Assuming this game isn't in the first two weeks of October, of course.

I know that LA-Monroe set up a deal with Arkansas to play at War Memorial as a ULM home game. It allowed ULM to increase their attendance numbers to present to the NCAA to keep Div. 1 status. UAB could be in a similar situation.

Also, even without the NCAA attendance requirements for stay in I-A, UAB would be a much cheaper game to buy than Memphis would. Memphis would easily sell 40,000+ tickets for a game against MSU, UAB would struggle to sell 25,000. With a delta of 15,000 tickets at say $40 each, Memphis would expect to gross at least $600,000 (before parking, concessions, etc.) more than UAB for a true home game.

or something like that. I guess nothing ever came of it, but as long as it's not a home game, I think it's a good idea. Jackson would be my last choice of cities however.

and I simply have zero desire to spend a weekend in Jackson. I would rather go to an away game. Though I understand my personal travel preferences don't mean much in the scheme of a football program.

or something like that. Play in a stadium in between. You also aren't going to get any decent team to play in Jackson. But if we're buying out some scrub, I'd rather do it in New Orleans, or something like that.

It makes it that much harder for schools without unlimited budgets to consistently get 7 home games per season. Give me a home game against a scrub over a neutral game in Atlanta against a decent team any day. As for buying out road games with scrubs, good luck finding anyone in New Orleans to take on that buyout. As I said earlier, the only place that game is ever going to happen is Jackson, or possibly Memphis.

I don't think it really matters. It would be an away game in jackson. I would rather go to jackson to see us play in our territory than go to Memphis or Bham in an equally ****** stadium. Money does not matter to me that much,

Money does matter to me personally. I just meant that I would not mind if we paid a pretty penny to get an away game moved to Jackson. First of all, Jackson is OUR capitol city and anything we can do to help that city would be great for the entire state. Losing Ole Miss and State football games in Jackson was the first step to making Jackson a ********. That area around the stadium (Fondren, State Street) could benefit from getting SEC fans back in the area.

Im just saying, it could not hurt to spend extra money to get an away game moved to our struggling capitol city. You see now?

So as a student you thought it was "terrible" to sleep on the floor? It was like clockwork to me and my friends.

Also I don't think you understand that this is not taking the place of a home game. Students would much rather hitchhike to Jackson than hitchhike to Birmingham or Houston.
